In Sentient you need to keep your wits sharp, not your knife - you use your mind, not your trigger finger.

Sentient is an example of the quintessential fantasy RPG Space-Station simulator...a boy and his environment suit, loyal companions (Dawkins!), a dire threat to the world, an eternal romance, and a standard cast of medics, lowlifes, engineers, Gias, drunks, and inbred officers, all set in a landscape of 16-bit filled-polygon graphics that would be at home on the second generation of console machines. That this predictable stage diverges into brilliance is due to the efforts of creators SCEE and the wonderful people at Psygnosis. Filled with some devastating and sometimes wonderfully adult humor, the Sentient saga succeeds not only at portraying an ultimate example of the traditional Space Station RPG, but goes further in lovingly poking fun at itself, even while maintaining a powerful story and mood. The hard-core gamer will revel in the incredible full-on esoteric cut scenes, easily the best seen in a console RPG, the songs, the story, the whole of 'Gia'. Although the mindless 3D 'better-than-thous' will turn their delicate noses up at the nostalgic splendor of Sentient's throwback graphics, for the true game lover, Sentient is beyond being a must-have. Not only the game is stunning....as expected, the amazing Psygnosis has managed to make even the packaging a work of art; and with so many extras, goodies, and bonus materials that one could easily imagine for a moment that one had suddenly been granted an alternate life in space station Icarus itself, and had recently returned from the dead with the kind of love that Garrit has for the aforementioned Gia. Indeed, it is arguable that SCEE's efforts are superior to many of their bigger name competitors and even the most highly promoted of games. In short, if you are an established Garrit-head, you probably already own this, or are working to obtain it, and if you are just a beginner, here is a place to start. The Sentient game is such that it is almost unnecessary to write a review. Of course its great. Go get it.
