Plays Like...Rage and Dark Souls
- Oct 7, 2011
Wish you could get your Rage and Dark Souls fix while you're away from home? You're in luck! Randolph Ramsay takes you through some complimentary iOS games in the first installment of Plays Like...!
I came here ready to rip you a new one since nothing plays like Dark Souls. But you acknowledge that and then you went indie with rogue like games. You sir know your gaming.
Yes an on rails shooter and a game where you swipe at the screen play like Rage and Dark Souls lol. Good idea for a show though.
I like this idea for a show...it's cool to get ideas as to some similar games to popular ones that are out now, however it would be nice if they expanded the similar games to beyond just mobile devices...
that was interesting..... i guess (personally i think its dumb but good to know theirs games out there that mobile similar to console games)
Great show, really enjoyed it. Good to see "console-esque" device games getting a shout out for once - looking forward to the next installment.
Can't believe Warm Gun wasn't mentioned as an up-coming iOS title that'd "play like rage"... it's post apocalyptic, it's a fps and runs on the unreal engine... no indie love. Other than that, nice feature, perma death is a **** though ^^
@kambion313 No, that's why gamers like us play their PSPs when they're away from home. There are a lot more quality titles on there, and the Vita will only make this better. Well, gamers like me, anyway.
@Bboyjhin uhh... they are different markets, NO ONE abandons their console because they prefer iOS... they play their iOS device when they are away from their console... dude.
and thats why gamers like us wont change to IOS because of the lack of intensity of controls so i will stick to my consoles and pc games
This is a cool feature. Another game to check out for that Dark Souls experience is an lesser-known iOS title called Dragon Slasher. The game basically takes the Demon Souls formula and translates it into a 2D sides-scroller. Combat is not as complex (of course), but it has a similar gut-wrenching difficulty, particularly in later levels.
I think Rage and Dark Souls are just bad examples of games to play on the mobile or the tablet. The lose of control significantly takes away from the combat, a main focus of gameplay. On the other hand, the racing element of Rage should port well. I love the feel of driving on the iphone; tilting is just more fun than pushing buttons or sticks. Lol.
Awesome show. I love the idea of a Roguelike game on the go. Getting stuck into The Binding of Issac on Steam atm.
