Danny details how you can help Double Fine bring back adventure games, and we take a look at the divided public opinion surrounding the PlayStation Vita.
If I had disposable income I would donate to Psychonauts 2.
I've had the Vita for about a week now and love it! I think they need to drop the pricing on some of the games though. Other than game pricing the display is fantastic, Graphics are great, the controls are great, the touch screen functions are very responsive. Uncharted is a lot of fun but I've spent a lot more time with Escape Plan which is one of the more interesting games I have. I didn't really like the Little Deviants as this is geared more to the under 10 crowd. Remote Play needs to be up and running as soon as possible and with as many games as possible and this thing combined with the PS3 will be untouchable.
The thing needs an HDMI output bad. Then I'd probably buy one.
If I pick up a Vita its after a few titles have come out and the price drops a bit.
@itchyflop :) I prefer my Credit account to do the funding part:) I guess we can call ourselves share holders even if the company doesn't call us 'coz we'rnt a part of the company but we are the share holders for that game we put our money in:) I like THQ, but it's not my first one, I like Sony, Capcom and Square Enix equally along with 4A, EA and all other companies in the second place. If any company call in for funds, I'm always in, And i bet thats the least i could do for my world of gaming:D Right???
@Bhargav_pvs i agree it ill put pressure on developers to make a decent game, im intersted how you think it would make them manufacture a better or more interesting game ??Surely that should happen anyway, how would players fund a company(s) also, would you make a contribution monthly via direct debit? and would that mean we were all shareholders within say a company like THQ (my favorite software company, with bio-ware a close 2ND)...:)
@itchyflop That's k buddy. We are gamers, right. We may have different attitudes, different personalities and different tastes, but in the end we all are gamers;) Thanks for letting me know how u feel, I'm feeling really nice to know u :) Hope we stay this way and enjoy gaming :D
@Bhargav_pvs you know what, you've made a great comment. Nice to find someone i can relate to on here....thanks for the response. :)
It would be a shame if the Vita does end up being the "death rattle" of Sony in the gaming industry (or at least the portable gaming industry), as this would generally leave Nintendo and Microsoft to spike game prices due to having less competition in the market. I'm actually looking forward to the Vita but I wouldn't mind seeing more first person shooters and slightly less one-on-one fighting games.
@itchyflop Nice question buddy? U got a point there. Now just think about it this way, if they fund from their own salaries then imagine how a company would be, Funds from the players will raise the pressure on the company to create a worthy game. As a game developper i believe that the funding from the player will make the company feel better and responsible to make interesting games.
hey whats that guitar solo played at the beginning... can i have any links to it
"Cut yah hair"!! lolz ... but really you should cut your hair at least the sides. ;)
Vita day one for me - can't wait :) Thanks for the update!
Monkey Island FTW!
I'm deff pickin up a vita perfered downloadable game thing anyway
$10,000! wow.
@gorgonaut My version didn't! It was a copied version on Amiga. It took months for 7 year old me to figure it out!
Wow, that's crazy, Escape From Monkey Island was the first game I completed too!! (besides the mario games on NES...). You forgot to mention that it actually came with a full walkthrough booklet ;) !
the main reason I don't buy things like the Vita is simply the price Vs life cycle, its going to cost a bomb and there will more than likely be a 'Vita 3000' or 'Vita s' (s for slim obviously as what handheld (neigh console) doesn't go slim) next year, and they usually chuck a feature in that means all games after will be 'optimised for Vita s' (this has been shown fantastically with the 'better with kinect' tag line)
only negative the Vita has is that price tag,it has good graphics and good games like Uncharted, resistance,LBP,unit 13 and MK coming out on it,if sony drops the price a bit people will flock towards it like a bunch of flies....but sony wont
I hope the giant enemy crab dies! Or at the very least stubs its toe!
vita looks fun but i cant see it going well........ its allready bombing in japan after a couple weeks and the price is a staggering kick in the jewels.
i think the vita will fail until its price comes down, its more expensive than a PS3, i cant really justify that on top of buying over priced memory for it also. Here in the UK i know of many small game retailers that wont be stocking the unit. There point saying, there is no point stocking a unit where many of its games are digital based, which we cant sell. They wont make any money on selling a unit so it will be a loss for them to stock the vita..
Vita isn't even out over here yet. Or has nobody told me that I can buy it yet?.... xD
@DeathMetalPizza yes i agree usually the hand helds are a poor attempt at their bigger brother system, with exception to the gameboy advance some games were actually better on that than the snes. Which brings me nicely to my point, i had a psp and ps2 etc i sold the psp cos it just wasn't well good enough, god of war was pretty cool on it but the polygon shift rate was poor, just wasn't fun at all, you get the point, the vita is handling what seems to be ps3 standard visuals etc..with ease, this is another rare handheld with the right stuff (like the gs advance) and you can have the same experience on the move, not like the psp. I will be buying one :0
@Bhargav_pvs so what about the loyal fans or buyers of the massive companies developing the games, without enthusiastic gamers like you and me they wouldn't have a business. How about the staff contribute some of their wages to fund their jobs ??? or have i misunderstood ?? :)
I have nothing agents Sony but the PS Veta is not for me. I do like The thought that every-time someone has something bad to say about the Veta, a Sony fan boy's head explodes. So: Vita sucks, Vita sucks, Vita sucks, Vita sucks, Vita sucks, Only joking, it rely sucks.
