A very fun an addicting street brawler with a lot of humor and spirit, based on the comic books of Scott Vs the world.

After seeing the movie trailer for Scott Pilgrim Vs the World i got interested in knowing where did that come from, i then knew about the comics (and found the artist on Deviantart) then i knew they are making a game about the comic books that has the same style as the comic books and is a .... street brawler .. damn it .. i knew i had to get it .. considering how crazy and over-the-top the movie and comic books are i knew the game is going to be hilarious and fun ... and it turns out it is even better.

Upon buying the game (after playing the demo for 6 times or more) i got hooked seeing all the references to the original comic books and the gaming/anime culture in general .. it gave the game a lot of spirit and injects a lot of humor into its world ... not to mention the animations and art style amp up that effect even more .. they are a lot of fun to behold (damn the sticky evil smirk on the faces of many enemy goons makes me feel good when i smack them to oblivion).

Gameplay wise it is a very good street brawler .. it has nice prgression and shops to buy items and consumables to help you fight your way through Romana's ex-boyfriends armies of goons and ninjas ... the moves that unlock with every level up really allows you to be creative and pull off spectacular looking moves/combos ... i actually played it on "average joe" difficulty and contrary to what many people say i never had to grind or repeat a level more than once (to collect money or level up faster) .. maybe on higher difficulties (there are two more) but as far as i played (and i'm playing solo) it is balanced just fine.

And story wise the game doesn't give you much details other than Romana flowers is Scott's love and he has to defeat 7 evil Ex-boyfriends of hers to win her love forever (with the help of two of his friends .. who are also members of his band) .. if you want the actual story you have to read the comic books .. the game supposes you already know what's going on .. it doesn't detract from the fun or quality of the game but just don't expect the game to explain anything from what's happening.

Now to part that irks me .. no .. not the lack of online play .. rather people's reaction to it specially Gamespot .. seriously people .. it is not an obligation for every game to have a online mode .. the game is meant to resemble a pure arcade experience and there are many features that work great cause you have your friends around you in the same place (stealing a life from them, cheering up fallen friends, punching each other, lending money to friends) .. playing it with three friends is a blast really and completely overshadows any possible experience from online play which will feel cold and detached IMO, sadly i expected more from Gamespot but they just catered to the vocal public on this one.

It is possible that the vocal group of people who didn't like the lack of online play will make the company add online mode by using some patch but i don't care much about it personally.

The only thing that annoyed me is some minor bugs and unnecessary loading/freezing whenever i want to open the menu in the overworld map ... hope they iron those out with a patch or something .. other than that it is a wonderful game and a must buy for any street brawlers fan who likes to play games with friends the good old way before there was even something called "online".
