User Rating: 9.3 | Rumble Roses PS2
From the moment you watch the opening intro, you'll know that this is exactly the game you've been searching for. Now that I've said that, let me make a late preface. This review is based on the perspective that you are a female wrestling fan first and foremost. If you are a video gamer with a tangential interest to female wrestling, then this review will not apply to you. You will likely find the score artificially high. If you are, however, a person that finds powerful good looking females and physically compromising positions exciting, then this review may help fill in the gaps in your questions. The presentation of the game is fantastic. The opening CG is wonderfully detailed and gets you involved in the game immediately. The sound, while limited to the same themes are surprisingly catchy and you'll find yourself humming them and unable to get them out of your head. I've had Yankee Rose stuck in my head since the first time I heard it and I'm still not sick of it. Who know David Lee Roth had it in him! Scary thought! Anyway, back to the review. The graphics are the most "in your face" selling point. I don't think I've ever played a game with so much visual eye candy. All the Roses are striking and sexy and cater to different tastes. Between the disciplinarian teacher Ms. Spencer and sexy evil nurse Anesthesia, there is something for everyone. While the graphics are the first selling point of the game, they are certainly not the last. The "face" and "heel" system is really the most unique addition to the genre of wrestling games and will be something that future forays will have to contend with. The alternate characters do feel a little rushed in some cases, but for the most part it works as a great idea. This system adds a lot more depth to the game and gives you plenty more hours of play time. My only major gripe with the game is that a lot of move sets are similar across characters. This is understandable since there are 22 characters between the faces and the heels, but I can't help but feel it could have been diversified a little more. That said, this is a common problem amongst most wrestling games so it may not have been something that can reasonably be expected from this game. The gameplay is fun and can be fast and furious in the later levels of the story mode. There is the occasional lag in timing, or the opposite where the moves speed up abnormally quickly, but this is rare and hardly a hindrance. What makes this game especially fun is that this is a female wrestling game with beautiful characters who perform all those holds you wish you could be involved with on a regular basis. The game has plenty of scissor holds, sg pins, and other compromising positions to please most female wrestling fans. The humiliation moves are a neat addition as well and while the potential of this wasn't fully realized, it adds a flare and an extra spice to the game. Humiliations are the most devastating finishers which seems absolutely appropriate in light of the rest of the game. I've classified this as a guilty pleasure, because that's what it is to me and I'm sure to other female wrestling fans. Its intrinsic value is far greater than the quality of the game itself. This is also the reason I've given it a tilt of 10. The game also scores well in value, due to all the unlockables. While mud mode, really does not add that much in game excitement, it does add plenty of additional eye candy as the girls get dressed up in cute bikinis and go at it. At the time of writing, I still have plenty left to unlock, so this review may change in the future, but I hope that its provided an adequate understanding of the game. Female wrestling fans rejoice! Our time has come.