Anything for games.... Funding isn't a bad idea when it comes to games. But the only problem is we expect the game to satisfy us and what if it doesn't?. But i'll go with the funding for good:D
Gamers' helping to fund game development is a good idea. Hopefully there will be some success stories to shore up support so gamers don't flee from the idea as soon as they encounter a dud.
I don't know why so many people are hating the PS Vita. Sure it may not look amazing and completly innovating, but there are sure to be lots of really cool games that will be released with it, and as long as that happens i'll be happy.
Wipeout looks really good. Vita will triumph!
All I can do is watch the success/failure of the Vita, not being a fan of handheld gaming or even phone apps for that matter. I bought myself a game boy color way back when, and i enjoyed it for about a week or so. Then, I went back to my PS1 and never looked back. I just don't see myself paying more for a handheld than I would for a home console.
"Rated M for Matoor..."
Shadowhunter0 your right the game prices actually aren't that bad, for some reason I thought the $50 dollar price point was standard. i went and paid off my first edition bundle today and notice there were games as as low as $30. There is a midnight launch at the Gamestop near me. Cant wait. Probably save up for the 32gb. As long as I have something to save my games on, not to worried about internal memory. I have a good Android phone that has some amazing graphical capabilities, and it still can't touch dedicated gaming handhelds. Atleast on the Vita I wont have to worry about someone calling me in the middle of a boss battle.
I Really hope VITA Pull it off and compete with The others... I Saw the games coming out for VITA and i'm getting one at the end of this year... PLS DUN DESTROY YOURSELF VITA!!!
That whole Vita article was based on the UI experience, and comparing the vita with cell phone gaming. The UI may not be the best, but that's easily made better over time with updates. As for comparing with cell phone gaming, it's a completely different market. Sony have done well (esp. giving the vita dual sticks) to aim this at the more hardcore gamer. There are some great casual and puzzle mobile titles, but the mobile app market is not hardcore. Without a proper controller or at least bluetooth controller support it never will be (have you tried comparing playing GTA on the iPhone with playing on a console?). As I said in my other post, it's kind of like the PS3 vs Wii battle all over again. The Vita will start off slow out the gate, but when more quality games come out over time it'll gain momentum, much like the PS3 did. And hardcore gamers WILL pay $40 for them; you can't compare the depth of something like Angry Birds with the depth of something like Monster Hunter.

I always like the humor in the UK videos/podcasts. This one didn't disappoint.
I think ill go invest in the death rattle instead of the so called philanthropy for historical memorabilia. Off topic - Danny could you please do a blifblafbluff guide on metal gear solid games been a huge fan of the series but still a bit confused about the story. cheers.
Tim Sapeshifter!!!!
Love Sony. But death rattle.
A Psychonauts 2 would be nice, waited forever for a sequel
Why only one $10,000 deal? That makes no sense!
Mark should stick to Angry Birds and his iPhone.
Okay two REALLY important questions linked intrinsically with todays news: 1. Why doesn't Danny got himself one of them there blocky avatars types next to that there 'Start Select' Logo? 2. Did some reclusive GameSpot music sage/savant create the intro music for Start Select, or has it been bequeathed by the gurus of past video game music?
Interesting, I doubt the Vita will fail really. I imagine its life will go somewhat like its predecessor.
@Darius815 the game prices are fine these games are those crappy phone games for example uncharted is the most expensive being at $50 and right now is the only game at that price but it is worth it it is a full fledged uncharted game so pretty much a console experience on a handheld and it is the same with most of them crappy smartphone games are ruining the handheld market and I do agree with you that the prices for the memory cards are high but what can you do and yes it would be awesome if they were half the price and there was internal memory in the vita but there is not and there is nothing we can do about it
Wow a lot of hate for the Vita. mrcharrio the Vita is not terrible, played it actually quite impressed. It also has one of the best launch line ups in years. Ninja Gaiden Sigma, Uncharted, Modnation Racers, Dark Alliance(I love dungeon crawlers), MVC3, and so on. Games across all categories, not to mention remote play and all the other bells and whistles. Don't get me wrong I don't think its perfect, the games are too high and the memory cards are way overpriced. But man that screen..its pretty. Anyway just my opinion, the Vita will do just fine. It may take a price cut, but it will sell just fine. Not sure if it can beat the 3DS, but it doesn't need to.
I already got the early bundle paid off and I'm tired of people saying that the vita sucks when they haven't even played on my friend imported one from Japan and he doesn't regret it and I got to play on it and it is allot of fun and well worth the price diffidently with the best launch line up of game EVER
The Vita is terrible, when the original PSP came out, i bought one right off. The Vita i wouldn't even borrow.
