The game is a great game if you are into diablo clones. However; there is too much talking in the storyline.

User Rating: 9.6 | Shining Force NEO PS2
While the talking in the storyline doesn't really bother me, it deviates slightly from the original storyline laid out in the Shining Force original game. The NPC System however is great; and seems to add a good deal of value to the game and its replayability. I am still playing around with the force arts and engraving, but the system seems truly unique to anything I've seen so far.

So far, the storyline seems ok. I would imagine it is going to develop more as time progresses, and the game seems to have a fair amount of length working in it's favor. This doesn't look like a 10 hour RPG, albeit I am still relatively close to the beginning and I have no real idea how long it is going to take to beat.

If you enjoyed the original shining force game and are looking for a true predecessor to that, then this may not be what you are looking for. However; I'd still readily give it a 9/10 for its presentation and the values of sticking to the game's original world in certain aspects. Treat it like Phantasy Star Online for the purposes of how the game feels to play, it isn't strategy, it's definately more Diablo-Style dungeon crawling. If the game had online play, I'd easily rate it 10/10. That's the only drawback. But the storyline orientation makes it difficult for them to have an online mode, since you are all playing as the same character with the same name and the same appearance as I am, there'd be 400 maxes with red hair and a white suit online running around together. Some more variety would have served this game well, but it has still managed to strike a tune with my heart just like the original.
