One of the better Turn-Based Strategy games out there.

Many people say this game is crappy compared to the new batch of Turn Based games coming up. I disagree. Shattered Union brought me into the genre, and CivIII kept me in. It is sometimes boring, yes. It is pretty bad-looking, yes. It is fun, though, and you can keep going for many, many hours if you'd like to.

It is surprisingly bug-free, unlike many other Strategy games, but some aspects are just strange. Why can't I play for more than 1000 turns? Why can't I look at my city while using a pre-made map? Why is it that there aren't more civilizations, like the Bulgarians or Romanians? Why is there only one unique unit for every Civ?

Then there's the worst. Why are my Elite Armor units being slaughtered by some puny veteral Spearman? How can my battleships be crushed by Galleons? Now to the good stuff: The technologies are well-built, and though some wonders don't appear on the map, the ones that do just look cool. While the CiViclopedia isn't too helpful, it has most of the stuff you need.

The sounds are very repetitive. The music isn't the best, the sounds that you hear over and over are mostly grunts and badly recorded motors. The 3D visuals look very prehistorical. Literally. Even the sprites that are large, in the CiViclopedia, look very ugly, with most units faceless.

While its problems outweigh it's good sides, it still delivers beautifully, and keeps me playing.
