Oh yes, that makes a gigantic amount of sense. Don't ever give the media - it pains me that I'm part of it right now - too much credit, whatever you do. Don't expect them to view the bigger picture, as Sony has been doing ever since they entered the video game console market almost 15 years ago. Right, with around 28 million Xbox 360s and around 24 million PS3s out there (those numbers are only estimates based on recent findings), the PS3 is just getting "blown out of the water," especially after launching over a year later and always having the more expensive system. The PlayStation Network, which is still free, continues to make giant strides and in my humble opinion, is currently outstripping Xbox Live. Read that article in full, by the way, before making any rash assumptions.

Sony says there are 25 million active PSN accounts, and just about everyone agrees that Sony's exclusive lineup for the PS3 easily trumps that of the 360. Feel free to look up the titles on tap for the upcoming 12 months; I'm tired of doing it, if you want to know the honest-to-goodness truth. It's so painfully obvious, I'm not going to bother anymore; if you can't figure it out for yourself, you have your own biases to deal with. But the point is this: I believe most will agree that the PS3 really didn't come into its own until 2008, and let's not forget what the sales numbers and software lineup was like in 2007. Therefore, in about two years time, with the most expensive console on the market, even in a freakin' recession, the PS3 has somehow managed to - shock of shocks - not die. In fact, it has only managed to close the gap, which it will likely continue to do. Of course, it will remain behind the 360 for longer if Sony doesn't drop the price, but what are we really talking about here? A difference of 4-5 million units? That's the catalyst for this sudden outpouring of anxiety-ridden pleas?

You know, it's almost as if the Sony haters found something negative to latch onto and are once again trying to make something out of nothing. They had plenty of ammunition for the first year of the PS3's existence - let's face up to facts - but as each drawback began to disappear and people started to have difficulty locating bullets, the naysayers ran and hid. They never go far, though. No, they hide behind a tree, peeking around the corner and waiting for another piece of rubbish to float down the river. Then they'll jump on it and gleefully proclaim it came from Sony, and "something must be done." Right. Fine. You keep doing that. Sony will drop the price of the PS3 at some point, so just stop worrying, and in the meantime, let's actually examine the current situation for what it is. Hell, at this point, I think people might actually pay the old $600 just for a shot at playing God of War III.

...look closely at that last sentence. It's only one example of many I could make, and so could you.

Few weeks ago they gave the outlier and the old school emblem to most of us, and now the ones we have are gone. Gamespot seems to be having problems with emblems big time.

I hope they'll find a solution soon, or is it that they are taking three of my emblems and giving me the Addicted emblem

Thu, 31 May 2007 00:07:01 -0700 Gamespot Firefox Search Plugin http://www.gamespot.com/users/uchitha/show_blog_entry.php?topic_id=m-100-25016081 I was so bored i decided to make Gamespot Firefox Search Plugin... so here it is, but since i can't host it in the gamespot website you have to install it manually.

Don't worry its very easy,

Step 1: Download the following file,

é

Click Here to Download the normal search, or copy and paste the following URL on brower's address bar

http://geocities.com/au22r/gs_searchplugin.zip

é

Click Here to Download the explicit tags search, or copy paste the following URL on browser's address bar

http://geocities.com/au22r/gs_searchplugins_tags.zip

The tags search is a seperate search plugin, installing that will only search for tags. If you like you can install both or one of them.

Step 2: Extract the files into the following directory

C:/Program Files/Mozilla Firefox/searchplugins

Assuming you've installed Firefox in C: drive Program Files, if you've installed it some where else locate the Firefox directory and then extract the files into "Searchplugins" folder.

