Another one of those old school games which you will either hate or appreciate

User Rating: 7.5 | Shadowgrounds PC
Shadowgrounds doesn't have the graphics which will make you go 'wow nice' and it doesn't include a first person perspective. Instead its presentation includes a top-down view. The top down view includes no option to move the camera, but unlike games like Neverwinter Nights 2, you will not have major problems with the camera. Although, you may like the camera or not like the camera. The top-down perspective is a big part of this games game-play and either you really appreciate it or you just don't like it. That should influence your decision on whether to buy the game or not.

With that said, the game-play is fun in an old school type of way. You run around and kill things. There is nothing super complex about it. You will collect weapons which you can upgrade, and when you kill mobs they drop parts that allow you to upgrade your weapons. The weapons are fun to play with and upgrade. They also serve a purpose because the game will throw quite a few enemies your way. If you have the game on a high difficulty you will find yourself sometimes getting into tough spots. But, since the game is rather straight forward you will be able to maneuver your way out of many tough situations without dying. You will be able to go back and gather health packs. You will also be able to kite enemies, and some of the guns have slow down effects to help with that.

The overall game-play is decent to strong depending on how much you appreciate the old-school presentation. If you are looking for a more advanced game with new graphics then you will be disappointed. If you are looking for something old school and cheap, then you will find a decent package with Shadowgrounds.
