An old-school brawler that is an absolute joy to play.
The story is about Scott who wants to date the girl of his dreams Ramona Flowers but her seven evil exes stand in his way aswell as some of the bizzare foes you will encounter and by doing that he must fight his way through in old-school style brawling action.
Visually this game is retro at heart its colourful and fluid and has a 8-bit/16-bit style to it witch gives it lots of personality and charm. Some levels even reference older games like Mario, GoldenAxe, Streets of Rage and many other popular titles that will make you laugh or say oh thats awesome dude.
The sound department is also awesome. It has a great soundtrack that mixes NES style music with modern rock music and its actually really catchy and entertaining to listen to and i,am not gonna lie I sometimes find myself humming the tunes from the game.
But this is were the game really shines its gameplay. Its side scrolling beat-em-up action at its finest and you can bring three friends along with you but not online unfortunately instead you can sit in front of the television with your friends witch i,am fine with but it would have been nice if there was an online option. Now back to the gameplay you can do all the moves you would expect in a brawler like punch, kick, jump kick, sweep kick etc, etc and its quite satisfying to beat the crap out of the foes you encounter throughout the game and i have to say that some of the enemies are hilarious and bizzare. you'll fight punks, ninjas, robots, people in dino costumes and many other crazy things and most of them offer a good challenge. The bosses are also very challenging too but are sometimes really frustrating its not enough to blow your top off but it makes you wanna grind your teeth and constantly try again. Theirs also rpg elements to this game aswell as you fight your way through the levels you will level up your character witch is also very satisfying by the way and gain new moves and collect money from your fallen foes to buy health to upgrade your strength, defense, will power and your special moves. Also their are secret rooms were you can buy extra lives and other cool things but it will cost you alot of money.
Scott Pilgrim is probably one of the best downloadable games out there and if you love brawlers as much as i do then you will love this game. Its a funny old-school beat-em-up thats outrageously fun and worth your money and definitely worth your time.
