Good game... period

I never played ICO, and i think i will never get to play the game, but when i caught all the fad other people were giving this game, i mean SOTC and comparing it to ICO, i made some effort to read previews about it. Then my friend back those ideas up telling me that it's a game huge in production values... and know what it really did excel in that field.

The visuals are excellent, the place is so huge that it's possible that whatever you see, you can get to. And in this huge realm cradles 16 colossi, yes the monsters you need to face and defeat to actually get to the story. Not much of the story is revealed, even after beating the first half of the bunch SOTC won't even give you a hint why the heck are you killing these innocent ancient monsters. But of course your patience will be rewarded after 10-15 hours of gameplay. As far as enjoyment is concerned, the game gives you alot of replay value, although i may not be a replay type of gamer, i still find SOTC as something that has alot of things to surprise you wtih, given the fact that you will double your patience to actually unlock some of them.

The sound and orchestral effects/background music are topnotch. iWhenever you're in the field trying to find your way to get to the target colossus, you'll hear pretty much nothing. But don't let that pull down your expectations, as this is one of the games that made use of silence to actually set a mood, a calm but somehow near to danger mood. The orchestral music also varies everytime, from the silence of your wandering about to the encounter of a colossus to the revealing of a weak spot.

Although it has high production values, the game for me really didn't catch my attention. The plot is ok but that's about it. it has a twist but it was told almost too late than it should. If there is a major mark down for this game, character development is one factor. If there were puzzles to solve before you fight a monster rather than just finding them by running around, climbing cliffs a bit, or utilizing your horse , that could've raised the bar for me.

Over all it's still an ok-good game nothing much for me to say other than that though. But if i was able to play ICO i may have had a different gameplay experience.
