Best so far but still not quite there

After 3 previous failed attempts EA has finally got it right (well sort of). Having both played and watched rugby for many years this was the one sports game I wanted to be true to its cause and EA have persevered.

The problem is that rugby is just a bit too unstrcutured to make into a game so I believe that this game is going to be as good as it gets. The reasons for this are the massive differences between broken play and set pieces which I personally would find unimaginable to code into a game. Random occurances such as knock-ons, off sides (still not great), fouls and the ability to "get away" with something.

The game carries itself well though. Play is free flowing and mimics its real life counter part reasonably well. All the teams are there from Super 12, Guiness Premiership, Celtic League, Tri Nations, World Cup etc. The graphics are solid enough and some of the stadiums look as well as any NFL game Ive seen with the exception of re-used character models. The sounds are hit and miss with the majority of commentary boring you to death and only Grant Fox saves the day with his quick NZ jab.

There is some lastability as well with tournaments etc and a toned down franchise mode. The only negative is that some matches will feel too similar to ones played already - i.e. the exact same tries can be scored repeatedly - further to the above notion that the sport is too unpredictable to code.

Definately worth a look for those seeking an alternative to NFL,NBA,NHL, Football etc.
