EA has abandoned its online pass scheme -- a bit of news we thought you'd be delighted by. Turns out not everyone is rushing to thank EA. Johnny investigates.
I want more Feedbackula. And since I'm a lone, entitled, apparently-semi-competent internet user, my wants should be important to everyone! I will not be ignored!
It was supposed to be live on Tuesday? Yet no video, oh god I bet the hate train of comments running through the internet has gotten to Johnny. Haven't you seen the adverts on TV telling you to watch the tracks? If he was bed ridden before, he will be again now.
I wouldn't be surprised if the video was done by some randomer off of the streets, reading a script out of context (so their heads don't explode as well) because all of the team have been incapacitated by the level of irrational hatred.
I enjoy watching this show GameSpot, but something said on here recently by Johnny, which I'm sure he was probably told to say, is just total BS. To a comment about GameSpot being paid for reviews, it was stated that GameSpot has a policy that doesn't let them take money for good reviews. However, while they may not directly take money that way it still happens via the money paid by devs to to puts ads on this page. Best example is the Jeff Gerstmann firing. Devs do hold sway over review scoring because no one wants to lose their job, and in a industry like this one reviewers can be easily replaced. Also, it wouldn't be hard for reviewer to give a game a bad score because it's dev didn't pay GameStop for ad placement. While I like GameStop for industry insight I do not trust this site at all for accurate game reviews. By the way, I want you to respone this on your next Feedbackula. I doubt GameSpot will let you, but I would be interested in hearing what measures, if any, or changes GameSpot has made to prevent these sort of practices from happen and what date were the implemented.
@MichizaneFFXI: I think it is a balancing act of sorts. I am assuming that ad revenue is based on a per click, per view or per visitor basis. If Gamespot had zero credibility then nobody would really pay attention or read their reviews and, in turn, visit their site. If their site lost viewership then the ad revenue would drop. Granted, it is probably much more complesx than that but it seems to me that they (Gamespot) have more of a vested interest in keeping their viewers happy and generating new viewers than bowing to their advertisers. As with SimCity we have all seen that it doesn't really matter what the review says...people will still buy the game.
I can see Gamespot being paid for certain PREVIEWS to games...which is a common PR vehicle used by companies. But getting paid for a positive REVIEW on a game that absolutely sucks will just cause them to lose credibility and viewers. Just look at the Feedbackula coverage ripping some of these big name games. I don't see EA paying for that kind of negative publicity.@lizardlava @meatz666 @TheGreatPhoenix @cjtopspin @MichizaneFFXI actually Jeff Gerstmann's firing was one of the best things that happened to GS imo, want to see how reviews should NOT be done? take a look at Giantbomb.
@meatz666 @TheGreatPhoenix @cjtopspin @MichizaneFFXI Gerstmann works at Giantbomb.com now, there reviews are pretty legit.
I was as disgusted as the next person when the Jeff Gerstmann debacle erupted, but that was over five and a half years ago now. Johnny has laid out the rules, we can all safely assume that Capcom aren't doing a very good job of bribing anyone, and WHERE IS MY NEXT EPISODE OF FEEDBACKULA???
I like to think they're doing a movie-length feature about either the XBOX-One or the 'WiiU is crap' news 'story'.
@meatz666 @cjtopspin @MichizaneFFXI indeed, its also in completely the wrong section of gamespot.
Lets post my personal problems with gamespots reviewing practises on a coment parody show. And let me also put in a dare that will not be taken seriously, ignored and therefor I can stroke myself in awe of my perfect self fufilling prophecy
MOAR FEEDBACKULA!!
(I would also prefer a predetermined schedule of episodes to fit better with my overly regimented lifestyle and total inability to adapt to change. Thank you.)
It's not about EA and wanting to make a profit, every company in the world wants to make a profit and we should want every company in the world to make a profit, why because we all benefit from it. But it's the way EA goes about making their money and this could be said for a lot of gaming companies about how they are making their profit. DLC's, DRM, online play only, codes, MMO's and F2P models, talking about cyptic here, not choice of a sub for DnD neverwinter. Your games are already overpriced, but yet you still want to nickel and dime the customer to death. I say fuck you and your shit.
