One of the top 10 favorites in my collection & of all time.

User Rating: 9.5 | Secret of Evermore SNES
Witty. Unique. Hilarious. Addictive. Massively entertaining. This game did it all. I cant complain on any level with this game. They just dont make them like this anymore. Along with Earthbound and Secret of Mana, this game got me through long nights of no sleep while sitting next to a half empty bag of doritos and a stack of empty coke cans. The gameplay was engrossing as it didnt have the typical combat system of an RPG. Although it didnt share Secrets of Mana's Co-Op game play, it still had real time combat without any subscreens or menus. All inventory and options are accessed via an inventory 'ring' that would pop up when you it the Y button. This temporarily paused the game while you switched weapons or spells , or just changed the behavior of your AI companion. The story takes place at a current time table and follows the advantures of a boy and his dog from the small town of 'Podunk' who get into lots of trouble and mischief after setting off a device in an old abandoned laboratory. The main character and his pet are transported to a make believe world invented by a scientist and it is your goal to try and return home ( all the while you get to uncover an evil plot and rescue other stranded citizens of your small town outside of this dimension ). I classic tale of good vs evil without all that been there done that feel of most games of the same goal. For the SNES the visuals and sounds where top notch. The scripting and puzzle solving where all done extremely well. There is enough variety in every new area to make your trip exciting and new. I never felt like this game was tedious ( until you had to revisit the volcano again later on in the game ). If you have an SNES and you can somehow find this game at a pawn shop or something you should by all means buy it and cherish it forever.
