Aaron and Ryan test their survival skills and experience random acts of online kindness in this look at The War Z
this looks terrible. this game is just an empty shell. When i saw a video a few months ago that looked like this game had a couple years of development left and then i found out its coming out soon i new it would be a disaster. Also this has to be the worst community i have ever seen. And why would i want to spend real money on a rifle or something just to die ten minutes later. No thanks ill pass.
I just watched this vid. about 10 min. and I just cant belive how somene who hasnt even taken a scratch on the surface of smth. thinks of himself to be able to make an insigthfull comment about what is going on.. jsut the "an hour long cooldown.. is this a great game mechanic? NO!" was enough to make me stop this vid., because this perfectly shows that maybe the ones taking this vid. cant read or just wont do it.. the game is still beeing given new features every once in a while and it maybe has no skilltree yet but in the future there will be one.. if your character can just jump back in after you died you could just go zombie huntin till some zed kills you and jump back in to farm your exp up but due to the one hour cooldown you wont be able to.. so this is a game mechanic that is basicly implemented with hintsight on future elements to be added.. just cant belive this...
I just read on the Steam forum someone saying something about "differing opinions" and still wanting to buy the game because it looked fun. My friends, I think this game is a great example of where people with differing "opinions" can be classified as either people of good taste (and good judgement) or people with no idea what good is (and have poor judgement). It boggles my mind that despite all this game's shortcomings [both in game and developer related], there's still people who say they want to buy this game. Think about it for a minute...
-There's a game that's exactly like it that comes free with purchase or the original (DayZ w/ purchase or ARMA)
-The developer basically lied on multiple occasions (w/ false promises, no moderation (towards hackers), etc.), released attack dog moderators to suppress negative criticism, and charged people for a game that can only be classified as ALPHA (not even Beta)
-War Z costs $15 ~ where there are hackers abound, no repercussions (or motive) for murdering fellow players [what's the point of working together when you can just kill people willy-nilly], and bugs up the wazoo (try logging in and finding a decent server to play in)
-Steam didn't even consider this game fit to be sold
-Reviewers such as Metacritic gave the game a poop score
You might say "well it's their money, they can do what they want" but think about the long term consequences. It's like CoD. If you let enough people with terrible judgement just do what they want, you get more of the same crap that normally shouldn't pass as adequate. Same principle applies to any other form of media (like movies), politics, what have you. When there's enough people to make/support bad choices, everyone suffers.
@theaznfish the only thing i agree with you is that this game can only be classified as alpha.. but to support something that is still in developement is not a bad choice to my mind.. best example with many followers would be minecraft what had a beta buyin, too.. just that WarZ is still in an earlyer stage of developement.. now your cry about that they made flase promise? i dont see them.. on the VERY FIRST look you might find promises made that are not met YET but if you are willing to make more than just one click for a game you are supposed to buy and play online you get the information that MANY of the contents they talk about at first sight are not implemented at the moment and are to come in the future... so what is a FALSE promise here? if your not able to click yourself past the main page I'm really sorry for you.. next point is crying about hackers.. yes there are MMO's with less hackers out there but point at only ONE where there are NONE and I'll praise you as a god.. anti hack is a nonstop work in progress es the other side is progressing nonstop, too.. crying about bugs while considering something as alpha or beta.. great way to judge a game really.. never seen an ALPHA or even BETA with NO disturbing BUGS.. they are to be found in this stages and to be worked on.. working on one bug and solving it also might force in a new one but as it is NOT fully released i dont expect it to be anything near bugfree since MANY final releases of bigger games developers have major bugs still in them... not as many for sure but thats why they are final... no programm runns without any casualties.. and reviewers try to give an objective view but EVERY view has a subjective component and reviews of people who seemingly NEVER set sight on deeper information about the game that the main page are not able to give a decent review I think..
my humple oppinion..
@r4v3nr0ck @theaznfish
Um, if you check out their purchase page, nowhere is it stated that the game is in development. So according the devs of the game, it's been fully released. So if someone just happens across the game, likes the screenshots and want's to buy it, they're being duped. You literally have to go to the forums just to find any mention of the fact that this is still a work in progress or a "foundation release"as sergei calls it. So there's your false advertising (non-disclosure of vital information).
