Lots of gory fun

Shadow Warrior is the most fun FPS I have played since Bulletstorm. You play as Lo Wang (yes, there will be wang jokes), a corporate enforcer on a quest to retrieve a magical sword called Nobitsura Kage, initially on his boss's orders, and then for other reasons. Lo Wang is accompanied for most of the game by a demonic tag-along called Hoji, and the dialogue between the two can be quite hilarious at times. The game sets a lighthearted tone and contains numerous pop culture references. The action is intense and over-the-top. You will have a variety of ranged weapons at your disposal, but the most fun instrument in your arsenal is the Nobitsura Kage, which allows you to dismember your enemies in a spectacular fashion. Most objects in the game, incidentally, can be damaged or destroyed, as well; if you see a Buddha statue, for example, you can bet you can slice its head off, or shoot it to pieces. I don't believe I have ever played an FPS with such a degree of interactivity. Apart from your weapons, you also have magical powers that allow you to knock your enemies down to the ground or suspend them in midair so you can follow up with an artistic execution. Another power allows you to heal yourself, but only to a certain point; medkits are still imporant. All your weapons, powers and attributes can be upgraded as you progress. There is a decent selection of enemies, each type requiring its own approach, and there is no lack of challenge. What I don't like about the game is that it gets rather repetitive, there aren't as many sword moves as I would like, considering that it is the game's focus, and the locations you visit lack the beauty and variety that distinguished them in Bulletstorm.