Step 3: Restart the browser (Close Firefox and then start it again)

Congratulations ! You should now be able to see Gamespot under Firefox Search !

have fun

Sun, 27 May 2007 12:15:27 -0700 The Success of Wii http://www.gamespot.com/users/uchitha/show_blog_entry.php?topic_id=m-100-25011778

As the battle between three consoles continue Nintendo Wii shows remarkable sales beating almost any entertainment device in the market. Both Sony's PS3 and Nintendo Wii were released almost together and the most anticipated Playstation 3 was a disappointment for most of the people. The other surprising factor is the specifications of all three console, which clearly leave Wii far behind. The idea of a gaming console generally depends on how much it can output the amount of graphics, sound, availability of games and etc...

When analysing the stats of the previous month (April 2007), total sales were $839 million and Nintendo had been able to sell 360,000 units each $250 compared to the 82,000 units of PS3s and 174,000 units of Microsoft's Xbox 360s. This clearly shows the market leadership of Wii, accounting over 50% of the sales. So i decided to write something about the success of Wii.

  • Range of creative possibilities
  • Something for everyone
  • Less price
  • Wife-o-meter

The only significant part of the Wii is the motion sensing controllers which was more powerful than ultimate graphics, sound and all that. Although, Sony nicely stole the idea and came up with a motion sensing controller it wasn't good enough to beat the innovator. The game developers realized the true potential of this and created games for people to have a whole new experience of playing video games.

Games are games, you cannot make people live in it or see it as the real life no matter what. Nintendo realized this fact and created the console which will have something for the whole family even a kiddo can play and have fun with it. The rise of more advance games push many people out and leave a bunch of geeks to enjoy video games but Wii on the other hand provides an fun controller to play, you don't need learn anything to play tennis because anyone with bit of common sense would know how to swing the racket to hit the ball. According to the creators the age group is defined from 5 to 95 and its evident that regardless of the age, everybody just loves Wii and it also has something for everyone.

éThey started the trend and they still know better than anyone else, playing games is not the most important part of the life and people are not willing to pay for advance entertainment systems. Wii is something everybody can afford and have enough amount of fun.é

This is the most interesting part, a game creator of the company known as Shigeru Miyamoto has said that his wife had started playing Wii all of a sudden, and now she is challenging him that she can beat him at this game. The truth is she actually can, he had also said that "if we can convert my wife, then we can convert anyone".é

Wed, 02 May 2007 09:24:45 -0700 One of the best games ever, The Freespace http://www.gamespot.com/users/uchitha/show_blog_entry.php?topic_id=m-100-24982434 Since I mentioned about the Freespace in my previous entry I thought of writing the story of it. The game was developed by Volition, Inc. and published by Interplay. The first game was released in 1998 and was known as Descent: Freespace but due to the conflict with the company's previously released game Decent the name was later changed into Freespace: The great war.

It's a complete space simulation computer game which was never released for any consoles. There have only been two games but the first game had an expansion pack as well.

Freespace: The Great War

Freespace: Silent Threat

Freespace 2

However, with the availability of FRED (Freespace Editor) the users also can create maps and after releasing the source code of the game Freespace 2 in 2002, the game has been developed as an Open Source Project also known as FS2Open. Ever since the code was released there have been many releases of campaigns created by the open source communities.

é

The Story of The Great War

During the whole game the player acts as a pilot of the GTA (Galactic Terran Alliance) in 2335. According to the game the universe has been divided into several sections or areas and names have been given, such as Altair, Epsilon Pegasi and Beta Aquilae; these are also known as star systems and each of these have at least one Jump Node, although the exact creators of these Jump Nodes are unknown the GTA believes the Ancients are the creators.

GTA Star Chart

é

The Ancients have been the most powerful in the universe and their technology has been very advance, far beyond than the GTA. However, the Ancients are no longer to be found in the universe and the destructing of such powerful group is yet to be discovered.

The GTA believes that there are more star systems but because of the unavailability of the Jump Nodes the GTA has not been able to visit those. Well moving back to the story the biggest problem of the GTA is the PVE (Parliamentary Vasudan Empire);

they have been fighting each other for over fourteen years now. They both control their own territories in the universe and the respective star systems are controlled by them. The game is so complex that it describes in detail of every ship and weapon they've been using and newly developed weapons and ships are been released as the game continues.

