I didnt think that I would enjoy Civ, but I was wrong. This expansion seems pretty cool, but I do not think I will be getting this right away, I am still getting in and learning without new additions. Fun game though.

Find out how the faithful are rewarded in this video review for Sid Meier's Civilization V: Gods & Kings.
I was considering getting this from GMG for $3 today, but it looks like it's nothing more than extra complexity and even more nations/city-states (as if dozens weren't enough already). If I do get back into it, It won't have cost me another $3 XD
tricky tricky steam. I love my free copy of civ 5, but now i feel i need to buy this expansion. thats how they get yeah.
@Epicurus-Reborn Exactly. When I saw this and all of the DLC was on sale today, I realized why Steam and Firaxis were able to just give Civ 5 away. IT was all a scam.
Unfortunately, Gods & Kings is pretty much a necessary purchase since Civ V isn't really worth playing without it. Fortunately, Civ V with Gods & Kings is incredibly awesome and well worth the money, especailly if you can get it at a discount (thank you, Steam sale!).
Review Video said this is the first "full on" expansion. Does that mean it's a stand alone expansion, or do we need to have Civ V? I ask bc i'm trying to get a friend to play who is interested and he doesn't have Civ V.
@Tiesto05 There are quite a few DLC packs that contain new civilizations but are minor expansion packs compared to this one.
Somebody talk to me, Total war vs CIV, i know their different combat wise, but how bout immersivness, cutscenes, and all that jazz? bout equal? i love total war, but havent plunged into CIV yet....wife beware ive heard its addicting
@Frosty3223 Played Total War and Civ.
They are both awasome games, but my all time fav is Total War.
Never played the Civ games before but am quite fond of a lot old RTS games.
I'm sure getting Civ V first would be something to look in to, though I do see what people are saying, about Gamespot promoting rather than Reviewing games these days. Maybe I'm just getting old, but even in other GS reviews they show you what you get in the game, and not how it is to actually play the game for more than 5 min?
Played them all..Liked Civ II to IV.best was Alpha Centauri for me...followed by Civ IV..
to: aamir69.. --> Diablo is no rpg..it's action game with a basic story..barely rpg...
wish they would remake Alpha Centauri for today's cpu/OS ! and Yes it s important to have your people Happy! :) Go Civ.... or not... !
Does the exact same thing as Civ 5 but slightly better. 9.0 review.
Amazing Spiderman does a bunch of different stuff with an actual story and funny jokes. 7.5 review.
Gamespot: Putting the ass in bias one review at a time.
@EpycWyn you're not being fair spiderman was a full game and this is an expansion. there are different expectations for both. as an expansion, gods and kings did what it was supposed to do: improve on the original game and introduce a few new features. as a game, spiderman was a good one, but nothing more.
@EpycWyn Although fun, spiderman doesn't have the depth or complexity seen in Civ 5. Don't take these reviews so personally either, they are just meant as guidelines.
first thing is first they should FIXC the DX 10 /11 bugg instead of trying to make money .....
what DX10/11 bug? I play with DX10 mode on this game on my geforce 9800gt and it runs fine. What bug are you talking about?
when i start DX 9 it works fine. when i start DX 10/11 with my GTX 560 SLI, just aftyer i start it up it says "it stoped working"
Goddamn it annoys me so much how it cycles automatically to the next video- I typed out a long comment, it switched videos, and I lost it. Great.
@Tokugawa77 yes! ive been saying this for so long. They need to stop auto cycling.

