Saints Row: The Third is not for everyone. It's only for lovers of over-the-top silliness. Fit that description? Try it!

I tried Saints Row: The Third full of apprehension.

1) It's a gangstah game. Would it irk me with lewd and sexist and homophobic and racist and, most of all, not-funny-at-all jokes?

2) It's an open-world game. Would it let me down with dumb and repetitive quests?

3) It's a modern game... Would it be littered with bugs to the point of being unplayable? Would it leave gaping holes for future DLCs?

Thankfully, my worries were utterly unfounded.

1) This game is SO over-the-top, it's near impossible to take offense at it. Saints Row: The Third does not take anything seriously, especially not itself. You'd do yourself a disservice to take any offensive content at face value.

On the topic of sexism. Not only can you play a girl, the clothes, quests and hairdos are all unisex. I got slightly offended at a quest where the protagonist is drugged and wakes up naked (leaving whatever happened in the meantime to your imagination)... but then a friend who plays male told me he also went through the same disturbing setting (which thankfully turns into an entertaining mission).

Oh and the jokes? Most of them are situation comedy (and god is it silly). The rest is lines that are extremely well-written and well-delivered.

2) This game is choke-full of entertaining content. If general mayhem is what you call entertaining, of course. The extreme variety annihilates repetition.

If you enjoy blowing stuff up and driving at high speed and doing all manners of crazy things, you'll probably be faced with no other tedium than the embarrassment of riches.

3) The developers of Saints Row: the Third do not take anything seriously... except the player's entertainment. You'll find very few obstacles to it. It is a game full of random craziness, but it is crafted with extreme care.

There are glitches of course, but they rarely hamper gameplay... Mostly they are fun.

There is certainly room for DLCs and I'll buy them as soon as they come out, no doubt, but at no time did I feel like "oh, they left that out for a DLC".

If you want bugs, take a look at Skyrim. If you want frustration, take a look at Assassin's Creed.

Do not try Saints Row: The Third unless you want pure over-the-top crazy-mayhem fun. You owe it to yourself to try this game if you do.
