THESE HINTS & TIPS BROUGHT TO YOU AS SPONSORED CONTENT
The tips included in this article are provided courtesy of the Quality Control team in our Avatar studio in Montreal, who have all worked really hard trying to polish the game, and have learned a thing or two about how best to be successful in both the RDA and Na'vi singleplayer campaigns, the Conquest meta-game, and the multiplayer mode in Avatar: The Game. Not all of the tips may come as deeply insightful revelations about how to play, but they should at least be able to help you to get through some of the tougher areas in the battle for Pandora.
"Ladies and gentlemen, you're not in Kansas anymore. You're on PANDORA!" - Colonel Miles Quaritch
Corporation (RDA) Singleplayer Campaign
The corporation is well equipped and relies on high-end technologies and massively destructive equipment. It's probably a bad idea for an RDA trooper to go out in the jungle alone. They're much better off being escorted by at least a small team, if not by heavily equipped vehicles like the Swan or the Grinder ATV, not to mention the Dragon and Scorpion helicopters.
- CREATE SOME SPACE:An RDA trooper will usually benefit from approaching the enemy with a group, using a variety of weapons as a team. The flamethrower is effective for quickly taming the more aggressive plant life. It can also do a great deal of damage to the Na'vi, while creating a natural barrier between you and them. Another good weapon for dispatching the Na'vi is the grenade launcher. It inflicts a significant amount of damage and can really stop the enemy in their tracks. Make sure to drop your reticule just a little lower than you normally would, to make sure that the grenade explodes at the enemy's feet, sending them flying.
- RANGE YOUR WEAPONS:As a first line defense, before you're swarmed, consider using the Standard Issue Rifle, which is more effective at range. Once your opposition closes the distance between the two of you, try switching to the Assault Rifle, which is one of our go-to weapons in most combat situations.
- GO BERSERK:When you're in a boss fight, the Berserk skill really comes in handy, to make sure that you inflict maximum damage and end the fight quickly.
- USE YOUR WHEELS & ROTORS:Whenever you can, put yourself behind the controls of a vehicle. All of the vehicles will provide you with the protection you need to keep Pandora's threats at bay and provide you with a more potent arsenal to fight back with, even during a boss fight.
Favorite RDA Skill Combos:
- ZETA FIELD & BERSERK:The Zeta Field skill provides the player with the armor boost necessary to absorb a lot of hits while the Berserk skill increases the amount of damage that you can dole out. The combination of the two really provides the best offense/defense combination for the RDA.
- ULTRASONIC REPULSOR & GENETIC RECOMBINATOR:When you find yourself in a situation where you're swarmed with a rapidly depleting health meter, the Repulsor will give you some breathing room, and enough time for the Genetic Recombinator to give you a quick boost of health.
- CHROMATIC BLEND & ELITE TRAINING:If a quick stealthy infiltration or a hasty escape is needed, the Elite Training skill will allow you to move really fast while the Chromatic Blend skill will cloak your movements, making it virtually impossible for the enemy to figure out where you've gone, or where you've come from. Alternatively, knock a swarm of enemies down with the Repulsor and get out of there in a hurry with the help of the Elite Training.
Na'vi Singleplayer Campaign
The Na'vi are tall, agile, and are significantly stronger than any RDA on foot. A solitary Na'vi can easily overcome several RDA troopers if at close range. With a pair or more of Na'vi working together, their attack can be lethal. Since the Na'vi rely heavily on traditional weaponry, their effectiveness is far superior in melee combat then at range, although the sporadic use of the Na'vi bow is helpful to take advantage of a high perch or to take down a single RDA trooper without advertising your presence to the group.
- PANDORA IS YOUR WEAPON:The Na'vi are able to scale the root systems and cliffs of Pandora much quicker and more comfortably than the RDA. Use the advantage of surprise, or the perspective from above to catch a patrol of RDA troopers unaware. Pandora is both your weapon and your shield in the fight against the invader.
- MOVE LIKE THE WIND:Another point for the Na'vi is their ability to run faster and jump higher than any RDA trooper can. With the addition of the Kinetic Dash skill, you can easily close the gap or put some ground between you and your enemy.
Favorite Na'vi Skill Combos:
- PANDORA'S PROTECTION & KINETIC DASH:The Kinetic Dash will put you face-to-face with your opponent in a hurry while Pandora's Protection ensures that you don't take too much bullet damage on the way there. Have a large axe or mace ready to dole out some damage.
