Time Spent:
10 to 20 Hours
The Bottom Line:
"Amazing"
Whilst it may lack in story compared to Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor, Devil Survivor 2 does make up for it with a whole new beloved cast of characters, a uniquely implemented Compendium system that really eases and promotes stat fusion.

True enough, the story in DS was much more in-depth, and uniquely intriguing, DS 2 is not something to be taken lightly however.
A great story, and accompanied by the great graphics as usual (Hey hey Fumi and Hinako!), a wider selection of demons, and the Fate system that pushes you to consider who to befriend next.

Storyline: 8.4
Amazing, it certainly is great, Devil Survivor was truly a game that had a story too much to compare with, so it's not really a matter about beating it in this part.

Even as a standalone Devil Survivor game (which it is), the story was quite magnificent and well co-ordinated.

You're a typical high school student in Japan, and when the world is pushed into absolute chaos and ruins because of demons and interference from higher beings, you must fight for survival, and choose your ultimate end with the companions you save from death by your side.

Art: 9.2
The cinematic opening really caught my eye. It's not doubt a lot of effort was put into the graphics and designing.
The demons (new ones) also look much more appealing than what it was in DS.

Gameplay: 8.4
What I wanted in DS, was to read the description of the demons, like a mini-Pokédex, ya know? I'm glad they brought the feature into DS 2, aka the Compendium.
The gameplay is not much different from DS, apart from nifty upgrades to the demon's skills.
Also, I would say much more emphasis is put into fusion now, as you need to fuse demons to get different skills, instead of the old Magnemite feature. (I like this part a lot, as fusion is actually now requires more deep thinking and consideration.)

Re-playability: 8.2
Yep, it carries multiple endings, just like DS, worth replaying a lot!

Shin Megami Tensei is a Role playing game released by Atlus in 1992. You play role as a hero in which demons have spawned and it's up to you to either side with them, save the world or restore both balances.

  1. My SMT collection. It will only grow with Devil Summoner 2, Devil Survivor, and the Persona remake.
