Mediocre PC game becomes a really bad idea on the Xbox

User Rating: 2.1 | Shattered Union XBOX
On the PC, Shattered Union would be a mediocre Panzer General rip-off at best. On the Xbox, it's a good day on the couch ruined. This game is absolutely terrible.
Graphics that might show up well enough on a computer screen but turn out rather distorted on a TV screen as well as the game's frequent use of tiny text that is barely legible if at all both contribute to a rather frustrating experience. In addition, the game's limited cutscenes look more like rough animations -- as if, the game's programmers threw them together just to see what it would look like and then forgot to finish them off.
Mechanically, the game suffers from lack of a mouse, particularly if you are not organized enough to remember where you've put every one of your units. During the battle sequences, if you engage the enemy with a unit, you cannot simply move on to the next unit. You must shuffle through the queue using the D-pad rifling through unit after unit that you've already moved. Additionally, this game did not fare well with the wireless controller with the cursor flying all over the place at the slightest tap.
All in all, the lone bright spot of this game seems to be the concept itself. I think few things grab the eye of a strategy gamer more than fighting for your actual home territory. Unfortunately, it quickly turns into a slightly more-involved game of Risk without any kind of replay-ability factor . It just doesn't work and should never have been made for the Xbox or any other non-PC platform.
