I just played a bit of the demo. Sid Meier's Railroads offers small changes and differences from Railroad Tycoon 3. There seems to be more industry animations. (example: log camp is shown cutting down a tree, the log rolls out of the camp and is then swooped up by a crane and placed on a flat bed train car for transport to a paper mill.) However, the industry itself seems disconnected from the game world. (example: taking the example from above... The log camp cuts down the tree, but the single tree magically appears just before being cut down. The tree isn't taken from a forest nor does the map show a forest in the area. It just magically appears.) It seems that Railroads is like playing a table top train set combined with a business simulation board game. From my limited experience with the game, I would say that YES there are differences between the two games. (Primarily Graphical) Are these differences enough to make the purchase worthwhile?... NO if you already own Railroads Tycoon 3. I found myself wishing that Railroads Tycoon 3 would have done a few things that Railroads offered and vice versa. However, none that would make me abandon one or purchase the other.
Overall rating is around an 7.5 or so.. fun but a whole lot of been there done that. A shame really since Feraxis knew going into this that Railroads Tycoon 3 was in the market place already. Common sense dictates that you improve existing content in the marketplace. You don't simply duplicate it.
