We end the week with news of Resident Evil 6 coming in November, jungle areas coming to Minecraft, and Johnny on his soapbox to ponder the shortage of new video game ideas.
welcome back Leon
I actually don't mind sequels, even ones that don't change a lot. Some games are well enough that I just want more of it and they are often rather unimproved just for the sake to fill up a list of new stuff. There are only so many ways of reinventing the wheel, from time to time some studio get's it right but you can't expect all of them coming up with new and good ip and game systems all the time. I just care if the game is good, not if it has a number in it's name. Well, all we can do is vote with our dollars and try to get others into good but not yet popular projects.
My hopes for Resi6? It depends. If they turn a 180º from Resi 5 and go back to survival horror, I may build some expectations. If they keep following the path of action game, then I'm done with the franchise.
I'm currently waiting in line for Call of Duty 10!
There should definitely be platformers like 'Adventure Island II' that should be created more.
There's never enough Minecraft.
Go Indie games! You are our last hope! (Jane, you are so cute! But everyone knows that already.)
Nice top Jane.. !! All Resi games look good, even though the theme is always the same and the game play is no different, it's still thrilling to fight your way to survival and uncover a dark deep cultish secret. Hoping the same from Resi 6. We don't really have a problem with sequels as long as they are kept interesting. Good stories are hard to come by.
Excellent feature from Johnny - well considered and entertainingly presented! As a driving game fanatic I was disappointed that things like Blur and Split Second didn't do better but endless DiRT/NFS/GT/Forza/F1 keeps me happy!! Great show as always!! Thank you.
I'm just waiting for The Last of Us. Seems like an original idea, and compelling story.. Besides, we all love NaughtyDog right?
the thing what happens is that the american buyer wants more the same s""t and is afraid of new things
Looks like you can walk and shoot at the same time now! About time!!
I never stared at the Batsignal before. Thanks Jane!
To be fair, in realtion to new IP's, Shadows of the Damned was hugely underrated - i personally really enjoyed its weirdly over the top "adult!!!!!!" sense of humour as opposed to appealing to the 12 year olds that wouldnt know what half the words meant....
fine. looks like I'll have to watch it at midnight now
come on guys, get the show on
Whatever happened to the competitions and prize pile?
Wish it was on now. Need to set off to work at 4:30pm
usually between 3-4pm gmt
When is the new episode on?

Dead Island sucked. Repetative. Laggy. and to easy.
I appreciate Seb, he's my fav. start/select... person. What is that called? Announcer? narrirator?... umm...
LMAO, Leon with the poser anime hair. I hope RE6 will be split-screen again. I do appreciate playing games with my girl, instead of passing the controller. I also hope that I get to shoot Mr.President!

I think Johnny is right, indie developers FTW - the only problem for indies is to compete with the potentially enormous environments that large publishes are able to produce and invest years of development costs into. Indie and innovative tech firms is where the future of gaming is, that is until all the decent creative talent is bought out by big studios, are enslaved and then spend the rest of their sell-out lives churning out mind numbing samey-same-games...
I've always dreamed of a RTS/space combat flight-sim hybrid set in the Homeworld Universe. That cockpit view from HW: Cataclysm always sparked my imagination and made me want to be able to take full control of my fighters etc... It should have a few players working as 'commanders' controlling the mothership and the carriers but using something like the interface in Battlefield 2 - directing the flow of the battle and building units/resource collectors and issueing attack/defend orders and human pilots controlling wings of fighters/larger ships with perhaps AI/human players within their squadron. MAN THAT WOULD BE EPIC!!! Make it so you can board ships and enter FPS shooter mode like SW Battlefront and that would be my ULTIMATE GAME! Stick it on the PS4 with at least 256 players online and my brain would happily melt out my my eye sockets!!!
more red faction fps from thq
dead island looked good but it was just repetitive...
@The1stFishBone i like you r thinking!! i agree tings like 4g being faster and mobile wireless, do you think like kinect its improved the gaming arena or lost the idea of picking up a pad and well playing a computer game..i know the idea of trying to get as close as reality as possible is the main aim of some games like BF3 and i personally welcome it, are computer games meant to be just that??
Homeworld 3
poor stevie, didnt see it coming.......
Even though I agree with video games lacking in creativity at the moment it's still good to see that they're still relevant in today's society. There's still over a hundred gaming publishers and developers out there willing to at least hear about different ideas for games.
In some cases, sequels are shameless cash ins. Others (BioShock Infinite) change enough in the terms of game play, setting, and style to actually warrant the $60 price tag. Ken Levine and the guys over at Irrational Games are doing actual "creating", where as the guys over at EA are taking essentially the same game, slapping a different number on the box and calling it a day.
You Brits... why are your accents so mesmerizing???
Oh cool shirt BTW
Mine Craft Sucks. Jane is banging Guy watch her face when they talk about his pants. =)>
World economy in the cra**er, anything before and after that I didn't get!
yaaaaaay!!! War of donut zombies 3 is coooommin' ! :)
The start of the next console generation will bring about new I.P.s. New technologies make new gameplay styles possible.
Aslong as the sequals are good, who cares if they make 2,5,7 or 50. I can see my great great gandson playing Final Fantasy 100. Its a strong series and its always new ideas with each game making each one fresh, different and intresting.
"Flying squirriel Simulator" lol that made me laugh
Hopefully 'Resident Evil 6' will play like its cousin 'Resident Evil 5.'
The way things are these days it's so easy to tell people to cheer up and stop complaining but there's SO much rubbish around these days it's quite hard for 'em to see the brighter side, re-hashed rubbish everywhere it's hard to get excited, things with 'Call of Zombie Return of Dead Warfare" in the title, p***es me off. Too many sequels but I'm looking forward to GTA V, I don't care if it's got a number in the title, it's not a sequel because Rockstar are just awesome and always make the main character someone new =)
games are getting easier to make with less people and less investment, (mojang, thatgamecompany etc) so i think innovation will lie mainly in the hands of smaller development teams in the future, while the big guns go for the sequels, remakes, premakes, prequels, and sqeakuels
the best moment of this week's show was appearance of Danny:D looking 4ward to play kingdoms of amalur this year, although i think they will have sequels 2. gaming industry is different from other entertainment industries, here sequels work and are expected.a lot of times they succeed unlike movie industry! but u r also right.i'm getting sick of all this FPS sequels.considering how every year we have another CoD,i think our kids will play it 2!!
I like it when my favorite games come out with one or two sequels if they are something a little different, like how Bioshock Infinite looks to be a lot different than the original. I don't like games that feel they have to come out with a "new" one in the series every year...
This not the ECONOMY which is the cause of the problem, it is speculation (a disposable part of the economy in my opinion).
Sadly, I must agree with Johnny's video segment - the big companies are scared witless about losing money, despite them having shedloads of it to spend on new titles. If the smaller indie crews come up with a few new ideas, maybe the big boys will go out on a limb, otherwise 2012 is going to be more of the same. Ugh.
I am still amazed that Mirror's Edge didn't sell so well. It was an incredible game with (at the time) a brand new genre, ie Parkour free-running and great physics and gameplay. If you haven't played it, I would heartily recommend it.
