GDC 2012 - Game Developers Choice Awards
- Mar 7, 2012
It's the GDC 2012 Game Developers Choice Awards, with your host, Cliff Bleszinski.
Finally, someone who recognizes Gary Gygax and David Arneson. Thank you, Warren Spector, for a great speech.
i own dark souls, skyrim, batman... for me dark souls still the best which makes me can't stop playing it.. skyrim still lack some battle realistic for me.
alpha_unit97 when you say working on game 3-5 years is pure quality I want you to think of duke nukem, and before you go off and criticize my favorite game why don't you stfu, and the only reason why you dislike dark souls is because when you played it, it revealed that you truly suck at gaming, so when you get better please message me so i can put you back in your place with my +15 washing pole with darkmoon blade and parry you cause that how bad you really are.
GDC thanks for entertaining my otherwise dull Sunday afternoon, I really want to go to the next conference.
I'm happy for Greg Kasavin and Super Giant Games. I miss Greg's reviews at this site. He really knows where a good game is.
I think SKYRIM is well deserved of getting the game of the year award. That game has been ringing alot of bells through-out the gaming industry.
@ alpha_unit97 I respect your opinion but I think the problem is to compare both games when they offer such different experiences. Even though both fall into the "RPG" category. They are both great but in very different ways. Dark Souls is hard because it was supposed to be hard as we didn't see in games for a while. It's predecessor (so to speak) Demon's Souls was also very hard and in both games the difficult is what separate then from other games. Not their graphics, sound, etc. Skyrim is a gigantic experience very well executed but has little to really differentiate it from other games. At least in my opinion the experince offered was very similar to Oblivion. I'd rather play games that really challenge me than games that entertain me for a large amount of time with an OK challenge. I can even anticipate some arguments about replay value but anyway that's how I feel about it.
Haters gonna hate. Skyrim is a beautiful, massive game that provides endless hours of quality entertainment. It may not have the best looking graphics, or deepest battle system. But it has a ridiculous amount of content. It's a game that's truly worth the money spent on it.
@LorDofGod i am sorry man, but you are wrong. i will give 1 example to prove that. in skyrim, when you have to trap that red dragon in whiterun. and then when you do, he says he'll help if you let him go. the game says 'talk to the dragon' as your next step, yet dragon goes ballistic and attacks everyone. it happened every damn time i tried. and bethesda...fallout 3, an absolute copy of oblivion, they even used same faces!! skyrim just carries the torch. and like that isn't bad enough how lazy bethesda is, they even used the subplot from new vegas. empire(legion) vs stormcloaks (NCR)
I'm sorry but dark souls just sucked in my opinion, the world was completely dead, customization was crap, it was way to frustrating and hard to even be called an enjoyable experience and it is in NOOO WAY better than Skyrim. Skyrim was absolutely massive, alive, extremely impressive and is quite possibly one of the best games I've ever played, I'm sorry but if you put 5-3 years into working on one game then that's just pure quality and you deserve every award you get. well done Bethesda! I applaud..
@Gravelord_Nito man, the bugs in skyrim are really rare, you only find them if you really try to find them, and does not disturb the fun of the game and can be easily fix with patch... and besides, you have a bigger world, more evolving story, easer combat and MOD... so, if your only argument are the bugs, sorry, skyrim deserve the title of the game of the year.
kinda think games should only be allowed as an option under one category each.... just saw the same exact games under every category..... it gets pretty old and doesn't spread the love enough
sorry for double post, but i'm glad dark souls was even nominated for Game Of the Year. It deserved the win, by far. It's the best game ever made, but Skyrim is all the hype...
'All I ask, is for developers not come up on stage with cheetos dust on their fingers' DOUCHE!!! LOL!
The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is the game! Perfect design, audio and playability. The game is really a dream. I always wanted a game like it.
skyrim, one of the most buggiest games ever(along with every bethesda release), has nothing on dark souls
Eh.... I Would have chosen The Witcher 2. That Game dominates every game last year in almost Every aspect imo(except for Dark Souls, which comes very close). But Congrats to Skyrim, is a Good game.
Best narration for Portal 2? Uh, no. Just no. I played it twice - it's a good story, funny dialogues and Wheatley, but The Witcher 2 wipes all off.
stoped watching at uncharted 3 getting visual award TROLOLOLOLOL.BF3 shoulda got both GOTY and visuals. Ill still be playing Battlefield 3 in years while every f'ng 2011 releases are already all outdated trash with 0 longevity. Brilliant judges, brilliant.