In the middle of a war between Terrans and Vasudans a new type of unknown species appears and starts attacking both of them. The problem doesn't end here; it gets worst when both GTA and PVE find out that their weapons are not capable of penetrating the shield system of the these new species and they were called Shivans.

Shivans have a large fleet of ships and they're been led by a mighty ship called SD Lucifer. However, the Terrans develop new technologies to meet the challengers of the Shivans but Shivan's superior technology had created more advance shielding system for their main ship, SD Lucifer.

In the mean time a group of Vasudans called the Hammer of Light tries to create an alliance with the Shivans and begins attacking both GTA and PVE. The Vasudans were soon becoming weaker under massive attacks of Shivans and finally the Vasuda Prime (Home of the Vasudans) was destroyed by the Shivans.

A GTA Ship

A PVE Ship

A Shivans Ship

The Shivans start attacking into the deep space of the GTA and tries to reach the Earth, by this time the GTA had lost many star systems and their ships along with the crew. The final few missions of The Great War is a chase of the SD Lucifer which is heading towards the earth and the effort to destroy it before it reaches the earth. Although, the Lucifer cannot be destroyed by the weapons and the technology of the GTA, they manage to destroy it's reactors while it was travelling through a subspace portal.

é

The story of Silent Threat

There isn't much of a story here, but it fits well in to the main story line. The Great War ends with the destruction of the SD Lucifer, one of the greatest achievements in the history of the GTA. But the explosion of the Lucifer caused the Sol Jump Node to be collapsed, which was the only link between the earth and other star systems.

GTI Hades

é

The silent threat begins after this; a rouge branch of the GTA called GTI (Galactic Terran Intelligence) tries to overthrow the GTA government in Delta Serpentis. The GTI tries to use both GTA and the Shivans technology to develop their ships and weapons against GTA. The GTI builds a new type of a super type destroyer called GTI Hades. However, the campaign ends with the destruction of the GTI and it's super type destroyer GTI Hades.

é

The story of Freespace 2

A surprising start; after the destruction of the Sol jump node, thirty two years have passed. The GTA and PVE have joined together forming a new alliance called GTVA (Galactic Terran Vasudan Alliance). However, the merger of the Terrans and the Vasudans were not very pleasing for a group of people called them selfs NTF (Neo Terran Front), they've been seperated by the GTVA, and it was led by a pilot called Admiral Aken Bosch who worked with GTI and joined GTVA after the destruction of the GTI. While the fights between GTVA and the NTF continue, the GTVA finds out a huge device called Knossos. GTVA suspects this device was developed by the Ancients and can be used to generate portals, the discovery of the Knossos brought a new hope for the Terrans who have been trying to find a way to create a link between the earth ever since the Sol jump node was destroyed.

Under immense attacks of the GTVA, the Admiral Bosch flees into the deep space in his newly created ship called NTF Iceni. It was later found that Admiral Bosch had been successful in his objectives of trying to work with the Shivans and was taken onboard by the Shivans, the reasons remain unknown.

The GTVA going after the device Knossos jumps into a star system known as Nebula, which was filled with the Shivans. While the fights between Shivans and GTVA continues, the GTVA finds out a new super type destroyer of the Shivans called SJ Sathanas.

GTVA Colossus

é

However, by this time the GTVA had learned a lesson from the previous destroyer SD Lucifer and had developed a new destroyer called GTVA Colossus. This massive destructor had been a joined development of both races. The six kilometers long Colossus had taken over twenty years to build and was known as the biggest destroyer built ever.

The Shivans continue their attacks against GTVA with their super type destroyer SJ Sathanas but with the help of some bombers the GTVA Colossus successfully destroys the Shivans main warship. The achievement didn't last longer; the GTVA intelligence finds out that SJ Sathanas was not the only ship instead there were dozens more. Under continues attacks of the Shivans the GTVA Colossus gets destroyed while trying to buy time for the rest of the GTVA to flee into the space.