Secondly, sure, MMO's have hackers. However, firstly, this is not an MMO, since the max server size is 100 for a few servers and 50 for the rest. MMO's generally have servers that can support hundreds if not thousands of people playing simultaneously on just 1 server. And secondly, how many MMO's have you played in which there are so many hackers that they actually detract from the experience of playing the game? I still haven't played one. Because most games that are as rife with hackers as this game are usually dead in a few months.
Thirdly, as I said in my first paragraph, nowhere is it mentioned, outside the forums and review and whatnot, that the game is in alpha or beta, or is a "foundation release" as sergei calls it. So if this game is fully released according to it's purchase page, then it shouldn't have these bugs. Hell, if the game wasn't fully released, it wouldn't even be getting reviewed. Sites like gamespot and gamespy don't review games that are still in alpha or beta. Also, according to the developers themselves, the game has been fully released since October 15th 2012.
As a bonus, I'd like to point out one very common bug that people found. The slope falling bug. This is a bug that used to make you take severe damage if you accidentally stumbled down a slight incline. As in 1/3rd of your hp would be gone. Check out Total Biscuit's video on this game, you'll see what I'm talking about. But anyway, they were supposed to fix this bug in the patch that came out last week, and the day after the patch came out, people made videos about surviving cliff drops and jumping off houses, but still took the same damage when stumbling down a cliff. So yeah, when a team doesn't even deliver on it's promises, why shouldn't the game be put down?
It is sad how this game is gaining attention by its crapness, while a lot of good games right now are being unnoticed.
Well, after all the bad things I have heard about this game and it's creators it is good to see an unbiased account of how crappy this game actually is.
I am not a War Z defender, but I just do not understand how players keep killing other players is a game mistake. It is open PVP, as it always was suppose to be. Of course some quests could take players to work together. But in a world where resources and weapons are scarce, it is better go alone or with one or two trustworthy friends. You can not just trust strangers that can kill you for a bandage, a nice meal or an unloaded pistol. Anyway, there is not enough food in the map to supply large groups of people like 15 guys, for instance. If you group up that large you will die from hungry, so, at some point, the group will have to start killing each other. Actually, this is where this game does right (maybe the only thing it does right).
WOW, so not Day Z! What a more lame version of Day Z. I mean I know Day Z is in Alpha, and looks like this game should be in Alpha, but DAYZ is way better looking/playing even in Alpha. And War Z sound like a big money rip-off. Py to re-spawn!? What A-holes!
Everybody got used to DayZ, that's why you think it is better. When it first came out everybody were like spitting around and complaining how bad it is, don't you remember? Then those who came over those issues stayed, played, and enjoyed, and those who wanted AAA-graphics/engine/animations - just quit and never came back.
And those guys sitting there, they didn't even played DayZ, they said they just watched YouTube videos of how it is played. Lol, if you watch something for like 6 months and then other game comes out - of course you'll like the first one, you got used to it. Then they (and guys like you too) watch some WarZ videos, read some comments and think "yeah, I know all about those games, this one is good, this one is not"... pretty lame...
I like DayZ, it was original, but it has its limits. There are tons of good stuff in DayZ which I would love to see in WarZ. And I am looking forward to see DayZ based on Arma 3, it should be great. WarZ is independent project and it might be more flexible and have more potential because it's... just not DayZ. But if you don't want to give her a chance - whatever.
@DemonRax @CruiserCaptain actually dayz is now being developed as a standalone game......
This is funny... You sit there, having fun, you've said "OH GOD" uncountable number of times, ran around, eyes are wide open, laughing and having a good time, then you die and stop, you look around, realize "oh snap, I should stop having fun" and you go back to saying same over and over again "don't buy this game, go play DayZ"... then you say "OK, let's play some more"...
You also did little to no research before saying things. For example, this "15$ for 24 hours" - you had no idea what is this about, and you told it in the beginning, giving out the wrong information, and only came back to correct yourself after 1 hour - not everyone would watch through whole video, most people just watch some of those broadcasts and turn it off. So people got wrong ideas from you, which is so unprofessional. Not mentioning that you haven't even apologize for your mistakes nor changed your comments about if it is a good offer or not. If fact I'm not sure you didn't even get the idea yourself...
So all you did you had fun with the game Beavis and Butthead style and then told us not to play it. Nice job...
Yeah, but just by watching the video gameplay and not listening to them I think most of us can tell this game is crap.
