Even by todays standards this game offers an addictive battle system.

The Gamespot reviewer did not play this game. That is all i can draw from his mediocre review of a great game. I will agree that most of your time is spent in battle but thats a good thing. Each character has different abilities that have different range and damage/usefullness. On top of changing and making new personae for new abilities you can change the formation of your party and multiple slots of weapons and armor. Talking to the demons has more than just getting a spell card at stake. Depending on how it goes you can also inflict status ailments on the entire group of demons or have them inflicted on your party members. The demons will also occasionally grant you items. "the frequency of battle negates the benefit of making your enemies leave peacefully. " this sentence doesn't make a lot of sense. when you may be far from a save or hospital/shrine for heals and more SP the possiblility of getting your enemies to leave without hitting you or of giving them a status ailment that lower their or raises you damage is a valuable commodity.

all in all this game has a good story and an insane battle system that can rival disgaea in its complexity. it has it's grindy moment like any dungeon crawler/persona game but adjusting the battle setup makes it more than fun.