How can you compare Warcraft 3 with CIV? They are two completely different genres. Warcraft is a "REAL time Strategy" game, (RTS). CIV is a TURN based strategy game. BIG BIG BIG difference and civ is about 1000x more complicated with options and depth than warcraft 3 will ever be. The fact that you are comparing playing warcraft 3 (modded or not) to civ is just wrong.
First off have you played the CIV 5 expansion? If you haven't than you really can't say anything. I am double digits into the expansion and it adds a lot. IT makes civ5 more advanced than civ4 now, and that is a good thing.
As far as GS being bias, well I will agree with you there, but its mainly for console games which give a lot of marketing money like COD which will never score under 9..no matter how shotty. If you want to talk about GS being bias, go lookup up the gravity rush, ifamous 2, ratchet and clank: tod, and skyward sword reviews here and then compare them to metacritic and you can see who doesn't pay them money for advertising...
@Midnightshade29 ''Two completly diffrent genres'' - Go lookup some custom games, you know? the maps that keep WC3 running? even today? with a dying community granted, but its still there. Once you see it, and you see how similar the mechanics are compared to the current Civ games - you'll get my point. I think its disgraceful to give a 9/10 to a game with the same basic mechanics as a 10 year old customized map
Dont get me wrong, im not saying the WC3 map is even close to comparison in quality, im saying the Civ games have NOTHING that couldnt be created with enough triggers in WC3 - Do i say the Civ games are unoriginal? no. are they badly made? no. But my point is that they are NO WHERE CLOSE to the score off 9/10 that they were given - 6-7 i could accept, but saying its close to revolutionary? Thats like saying COD revolutionizes the FPS genre (God im gonna get flak for that one) but i hope you see my point
@Aleksfox Claiming that you can recreate a Civilization game in WarCraft 3 using triggers is absurd. The Civ games are extremely complex and far beyond anything you could create using the WarCraft 3 map editor.
@Midnightshade29 Also for the record - This is only gonna be here for a second, half my comments that are anti-gamespot are beeing deleted - Haha! good job Gamespot, dont take criticism
@Nick_Fury_Shine No i do know, i'm just trying to avoid the rage of the obvious fanboys that are on this site
awsome game and Gods and Kings adds a lot of depth, really fun that you can name your religion too :P
@SukhpreetCyrus It's on steam. 23 bucks. You need to have Civilization installed though.
Yessss! I love the civ. franchise. Can't wait to download the new expansion. What a great great game!
such a baaaaad baaad game got an expansion...great.... and got a 9.0 ...oh well its gamespot the shitty bastards that dont know how to rate games and that are FOR the original mass effect ending ...so its ok
@HamonXY That is probably the stupidest thing that I've ever heard, the Civilization franchise is among the best to ever be made so I really do have no idea how you can think otherwise. Go play COD. and as for this expansion pack, I think that it looks awesome and I can't wait to play it.
well....@adam1808 u must be a real experienced gamer cause i didnt understand anything ;P (no rudeness my english is weak) and all the other guys that commented on this post - whatever u say to this guy he wont change his mind so i suggest to not reply and waste energy cause this guy is kinda KRAZY.
@24714733 Will Wright was the mastermind behind the SimCity series, as well as other games like SimGolf and more recently Spore. Maxis was his starring vehicle of a development studio, although they seem to be doing great things with the upcoming Simcity. Firaxis (Civ) and Maxis are as good as it gets for turn-based strategy and simulation-style games, even if Maxis hasn't done anything decent since Spore.

@24714733 yeah exactl its a different game its soccer, soccer sucks in real life if you ask me ;but you see what adam said is that the game isnt sophisticated so if you ask him fifa isnt even close to civ 5 ( tbh i think so 2 but thats a different story )
@HamonXY well....i like fifa 12 and it dosent have a story or combat so just stop typing bullshit!
@adam1808 sure it is mate but so they said for the mass effect 3 ending when players wanted a fucking change its "art" and shouldn't be changed bullshit you just said the same thing. and for you information no matter how sophisticated the system of the game is or how much "knowlage " you get in a game doesnt matter when i dont like about the game is the battle system the tech tree advancment and the units .assassins creed gives insight on the renesanse era but does ithats not what the people like in the game its the combat and the story if oyu want to learn something go back to school or read a book tyvm and im sorry if i made you made my friend i just gave my opinion and btw gj on the serious reply and no im not going to capitalise it cuz its not needed in my eyes its just a chat online if i would write it on paper yes but not online or for something unofficial
@HamonXY Replies, capitalise your I's and Civ is one of the most revolutionary series in gaming, incorporating some of the most sophisticated simulation systems ever seen in gaming and it's almost as influential as the work that Will Wright did with Maxis. There is your argument, please stop writing things on the internet until you know what you're talking about or can provide a reasoned argument.
@HamonXY the reason you dont get serious replies is because you sound like a 7 year old troll.
@Minasodrom @HamonXY as said to adam1808 real smart all you can do is call people with outher opinons something ( doesnt matter what ) how about you tell me what you like about the game ? or something explain to me what you like about the game :D too much for your brain to handle? ... ok nvm then have a nice day and a nice life .
@HamonXY Funny how the vast majority of us over in civfanatics love Gods & Kings, so Firaxis did what they were supposed to do: produce an expansion that the fans of Civ5 wanted, sure if you don't like Civ5 years after it's relase even with all the patches and mods that have been released in that timespan then you're not going to find anything to like in G&K, but for people who do enjoy Civ5 this is a great expansion.
@michaelsen444 i feel sad when i see you being the only one that can do a normal reply and tell me how he/she feels about the game other people only have the brainpower of a mouse and can only reply stupid ass shit and honestly i did try the game and i just didnt like it at all just not my type of game. Anyway you at least did what i wanted ( gave me a reply about the game ...not about me ... you have my respect )
