This game will scare you....

I've also played this game on the PS2. This is the better version. It has better graphics, more content, more extras, and better controls. It's the prefered version of the game. Nuff said there. Silent Hill 2 has nothing to do with the first Silent Hill. Infact, what makes it a Silent Hill game is the title and the fact that it takes place in Silent Hill (something that later games will get id of). The man player is a man again. This time you are looking for your dead wife. She sent you a letter in the mail to meet her in your special place. As the game progresses you meet up with what could be called her twin along the way with a very simular name. This character is far more sexual and much more aggressive and distured as your dead wife. You will also meet up with other minor players along the way. A child, a kind of retarted guy, a woman looking for her mother and so on and so forth. The story is tightly written and is well acted and captured through game play and cinema scenes. The game has a creep feeling through out and not only uses shock value to keep you on your toes but also random jump scenes. The graphics are some of the better from this particular era of gaming. They are detailed and use lighting and shadowing well. They also are well animated. They set the atmosphere that is Silent Hill
The controls are a bit clunky. They aren't well mapped and there is some lag time. Also having to go menu to menu can get annoying and break up the action. The sounds, voices, and music are what really make this game. Much like Eternal Darkness, Silent Hill 2 paints a scary picture when you just close your eyes and listen to it. If there was a sound track I would buy. Silent Hill 2 borrows from Alone in the Dark, Resident Evil, Eternal Darkness and other such good horror games, but it also paves the way for new things and original ideas. Where Resident Evil may have taken a "B movie" look at horror games, Silent Hill 2 ups the ante and make it a grade A scare fest. A side not, this is probably the best Silent Hill out the the 4 that are out on major consoles at this time. If you are going to play one of the I suggest this one be it. Silent Hill 3 is a direct sequel to Silent Hill, but Silent Hill 4 isn't. They are both good game, but this one is arguabley the best. So turn off the light and boot up your X Box ad midnight, cause your in for some terror!
