Shatter puts you in a trance with its fusion of beats and visuals that add new dimensions to the brick-breaking gameplay

User Rating: 8.5 | Shatter PS3
Shatter is a brick-breaking game. That sounds boring. Shatter is a high-adrenaline brick-breaking game infused with throbbing beats and flashy graphics to the point where you'll certainly forget that the core game play revolves around hitting blocks with a ball. That's more like it.
Shatter takes the formula created by the classic game "brick-breaker" and injects it with style. The music is awesome and it carries the flow of the game as you use your onscreen paddle to ricochet a ball around the stages. The game is kept fresh by a number of thoughtful mechanics. The stages aren't all the same- sometimes you're positioned vertically, other times horizontally and even on the edge of a circle. You are able to release balls at your discretion which means you can have more than one in play at once. This makes the game even more frantic and adds a whole new level of skill.

Don't think the bricks sit still either. Some bricks are stationary, but others move after being hit and some grow or propel themselves around the stage. How do you hit a moving target with a paddle and ball? Well, thanks to the most innovative feature, this isn't a problem in Shatter. Your paddle can send out a burst of air or pull air in like a vacuum which you use to change the trajectory of the ball. If you hold R1 to push, you can even prevent the ball from ever touching your paddle, especially if you've collected a power-up called maneuvera-ball. This feature is what makes Shatter's game play unique and it freshens up the old formula, making the genius boss enemies a thrill to fight.

At only $8 on the Playstation Network, Shatter is a steal. Its mix of new game mechanics and audiovisual flair make Shatter a highly recommendable download.
