A great RPG with unique and fun gameplay combines with interesting character and a great storyline an very amazing game.

Shadow Hearts is a classic style RPG with twists, you use a "Judgement Ring" to attack, cast magic, use items, and even get discounts at shops. The judgement ring is a ring with a line on it that appears on your screen the line spins around the ring similar to a clock when it arrived at the yellow spaces you press "X" if you miss your attack fails otherwise you attack the enemy. This system not only is unique in almost every aspect it adds lots of fun to the gameplay. A wide variety of effects in the gameplay with change your judgement ring from going twice as fast or slow to the yellow spaces being twice as small or large, also everyones attacks, abilities, and even items have different spaces you must hit so it might take practice at first.

When you begin you see a few CG sequences and you move around a bit to begin the story, in doing this you find your main character Yuri. Yuri is a harmonizer allowing him to fuse demons souls with his own makeing him able to turn into the demon itself increaseing his efficiency incredibly and he also has a voice which speaks to him and orders him to do things. As it continues Yuri finds the train he is on under attack by a older gentleman named Roger Bacon and demons when he pursues them Bacon attemps to kidnap a girl named Alice. Yuri charges in trying to save her and rescues Alice and Bacon escapes, leaveing the train Yuri's voice tells him to protect the girl so he begins traveling with Alice and thats how the adventure begins.

Shadow Hearts unlike most RPGs is themed with a more twisted or horror effect unlike most RPGs where you are a honorable hero trying to rescue his love interest and save the world from impending doom. Humor is also a substancial part of the theme with various crude humor and various jokes Shadow Hearts can be quite funny at times. Shadow Hearts has a very interesting and exciteing storyline that many game are missing it will keep you not only hooked on the game but it will make you hope you fnd more games like it.

The music of Shadow Hearts is nothing amazing but does its job well, it will keep you entertained and sticks well with the theme and gameplay that you experience. Graphics wise it came out in late 2001 so you cannot expect alot from this PS RPG nowadays. When it first came out though it was very nice and CG sequences were very popular which it has many of, nowadays it is outdated but it still looks good and won't damper your gameing experience what so ever.

If you are interested in starting a great series and you like RPGs this is one of my top choices to play. It will not only entertain you but i assume you will like it alot as i have, It is the first of 3 games so if you enjoy this one the is much more to play in store for you. With little to no faults in this game i would rate it a 9.6 out of 10 and suggest that anyone who enjoys a good game sit down and play through this i promisce you won't be dissapointed.
