Martin is by far the funniest gamespot member, I know he isn't part of the video team, but damn he really needs to be in more of these :)

It's GameSpot international team-up week on Random Encounter. First up, Martin and Tom dig up a land-fill and play the Atari 2600 abomination ET.
I don't know what all the fuss is about. The box art is amazing and this game has the ability to bring world peace. I remember playing it many eons ago and it was life changing. While I couldn't soar through the air with my bike and the game had absolutely nothing to do with the movie, it did make my dog very upset when I played it. So much so, the dog would run around in circles chasing it's tail ,which it didn't even have. The technology in this game rivals anything the PS4, Xbox One, or even NVIDIA can create. They know it, they just don't talk about it in fear of being buried in the desert.
omfg where the hell did u dig that thing up
its like the worst GAME in the history of humanity XD
That was funny.
It's so bad that they buried all the stock of E.T. into a landfill in New Mexico! So bad that it crashed the Game Industry! So bad that James Rolfe (Angry Video Game Nerd) is going to release a movie all about E.T, later this year!
Its so bad... IT'S GOOD!?
I played this game; I was 4 years old when it was released. I replayed it today after watching this vid, and it was actually bearable because I could remember what I was supposed to do.
You can still play ET and other (decent) Atari 2600 games online at www.virtualatari.org if you're feeling nostalgic, or want to see what gaming was like back in the day.
@Diluted_NZ cheers buddy, ive got more gaming joy from that site in the last 10 minutes than i have the entire playstation era
Random games and random pairings? That's cool. I've been waiting for James Rolfe a.k.a. the Angry Video Game Nerd to cover this game. He's probably saving it as his magnum opus or maybe it'll make an appearance in his upcoming movie.
How about Random Encounter try Ikaruga for the Dreamcast? Shooter games or more specifically bullet hell games oughta provide some hilarity (or frustration). It's even two players!
I say laugh out loud...other game suggestions are: Metal Slug 6 [2006] and Legend of Hero Tonma [1989].
I was not even born when this came out, lucky for me I was born just around the time when Super Mario Bros was being made by Nintendo and released in Japan around 85, and a few years after that when it arrived in PAL countries I was around 3 years of age so I could play it even though I sucked at first.
Okay...to be fair, ET could fly, they do it at the end of the movie on the bicycles. They fly over all the Feds. Other than that....yeah....This game was utter crap in every sense of the word.
@Raggar127 @MXVIII Well I was born in the age of Nintendo, so thankfully, I grew up with a much better experience, I did however have the....displeasure of playing this title, on my aunts old Atari once.
These two together are hilarious. In the days before E3 I hope to see more combos of people from different sides of the pond.
ah yes, the good old days where broken games were sent to garbage dumps. not coddled and excused....... and called sim city.
Spielberg should team up with Microsoft and release E.T. Anniversary remake.
@BrutalPandaX2 Omen everywhere. First Spielberg at the MS conference disaster and now they're digging up ET - the game they blame for the VG crash.
$50 American, damn straight! And that's in 1982 dollars. What would that be now? $75?
If you're going to go back to 8 bit days, find M.U.L.E. or Star Raiders or some such.
Wow, the stories are true! I feel like I just saw buried treasure, and it was really, really, f***ing terrible.
@Pawfalcon It might possibly be buried treasure. Have you heard the rumor that the game was so bad that the developers buried the unsold copies in the New Mexico deserts.
I'm delighted I was in the safe confines of my mothers womb when this game came out in 82.
LOL at the cheasy gameplay that consists of falling down holes, stray jacket stalker, and kids possessing dead aliens. XD
Holy Mary Mother O' Jesus!
THIS turd of a game? I remember the sheer disappointment a few neighborhood kids had after BUYING (yes, actually BUYING) this game for their Atari 2600s. Glad my step-Dad saw this coming and didn't bother with it.
Seems Martin and Tom didn't know how to play the game.....should've selected level 3 instead of messing around....... I played the game way better when I was 9 years old back in the 80's.
