This is a good game but it could have been better with a little bit more work.

User Rating: 8 | S.L.A.I.: Steel Lancer Arena International PS2
S.L.I.A.'s graphics are good but they are kind of a letdown in some parts. For starters the robots look great. They each have their own type of bodies, legs and weapons. However they look almost bland at first with no real character to them other then how they look. That it is until the player gives their robot a paint job. However even then the players paint job options are limited. The player can't make their robot really stand out from the crowd other than equipment and stickers but even those are limited. The real disappointment is when the player is not in combat but in the games primary interface or the overall view of the server that they're on. In this interface the player sees NPCs going about their business but they only really see blobs that look like a human version of MSN messengers little green guy only in different colors. The interfaces for all the games shops don't seem to differ at all from shop to shop.

S.L.A.I.'s locations look great and are pretty diverse with a total of seven different arenas to fight in. Each arena is different in its layout, size, drop points and obstacles. The arenas look good and each arena requires the player to play a little bit differently for each arena. Even the servers that the arenas are based in look different.

S.L.I.A.'s gameplay is fun but repetitive. The basic principle in S.L.A.I. is to destroy your opponents before they kill you. It's a simple concept and one that works rather well. However the player will repeatedly battle in S.L.A.I.'s various locations over and over again with the arenas hardly changing as the player progresses through the games story.

S.L.I.A.'s music is good and diverse. The player can purchase various music tracks to listen to at one of the games many shops. However the music is mostly from bands people may have never even heard of and not from bands that players may be more familiar with.

Overall S.L.A.I. is not for everyone as its gameplay is solely based on the principle of fighting enemies over and over again in the games arenas.
