This is how a retro games collection should be done.

User Rating: 9 | Sega Genesis Collection PS2
Anyone who has read any of my previous posts about my retro gems will notice they were all produced by Sega for the mega drive console. Well recently I received a copy of the Sega Mega drive collection for the playstation 2 and it definetly does all those classics justice.Sega managed to cram 27 of their most memorable megadrive games onto 1 disc and the quality of the ports are just as good as the originals.
Sonic,Golden axe,Ecco the dolphin and other memorable games are present here but one game which has really captivated me is Phantasy Star IV which was released for the megadrive back in 95'.

Now I never played Phantasy Star IV when I had my Mega Drive but I've been playing it on this collection and it goes without a doubt that it definetly one of the genre defining RPGs which paved the way for so many. Its age shines through but the gameplay is timeless and extremely addicting.
The collection also contains Phantasy Star II and III for those who are more familar with the series than myself.

With this game also being a collection as well that means only the best will get through? I hate to say that thats not the case here. One of the biggest absences and downfalls of this game is the lack of the Streets of Rage series (btw one of my all time favorites) and the Revenge of Shinobi. Now the SOR games didnt make it on beacause Sega didnt want the game to get a teen rating which seems crazy as there is no blood or serious violence in this game (just like all the other games in this collection) and Sega didnt include Revenge of Shinobi because they didnt want a lawsuit battle with D.C Comics (which would have been a small price to pay if the game could have been put on this collection.

When it comes down to the bottom line this collection is still one of the best around regardless of a few absent classics. My one hope is in the near future,Sega release another collection containing the absent games from this collection and a couple more classics.
