Ryan Mac Donald and Jody Robinson jump fresh into the Star Trek universe to see what it feels like to BE Captain Kirk in Star Trek the Video Game.

This game is so bad that gamespot are scared to do a proper review on it cause they incapable of being soo negative about a game even if it is horrible. Instead they get some joke gamer to do a lets play. hes actually making this look a lot more difficult than it is.
@vadagar1 agreed. the star trek armada's where brilliant rts games. would love them to make another. also this game was terrible
predicted review score: 3.5
The AI in this game is unbelievably broken. Of my first hour of play I spent about 20 mins watching Spock running against a wall while waiting for him to complete his part of an objective before I could move on...why would the devs think this was acceptable? Lets just pray that the new star wars game isn't like this pile of dog sh*t.
Can someone (who knows how to use a computer and read instructions on the screen) redo this?.....
I played through the same part, it was a pretty underwhelming experience....the graphics and animation are the least of it's flaws, Star Trek deserves much better, shame on the people that designed this mess.
@hollywood1 I think its political. I've seen gamespot delay on releasing reviews before with completely broken games. I think they are letting star trek get in a few sales before they release their devastating review.
You should know me better than that, i NEVER conceive defeat ... that's mah man there. It looks like mass effect somewhat, lousy repetitive gameplay but a story line that's fingerlicking good, well developed characters and convincing voice acting , a grand interactive movie ?
@shnull that would have been good. but instead its a mess of broken co-op play. There are so many co-op objectives, where you need your partner to complete their half of an objective. You will watch your computer controlled partner (either kirk or spock) run against walls endlessly instead.
@Stabba_The_Kutt @shnull thanks, that should save me the time of trying to download a 14 Gig sized demo only to be disappointed lol
ill be completely fair. its crap. i was excited to play it, it had "some" cool aspects - mass effect knock off, with a star trek feel. lazy lazy lazy Dev's, shame on you for being so half arsed. most of us spend boo koo on custom gaming builds, and for what? 1 of these days enough gamers are going to get together and put you folks out of work. better yet "DEV'S" if your listenin, come holla at Liege and the rest of us TRU gamers and we'll put you straight on the direction of a real game. lammmmmme
I cant understand why this is getting slated so much , i have found it quite enjoyable so far...
@qewretrytuyiuoi how were you able to get past the co-op objectives? for me, I tried to give it third, fourth and even fifth chances, but couldn't get past the co-op objectives. Spock kept bugging out instead of completing his half of the co-op objectives.
@Stabba_The_Kutt @qewretrytuyiuoi i just ran ahead and left him behind most of the time, as soon as he was required to activate something i held down X ( xbox 360 conrtoller) and he magically appeared behind me to complete the task.
would be best to wait on this game til the bugs and co-op are fix and taken care of, it's a very buggy and semi broken game on release day. sigh, it's 2013 this should not be a problem but i guess QC is a forsaken department now
Think we need to wait before judging. some games don't look technically that great but when you experience their scope, ambition and variety its all good....fallout 3 springs to mind. if the developers have created lots of cool environments, exploration and story i'll keep on watching this space. However, thinking on Mass Effect;
first mass effect was best for me as it gave you a sense of exploring the galaxy/planet. Then they got rid of the Mako, rpg elements, ship mini game and such, and for ME2 especially, it felt like a bunch of "levels" tacked together with a few hub areas and general "smoke and mirrors" to simulate freedom and immersion without actually giving it. This will probably be the same which is a big turn off for me but we'll see.
@broost1 I agree with most of your Mass Effect comments, I missed the Mako alot too, but at least in my opinion the gameplay just got better with each sequel, from excellent in the original to stellar in ME3 with all those effect combos that you could string together.
I've played enough of Star Trek to confidently say that it's nowhere near Mass Effect in that respect, I'm hoping that the story will redeem the game eventually as I haven't played enough to comment on that.
Can't stand the type of game...I am too attached to old ST movies and games; so for me of the old generation is hard to move on. I play STO, and that's all of the new ST that I play.
I also heard that this game is quite buggy and has co-op issues with server log i; so I didn't even bother buying it...will wait for the budget price when everybody will return it to gamestop.
I just wish they would make a reboot of starfleet commander (strategic game, similar to the space combat in Star trek online), bridge commander (nice bridge sim) or Elite force (great 1st person shooter); but we have enough clones of 3rd person cover shooters...but this is what sell nowadays right?
I would endure a slow-motion full playthrough of Daikatana if it meant I could see and hear Jody while doing so.
@Acekidder @McGuirex3 And that's the problem. If I wanted graphics from 6 years ago I wouldn't play on a PC, I'd use my PS4 or drag the 360 out of the dust closet. PC version should ALWAYS look better than console graphically ( regardless of how suckass the rest of the game may be ).
@gruoch1 @mrboone01 @Acekidder @McGuirex3 lol I meant PS3.:p I'm grabbing a PS4 when it gets here though!
i still don't like story line on these two movies lets go back to ds9 and bring sisko back with enterprise-e and riker in command and fight someone in normal un timeline changed future the star trek we all loved before jj adams mess it all up. kirk would never go from cadet to federation captain in normal federation timeline
@Jeff Kinkade That's what STO is for; new movies are for new generations....I can't take spock banging uhura honestly, nor the whole enterprise run as if it was a teen drama set. The story are not that bad; very flashy; this is what sell nowadays.
The New movies are enjoyable junk food. Old Star Trek was much more fulfilling and sophisticated, but junk food is ok now and then.
@Seth Wiseman Shattner playing kirk was sophisticated? Ha! old school trekkies crack me up.
@StinkB don't take this as me defending aliens colonial marines, but at least you could play that game for more than 20 mins without getting stuck on an AI glitch.
@StinkB No way dude, no where near the trash that is gearbox's lie and cheat to the fans of aliens.
