Classic Turn Based Strategy, one of the all time great Genesis games!

Truly great RPGs were hard to find on the ol' Genesis. There was Phantasy Star...and thats about it. But Shining Force 2 stands apart as one of the greatest turn based strategy RPGs of all time, and a true innovator and inspiration for many great games to come afterwards.

The story was very good for its time, and whilst it pales in comparison to some other RPG's stories released during the 16bit era, it still holds its own. the battle system is unique and this was the first time i experienced a turn based battle system like this, and i have yet to see it duplicated more effectively in any other game to date. the battles tend to blend in to one another after a while as you are engaged in a fight probably 80-90% of the total gameplay time, however the charm of SF2 is that this never becomes stale or boring. the graphics are wonderful for their time, and especially the nice touches, like the pop up animation of the characters faces to accompany the dialogue, or the great animation that occurs when you attack, are signs of the effort and love that went into the games creation. the music, well, that is something to behold. from the opening title screen theme that belts out in a marvelous fanfare, every piece of music is wonderful, and to my mind represents some of the finest musical efforts of the 16bit era.

A truly marvelous game, any RPG lover should definitely experience this game. it stands firmly in my mind as one of, if not the best RPG on the Genesis. Highly Recommended.
