GAH i em so tired of indie games, an their black & white colorss with dem sad musics. why dont they just coloberate an make one big indie game that is same size and quality as a triple agame?

@Clownbabby

yeah they should just suffocate you in a pile of call of duty discs, you'll die happy then

@Clownbabby lol

Look it's usually 1 person or a few friends learning to make games. They learn to get better as they make their games.

There are plenty of colourful indie games out there too. In this one they wanted a depressing subject and a serious setting so the colours make sense (unlike some brown/grey AAA FPS games out there).

If you don't like indie games I'm sure there are plenty of big studio titles for you instead but don't hate on the creativity of these people. Some of them do go on to work for or found their own big studios and make triple A games later.

Which of them is Jess and which is Ed? The girl sounds like she was pushed out of the bed in the middle of the night to review the game... She sounds so bored, its crazy...

They should switch sides. The dude's head looks huge compared to Jess. just a thought.

No, because real world issues and depression are not fun, they would make a horrible game!

Games have been dealing with the harsher realities of life for years. Heavy Rain? Spec Ops: The Line? Remember those? Like all other mediums of entertainment, games should be able to explore any and every subject the developer chooses.

I'm being realistic here as a gamer. How do you make a "game" out of domestic abuse? Press X to block your partner from hitting you? Games are based around action, instead of story structures and narrative. They require you to play them, not watch them like a film. They rarely provide enough time to develop their stories because of the pressure to be played. I don't regard games as art because they rarely have anything important to say, no matter how fun they might be.

Any medium that aspires to be art needs to tackle such things. Games aren't paintings, they are closer to narrative art, and through the centuries writers have always attempted to make their readers think about real world issues.

That's such a narrow minded, blinkered view. Games offer interactivity, which has the potential to project emotions on the player like no other medium of art. They are perfect for making us think!

It's been a few years since I've played this I guess. Even though I really like indie games and adventure games, this one didn't really do it for me. Puzzles were simply too bad. I really liked what it tried to do with story and visuals, but as a game it fails in my opinion.

@DuaMn Fair enough! It sure isn't for everyone. Rather obscure puzzling.

Wait you mean I haven't been dealing with serious, real world issues?

I like the creative aspect of the recreation of real life drama and situations in the story line but if they always deal with dark and depressing subject matter, then I think that will have a negative impact on the draw of playing video games for "fun." Personally, I'd rather play a video game to "escape" reality for a little while. A chance to unwind and not think about anything but having a blast fragging a few friends. That being said, yes, just running and gunning with a weak story in a single player or coop situation can get rather boring and a weak or cheesy story can make or break a game. (Just Cause 2 excluded simply because the huge open world and ridiculous physics make up for the weak story and cheesy voice acting) Fans of games like the Uncharted series for example and for some, Gears of War can attest to the fact that the deep story line doesn't always have to be about reality for it to be just as engaging and immersive to be successful. :)

If the subject presented is well researched and presented in a mature manor and the gameplay is engaging not matter what it is point and click, puzzle or action.etc it don't matter

I feel that fighting off alien invasions is a very serious and real world issue.

We want many things and these games don't always mean you news to win. Games are a form of escapism but also a story told that's way more personal then any other medium. Heavy Rain manage to tell a story without winning. Gaming is also a great way to let people play whatever they want. People want these games otherwise no one will ever bring it up

Ricardo Martin

Entertainment is meant to ESCAPE reality! Why do you think "reality" shows are constantly accused of using scripts? Because THAT is what we want!

Ricardo Martin
Ricardo Martin

Sure. Let indie developers make these kinds of games. They alone will suffer the rejection of low sales while real gamers move on to another CoD clone.

Damien Straker

The medium isn't suited for dealing with issues like that. Games are played to "win", to be interactive. How are you going to show domestic abuse without taking control away from the player? We've seen a lot of games recently "dealing" with BIG topics, racism etc...but then they undo that by having you shoot a small army in the face, which has nothing to do with those themes.

This game looks really cool. Next time I'm in a blah mood, I'll give it a shot.

yes we want games that addresses serious issues , and not the ones in which we have to kill bad guys ( Russians and Muslims ), which seems to be always the case

Smokescreened84

Love the use of monochrome for the game, it works so well with the theme of the game.  It's refreshing to see a game use ideas that are usually considered too extreme and depressing for games.  Very refreshing to see.

@Smokescreened84 It's very clever. I hope we see more games like this.

@tempertress @Smokescreened84 Same.  Such a change to see a game that encourages intellect instead of just shooting something or blowing it up.

For once the depressing colourscheme was fitting :) If only the puzzles would have been better this game could have been a gem.

Oh and you should totally try "Machinarium" if you like point & clicks. It's a hundred times better than this imnsho.

Jj Trujillo

Yes. Why not? If you can go around killing innocent people in a airport in mw2 why not this? Simply put if you don't like the game or subject matter don't buy it. Wow logic is amazing sometimes.

James Hudson

NO, games are to be fun and like books go to places that are not real or we could never do..... leave the real life for when the pc is off...
