ShellShock: Nam '67 is fun but it is short and kinda depressing.

ShellShock: Nam '67 is one of those Vietnam games that came out onto consoles last year during fall. ShellShock is the best out of those games but it is the brutal and short experience. It also worth mentioning that this is the same development team that made the PlayStation 2 first-person shooter, Killzone and both of thses game have simiar problems.

In ShellShock 'Nam 67, you can choose which soldier to play as out of three. All three of these characters play exactly the same and the only difference is that they look slightly different and their helmets at the start of the game have different words written on them such as "meat puppet".
Another thing that developers boasted about is that you start of a regular US grunt and later on in the game you bome apart of the US Special Forces. This doesn't actually change the gameplay at all and you just get changed into a different uniform and you get to use some more powerful weaponry.

So the actual gameplay is a pretty straight-forward experience. If you are wondering what the game plays like, it plays like a standard third-person run and gun shooter. The trailers made it seem that the game is going to be slow-paced and you are going to have to take your time and watch out for any foes trying to sneak up on you. ShellShock plays nothing like this at all.
Most of the objectives in this game are very simple. Most of them consist of getting from point A to point B killing anybody who is stupid enough to get into your way. Other objective consist of blowing up tunnels, picking up intel, searching the area for any weapons. Pretty basic stuff.
In most of the missions you will be accompanied with a squad. These guys are not bad as they go provide pretty good covering fire and they aren't at actually killing people. But the problem with these guys are that they can't die whatsoever. Sometime they will get shot and they will hit the dirt but they will get back up again and fight like nothing happened. Sometimes your soldier will die but it is apart of a set-piece that happens everytime when you play. You also can command your sqaud but you wouldn't need to anyway.
The AI of your enemies is pretty poor. They just charge at you or sometimes they will hang back trying shoot at you that way. You can just pcik them off no problem. They only time when the can be challenge is when you are surrounded by them but if you are careful enough that won't happen.
But the action is pretty good and intense. The best parts of the game of the game are when lots of action is happening on screen and both your friends and your foes are just going at it. The combat is fun mostly because of the blood and gore. You can shoot off their head, legs and of course arms. If you are squeamish, stay away from this game.
In terms of weapons you get plenty of them like 9mm pistols, rocket-launchers, AK47s, shotguns and so forth. They all feel pretty powerful apart from the pistols which are next to useless.

The graphics on the PS2 version of this game are pretty good and are identical to the Xbox version which is surprising. The levels are quite big and character models and outdoor environments look quite good. The indoor level don't too great though and they look very basic.

The sounds is a bit better than the graphics and they game has music from the time period and good voice acting to boot. But the enemies repeat their lines far too often and this happened in Killzone too.

On terms of length the game is very short and you can easily beat the game in under five hours and with no multiplayer, ShellShock won't keep you going for a very long time.

But even still if you see ShellShock: Nam '67 with a cheap price tag, check it out.
