sorry for a possibly stupid question.
I just downloaded the PS3 demo of this game and i loved it so I bought the PC version. Can you create armies? and if so, how?

I played it on 360 and I loved the festure of making armies, but sadly, you cannot form them in Civ4. sorry

first you need to research the tech, then build the appropriate unit. and you need the resources to build the unit if necessary. you should also know the strong and weak points of each unit.

I must be misunderstanding something here...???? Of course you can build armies in Civ4, that's one of the main points of the game. Without a good army your neighbours will invade you and the game is over. In addition to cyberknight's comment, make sure you understand which units get bonuses when attacking other units and which gets bonuses when being attacked. E.g. elefants are good for attacking horses, and axemen are good for attacking swordsmen... etc...

I think he means can you take three units and group them together to form an 'army' like in the demo. So far I'm not too sure (I just recently got this game) but if you hold ctrl on a group of units that are in the same panel they seem to move together. I'm not sure if this boosts their attack in battle though like the demo.

I see... sorry for the mixup.
Anyway, they don't get added strength by grouping them but combat is quicker since the computer automatically matches your best unit against the defenders best unit. Save you having to do a lot of combat clicking. Then again, it is often good to save your super unit for later in the combat since you don't want to lose them in the opening fight, so don't leave it to the computer all the time. It's actually best for defensive purposes. Click ALT and you can also group different units. Or just use the buttons in the interface.

Yeah I meant pressing Y to form them not just building up units. Sorry I should have been more clear.