Again I will say it, stop buying new games at full price. Buy used or buy them a year later for under $10 much more satisfying.
So... With the X1 implementing fees on all used games and Sony leaving it up to the publisher... How paranoid were we again?
... Right.
So it turns out that EA probably scrapped online pass because they knew of Microsofts evil plan to block the use of all pre-owned games unless a fee is paid. You can tell the world has gone mad when the tinfoil hat wearers are 100% correct.
@6:03 Johnny, with the always on kinect 2 EA could be watching our every move when we play their games.
Make the Xbox One episode an extra long special. Come on, we are ready. We can take it!
Man, I can't wait for the Feedbackula on Xbox1.
The thing is, 99% of the comments are negative... lol
Funny that this episode is about EA droping Online Pass.
Two weeks later Microsoft put Online Pass on everything... :)
Hey all, just wanted to let you know the next episode of Feedbackula won't be online until next Tuesday. I am currently a bed-ridden mess owing to some virus doing the rounds at the minute. Rest assured you will get an episode on the Xbox One announcement as soon as I'm back to health. Sorry!
@SHEETBIKE Get well. I don't mind waiting for the next episode. With everything that has been going on, I'm sure the next episode will be epic!
Johnny, like Ali G and Dennis Pennis before you, you have become a victim of your own sharp-tongued success. When people actually hope to be singled-out for ridicule on future instalments of Feedbackula, we really have fallen through the looking glass. Now bend me over and call me an asshat.
JOhnny,
I hope you make an extra long episode about the Xbox One reveal...as many rats and PISS4 lemmings are already calling the winner of the next gen. Thankfully they'll be leading the charge with....a controller....and some pretty CG cutscenes for future games.
LEMMINGS!!!!!!
As for a more level headed person, such as I, I'll wait till E3 before I make my complete decision regarding the Xbox $one and the PISS4..
If you use this, please make sure it's a deep manly voice that reads it...
@lostastsea22485 From what I have seen, for me the Xbox offers more and has advanced technologies at it's disposal. 3 OS's, 5 Billion transistors and 300,000 servers which is going to pretty much eliminate lag and we have seen it's gaming power with the reveal of Ghosts. And to top it off, when I feel like I don't want to play a game, I can just watch TV. It's everything in one place, The way it should, what more could someone ask for. It seem people are boycotting Microsoft for making the Xbox One more than just a console. The only down side is the used game fee but that doesn't really effect me since I only buy my games new.
Hahahahahaha, what a funny joke, calling people with logical fear of EA doing something behind the scenes tinfoil heads! Terrific! Say, whats your comment about EA having an exclusive deal with MS on theyr new used games blocking console again?
@TheDromader Well, the tinfoil head bit was in response to someone claiming EA might be secretly tracking them, but I take your point. I'll be looking at the used games thing in the next episode, and will definitely be having a look at EA. Thanks for the comment.
Johnny, Johnny, Johnny.........you must be pretty embarrassed right now, since every naysayer was right about EA with the reveal of the Online Pass 2.0 (times one million) that is Xbox One.
Don't get me wrong - I enjoy Feedbackula. Everyone likes to see the Illiterati taken down a peg or two and I think Johnny's a witty and engaging host, but I'm puzzled by the show's redesign. What's the relevance of a Wild West theme when the name of the show is a play on the title of Bram Stoker's most famous creation (something that was reflected in the previous 'horror' Feedbackula theme)? Then there's the Mariachi music and the Día de Muertos skulls. Perhaps the title of the show could be changed. 'The Good, The Bad and Feedbackula'? 'Once Upon a Time in the Web'? 'True Shit'? I dunno.
That moment you realize that you labeled people as paranoid and it turns out they were right.
da hell is up with this guy? EA deserves all the hate it's getting. and hell no we shouldn't be foolish enough to think they don't have another trick or 200 up their greedy sleeves.
I love the new voices. Please pick random unrelated people around the office and off the street to read the lines more in future ';,,;'
You know whats great about being a PC gamer. Is that steam takes care of us. Valve is the future... soon we will Crush EA.... its just a matter of time.
@blackoutmuser LOL, they changed the show's graphics and theme to match the music haha.
