This was the first game in the SMT line i ever bought, and luckily i got it for a fair price soon after release. The first time i heard of this game was when G4 was doing its previews of upcoming titles and i instantly noticed from one of the scenes that Dante of Devil May Cry was in this, Being a fan of both Rpgs ang Devil may cry i rushed out and bought it. The first thing i noticed upon starting was the Graphics, with an unique style that seemed far too perfect for the setting, which is one that hasnt really been done in rpgs as your usually the one who stops the apocalypse....not this time. the next thing i noticed was the difficulty, silly me thought i could go FF on this and just have my other demon helpers bring my main character back if he falls.....Nope. You die its game over. this seems cheap but it makes you focus that much more on your hero which really is the most important thing in the game, how your guy chooses to act(literally by choosing options) affects the story and world around him. A demon you thought youd have to fight could suddenly choose to join you, or you could simply beg another demon to let you go by bribing him. The interactions with the demons is wonderful despite there not being a word of spoken dialogue the script and choices are exceedingly well done. That being said the combat becomes addicting, allowing you to both power level beyond the norm, all the way up to lvl 255, and customize you hero and his demons to your liking, your hero via magatama(demon parisites that work as armor) and your demons via fusion, Got one Demon with a strong fire skill? Got another with a good attack skill? dont want both on your team? fuse em and get the best of both in one new body! Truely a wonderful game, but unfortunately not for everyone. Heavy religious Representations and Lots of anti-god stuff abound keep the religious types clutching their crosses, and Monstrous ramp up of difficulty coupled with a brutal kill or be killed enemy AI, trust me they can be nasty, keep all the light weight outta this one as well.Well the only thing i can really say is if you can find a copy for cheap dont hesitate to grab it before somone else does, This game is gold.
