Chris Watters is joined by Bill Trost from TRION to show off some mid game action in Defiance.
Would look more interesting if the guy playing was even slightly capable of multitasking
this showing is so bad lol the guy cant play and talk at the same time. i dont blame him either, but still hehe I really wish they put more focus on a storyline or pvp, their main focus is coop and thats not too big selling point for me, i dont want the story/lore from the tv series, im buying the game for the story not the show.as long as pvp is good, its a buy, but ill be waiting a month after release to see its multiplayer pvp success
I was curious to see how this looked, and I could probably get into it, but I couldn't watch this guy playing for very long. I'm pretty sure the game isn't a twitchy mess and that was purely down to how he was playing.
Is it another Linear mmo pos or more imaginative none restrictive similiear to Cryptic's stuff? About time mmo's get out of that predictable mode.
So much autoaim on this... Everytime you see him left trigger it snaps to their head briefly - trololol
Why come out with an MMO right before the new generation of consoles. People might play it for a few months but when the new consoles hit it will immediately stop. Should of waited
@buffaloblitz85 not everyone is going to switch from ps3 to ps4 when it releases. the fact remains that ppl wont have 500$ to drop on a new console when it comes out, and the ps3 population will be much bigger than the ps4 population for a long while. Not to mention xbox720 release date not even announced yet lol so you can expect current gen to still be largest population even till 2014
Played the beta and I had surprisingly alot of fun. Played quite a few of these 3rd person shooter mmos and this one actually has a crisper shooting and the driving is pretty fun also. The only gripe I had was the lack of story in the game. He sort of explaining what a arc hunter is but in the game you pretty much have no idea whats going on.
I've had a lot of fun with the beta for what it's worth. Playing it I'm constantly reminded of Borderlands, but with a third-person perspective and an open online world. It also has some rather fun PvP.
From the comments I think it is becoming obvious why a mmofps(rpg) hasn't been done right, because there is no consensus or consumer base for one. All the shooter fans complain about graphics and other FPS mechanics and then the MMO/rpg fans wan't content and character development. I think developers try to straddle the two which just doesn't work. If it is going to emerge as it's own genre I think it is going to require some heavy thinking outside the box.
@NuarBlack Check out Cryptic Studios mmo Champions Online. That game is older but still populated and seems successful. Its none linear and your char creation is like none other. The best part is classes can actually use other class weapons/items and work well if youre careful each compliments the other.
@NuarBlack Tabula Rasa had a market, and in the end of it's cycle it was doing rather well - but NC had already decided to pull the plug (for reasons unknown, possibly just to remove Garriott).
I hope this game has more variety towards what it offers in game modes. I also hope it's not like avatar the game which was fun for a while if you could make your own character that would be sick for this game instead of having to choose between different classes of specialist's humans or aliens. give them different voices for either male or female characters.
A lot of kids here, EA trolls, graphic doesnt make a game, its a game play and mechanics wich is making it good as so.
@Assimilat0r I think in this day and age good graphics should be default. There's no excuse for crappy visuals....
im glad I played the Beta so I could cancel my pre order I was not impressed at all also not worth the $59 price tag my opinion I know its only a beta but I dough't when the game releases there will be no difference
Graphics and animations don't impress me at all and the gameplay looks awkward. I'll pass on this one thank you!
Huh....You know I don't find this as interesting...Then again MMOFPS games aren't exactly my thing
Also this game isn't free to play, if it was F2P and not a purchase thing, I think more people would give it a try, it's always best to have a game free and open to people and have people judge if it's good to play or not
@kalgert123 Bad thing about F2P is that there is ALOT,ALOT of trolls. I think a low lvl tryout(like WoW once was, till lvl 10 is free to try), will bring more ppl and less trolls. Also the crying about Pay to Win will be endless, is just annoying to read all those whinning...
I have always wanted to play an MMORPG, but have never had the chance, since I play my games on the Xbox and PS3. I cannot quite afford a nice PC as of yet. I can't wait until I can afford a high-end PC so I can experience games like Guild Wars 2. I need some in-depth role-playing goodness. But I digress.
Defiance looks as though it could be a good game, and the fact that I can actually, finally, play an MMO on my console has me intrigued. However, the gameplay looks a bit dated and I haven't seen any real sign of tactical or strategic elements being utilized. I need to know more about the depth and grade of skills, equipment, weapons, armor, and other customization options. The gaming community does not need another sub-standard third person shooter with light, almost-nonexistent RPG ideas thoughtlessly tacked on and under-utilized.
And the whole idea of Defiance being based on, and collaborating with, a series on the SyFy channel is a bit disconcerting. It comes across a gimmick, some kind of selling point that turns out to be arbitrary and meaningless. The SyFy channel has made some of the worst movies I have ever witnessed (sorry, producers/writers/directors, but it is true.) Hopefully this will be a departing from the standard fare we have all seen with their series and programs.
Ya know, what is it, 10 years they have been trying to make a decent MMOFPS ? Closest so far would have to be PS1/PS2, but why is it so hard ? This doesnt excite me much, 5 years ago sure, now.... ?
@pr0teu5 @GetafixOz I take your point and your talking to someone who has played all BFs, all Planetside (playing PS2 right now) and the likes of WW2 Online etc etc. But we are talking about (for clarification) FPS mechanics in a persistent world with MMORPG character development. I think thats what most people mean when they say MMOFPS. In which case Id argue Tabula Rasa tried and failed, nothing else really matches that description 100% and this looks a little lame. So I remain of the opinion it still hasnt been done properly yet. But your point is well made.
I'll pass, looks about as appealing as Planetside 2. Bungie's Destiny is the only FPS MMO I'm looking forward too.
Unoriginal, uninspired, and unimaginative alien designs. The aliens look exactly like humans (seriously?). The show and game might as well try to emulate a 1950's b-movie.
I had to stop watching this footage. The movement and constant zoom in/out while this guy was running around has made my eyes go funny. I had the same problem with MoH: Airborne, and never got that game. Any interest I had in Defiance has melted away.
@Gallowhand Yeah, for some reason I couldn't get through the whole thing either.
I don't quite know why.
I had been contemplating getting this one as well, but doesn't really bode well, if can't even get through the gameplay video...
Holy shit!, those are bad animations. That bitch runs like she has a stick up her ass or something.
why do all shooter games have annoying looking hitmarkers? A good FPS or 3PS doesn't need X hitmarkers, the blood effects are good enough as a hitmarker.
This is a low res beta version running so i'm not too worried about how it looks ... it think this game is gonna be a lot of fun. seems like loads of customisation available, gameplay is snappy and frantic, and its an mmo ... i cant see much reason to not remain optimistic about it