- TITAN'S BASH & THE DUAL BLADES:If you're swarmed by RDA troopers, use your Titan's Bash skill to stun them and follow up with a series of rapid slashes with your dual blades.
- PANDORA UNION, TITAN'S BASH & WHIRL OF FURY:Sneak in undetected (Pandora's Union), stun your opponents (Titan's Bash), then crush them all with a large weapon and a fury-induced damage boost (Whirl of Fury). Truly a deadly combination....
Conquest Meta-Game
In the Conquest meta-game, you'll get a better idea of how your fight on the ground (through collecting Experience Points, or XP) can influence the overall battle for Pandora, and how the ongoing battle brings benefits to you and your character (through Bonus Rewards). The most important lesson that we've learned in Conquest is that patience is a virtue. Don't rush to conquer the world on your first visit! Storming in on enemy soil without evaluating the opponent's defenses could prove to be very costly in infantry, ground units and air units. Before jumping headfirst into a really tough fight, have a look at the target zone and evaluate your likelihood of success. If you come up short, think about setting off a nuke or pitting Pandora against the RDA before charging in with a non-movement-based attack. Remember: it's a strategy game. Make sure to switch frequently between your campaign and the Conquest meta-game to convert all of your XP earned to credits so you can periodically expand your influence on Pandora.
- DIVERSIFY YOUR FORCES:Make sure to build up your forces in all areas, including infantry, air and ground units. Each can serve different roles in both attacking and defending against enemy attacks. At times, you'll occasionally find yourself taking a battle not due to sheer numbers, but because you've got the right mix of units.
- PICK YOUR BATTLES:Each specific zone unlocks a single type of bonus. Make sure to review the Reward Layer from time to time to make sure that your war path is both militarily strategic and efficient at meeting your needs in the main campaign.
- BUILD REGIONAL CENTERS:Sometimes marching your forces across wide areas of the planet becomes inefficient, and can leave holes in your defense. Set up regional bases (factories and bio regenerators) to spread your influence evenly. The cost of new forces is sometimes higher, but may give you more flexibility in managing several skirmishes at once. Likewise, enemy factories & bio regenerators will keep producing opposition. Take them out as soon as you can.
- HUNKER DOWN:If presented with an equal or greater number of opposing forces, stand your ground, set up your defenses, and dig in for a long fight. Let the enemy come to you. You do not need to leave troops in each zone you capture, but make sure the front lines are staffed and properly defended as you conquer.
Multiplayer Campaign
Most of your effective tactics in each of the singleplayer campaigns will fare well in multiplayer, so don't forget what you've learnt. Don't go it alone, however. Always send a team to take an objective, capture a flag, or even take down the enemy (in a team deathmatch, for example). Here are some other tips, broken down according to the gameplay mode you're in, that we've found to be helpful when you're taking the battle online:Team Deathmatch
Team deathmatch should be a familiar multiplayer mode for those with experience online. Always attack in groups of at least two or three; ensuring better protection for each member. Solo players will have a tough go of doing it on their own. Try to be stealthy by using the Chromatic Blend or Pandora's Union skills (as a Na'vi) to get behind enemy lines. Consider using a Tactical Strike or Swarm's Wrath to take out enemy chokepoints.Capture the Flag
A good strategy is always to send a team of two to three members to the flag and keep two players at your base to protect your own flag. If a player in your scout group gets killed with the flag, a teammate from the group can quickly pick it up and continue the sprint back to your base.King of the Hill
As a Na'vi, the Command Station or main hill will be easier to defend if you capture the Power Buff (the hill with a lightning bolt symbol) first. Doing so will allow you and your teammates one-shot kills with the bow and arrows. This is a valuable technique if multiple Na'vi are able to find higher vantage points, aiming down strategic paths taken by the RDA.Capture and Hold
Try to move in several groups of two to three, always talking to each other. This will allow you to control more than one area without getting overpowered too often by larger groups.Final Battle
Don't expect to take out an enemy's missile or crystals alone; you'll be whacking away at it for far too long, all the while exposed to attacks from the other team. Concentrate your offensive team on one point at a time until the objective is destroyed, leaving no time for the enemy to repair it.James Cameron's Avatar: The Game
