An enjoyable tower defense game that just lacks content

Sanctuary is a fun and interesting take on the classic tower defense genre. If you are a fan of tower defense games (go wintermaul!) the underlying premise of Sanctuary will feel very familiar to you.

Sanctuary is played mostly in first person with an option to look at your maze from a birds eye view whenever you want. You build blocks to maze the oncoming creatures and then you build towers within those blocks. If you are like me and you love spamming slow towers you are in luck as there are slow pads that you can build as well. Each tower that you build can be upgraded a maximum of 6 times and the upgrades get quite expensive so you must balance your money accordingly.

Creatures will come in waves but later on waves will start incorporating 2 or more different kinds of creatures. Each creature has a certain ability or strength/weakness which makes things interesting. For example certain creatures only take damage if shot in the head or from behind. Some creatures take extra damage from rapid fire rather than slow powerful shots. Once the waves start mixing in multiple types of creatures it gets more challenging and fun.

Since this is played in the first person you do get a gun that you can fire at the creatures as well. You get 3 different guns a machine gun, sniper rifle, and slow gun. You can upgrade these guns as well if you want to rely more on your gunfire rather than the turrets. The shooting is nothing special however, and I do wish there were more weapons to choose from.

The game looks nice for how cheap it is. When you're on a level the world around you looks well detailed and interesting.

My favorite aspect of the game is the incorporation of coop. Building a maze with your friend is a lot more fun than playing by yourself.

Unfortunately there isn't that much to do in Sanctuary. The levels are limited and once you try everything that's pretty much it. But if you can get this game on sale like I did (Steam for 3.75$) it's pretty much worth every penny. If you enjoy tower defense games, grab a friend and play Sanctuary, you won't regret it.