You can if you want to, yeah... you can do anything... @CruiserCaptain
I've played the game, and I'm not saying its perfect or better than other games etc. But it is better than they say it is for sure... Look at them - they were having fun.
And it is still at its development, tons of stuff to be done for sure, and team is working on that and updates are pretty frequent. I had no time to play it lately, but I hope I will, and I'm pretty sure it will get better too.
I just don't like how they just sat there with all the prejudice, look at each other like "yeah, let's say sh*t about this game, haha", and all the viewers watch and repeat 'yeah, yeah, sh*t, sh*t", haven't even try it... and you don't even see how those guys are playing and HAVING their fun, which the game is all about.
Oh, by the way. I never experienced force quit after dead, and I was playing since October 15th. I mean - never. At first, for maybe a couple of weeks, there were some bugs, application stopped working etc (I was using pre-release Windows 8 64x, which didn't help, lol), but then they fixed those, and my last experience was pretty smooth.
@DemonRax @WingChopMasta Just my 2 cents, but i didnt get that impression from them. I actually thought they liked the game somewhat but the bugs, and unacceptable problems like having to force quit after every death just put it at a Beta Testing level. I think the main issue is that the developers where trying to sell it as a market ready game and it isnt.
Hey, they spent well over an hour with it giving it some publicity, which cannot hurt the game. I took away a positive view of the game, just that its not finished.
@WingChopMasta Lol, yeah, sorry for my English, it's not my mother tongue, what can I do. And I'm not praising WarZ at all, I just don't like this focused hatred towards it.
@DemonRax @CruiserCaptain Something is fishy here. Your grammar and how you wrote this comment is sort of like the ones the devs of WarZ did on the user reviews on Metacritic to try and save their horrible score...hmmmmm.
"...random acts of online kindness..." -- That's more than we can say about the developers, hah.
@aceofspades187 They removed it from Steam, and gave those who have purchased a choice of either getting a refund or keeping the game.
If they add promised features and optimize everything it will be great. < Day one follower.
Hey if you guys bring your char to a safezone or have one near a safezone ill load you guys up and join you lol.
It's sad to know that DayZ, a game in its Alpha stage, is prospering while this Beta game is failing miserably.
@DeadrisingX1 Are you stupid? DayZ is not in alpha stage. it is currently a mod. You can not possibly say that it is an alpha stage game when there is no alpha for the standalone released. It is simply a modification to a fully released game!
We could ask you the same thing... War Z IS A MOD OF WAR INC! Day Z (the alpha state mod) uses the ARMAII engine and all of its art, models and assets; War Z uses the same engine as War Inc. and all of its art, models and assets. Day Z added glitchy zombies with decent AI. War Z added glitchy zombies with terrible AI. War Z has only added a very small map (that I could make in 30, 8 hour days given the fact that all the models were already there and all you have to do is place them.) and some zombies. It has none of the features it advertised. Day Z has tons more features and is an overall more complete game even as a mod that War Z which claims to be a full release.
DayZ just used Chernarus map, which took 2 years (!) to create by Arma developers. And then used Lingor Island, fan made map which also wasn't created in a day, you know. WarZ had no such luck, so it can't be compared the way you did here.

It's not so much a zombie MMO, but a small open world allowing less than 100 players to exist per server. The game's concept sounds amazing but it's not complete. And for those who are looking for a good PvE experience this is far from it. Some of the hardest-core gamers will definitely love the "thrill" and PvP. But even that's tasteless because the game has no real polish. xD
OMG, this looks SO BAD. A zombie MMO? WTF? What's with all the zombie garbage these days?
I gotta hand it to these guys for sticking with the game for this long haha. After a few hours playing this game I never want to play it again. Could not pay me to play again lol.
This looks really bad and really boring... Like at least Day Z is just a mod in its current state so they are limited by the game engine but this game is it own entity and looks bad.
Soon a lot of footage of this game and not a single piece of loot or weapons anywhere...
The respawn timer doesn't make sense -now-, but if a game like this is going to have any kind of progression(skills/talents that they claim will be in the game), you can't just respawn instantly and keep progressing. The whole point is to survive. However, they really should've given you 5 character slots and one "hardcore" so dummies don't think they're stuck at five characters with respawn timers active(rather than have 4 persistent and 1 you can delete/recreate every time you die).
Hilariously, I started the stream with Aaron dead... and then I read the caption under the video.