As GTVA flees into the space they seal the Capella star system preventing Shivans from following them by exploding their last Orion type destroyer, the GTA Baston which was used case the SD Lucifer in the last great battle. However, at the end over 60 SJ Sathanas type juggernauts make the Capella star go supernova; but just before the star explodes some of the juggernauts escape into some unknown place.

é

This is where a great story comes to an end leaving the doubt in the player's mind. As for me, I consider it was one of the best games all time, but sadly after the release of the Freespace 2 the Volition, Inc. stopped their releases with Interplay and a next version was never released.

Tue, 01 May 2007 00:59:58 -0700 The story matters http://www.gamespot.com/users/uchitha/show_blog_entry.php?topic_id=m-100-24980873 Well truly I haven't played many games over the years but ever since I got the chance of playing games I have played some superb games; starting from Dave, Prince of Persia and Wolfenstein 3D to the latest of PC games.

Wolfenstein 3D

Although, the latest games have awesome graphics, sound and all that, most of them are missing one important factor and that is the story. I just finished playing F.E.A.R Extraction Point (expansion of F.E.A.R) the story begins with the rescue helicopter (taken off at the end of the F.E.A.R) crash landing into some building and trying to move to the extraction point. It may be an expansion but it has 6 levels with sub levels in each Interval.

It's like watching a movie with all the realistic special effects, graphics and sound but without a story. There are games that come with good stories but think about a game like Mafia: The City of Lost Heaven ,

Mafia Sceernshot

I fell in love with that game and I played it for years and I still like to play it. I almost ended up crying at the end because I felt as if I was living in the game when I first played it. Unfortunately most of these games never released a second version of it, in a way it's good than releasing a game for the sake.

The game developers are more concerned of the graphics, visual effects and sound for them it's about competing with one another than trying to think of a good story line. I personally wouldn't bother seeing great graphics because we all know that it's a game and the most important part of it is the experience that we get.

Freespace screenshot

Take Freespace for instance, some people may not even have heard of this, but it's the best simulation game I've ever played. The story goes on and on and when one our main ship gets destroyed, you feel as if you lose something yours.

It's time the game developers try to think of the innovativeness than just sticking to the usual gaming fashion, where you walk out of the home and you notice some creates then you kill about thousand of those and finally get to a restaurant which is about five hundred kilometers away.

Tue, 17 Apr 2007 11:01:51 -0700 Battle Of The Giants http://www.gamespot.com/users/uchitha/show_blog_entry.php?topic_id=m-100-24964185

The software giants Microsoft and Adobe have announced two softwares each battling against one another's existing software.

Microsoft Silverlight vs. Adobe Flash

Adobe Media Player vs. Windows Media Player

é

Microsoft Silverlight

[ Watch Video ]

This is a direct competitor to the successful Flash Player which was originally released by Macromedia but then later acquired by the Adobe. The Flash content and the player has already invaded half of the Internet and runs on over 90% of the Internet users. Almost every website uses Flash content even at Gamespot and companies like YouTube completely relies on Flash.

Microsoft has been developing this application for the past two years and a downloadable version is available for the developers. According to Microsoft the Silverlight is a light weight application that runs on most of the web browser and on various operating systems including (Macs and Portable Devices). Capable of playing advance video which is backed by the most popular WMV format and suppose to be far better in video playback than the existing Flash player and Quicktime.

Moreover, the Silverlight can play up-to 720p resolution which is equivalent to the HD-DVD and Blu-ray qualities. Another tool is also planned to be released to the market called Expression, which can be used to create Silverlight content. It looks like the Silverlight is targeted more on the video side and will truly be a competitor to the Flash player. The Gamespot might also change existing Windows Media Player to Silverlight, and that will be a good change as well.

é

Adobe Media Player

While Microsoft prepares to take over the web, Adobe plans to capture the media player market. Adobe announced Adobe Media Player a direct competitor to the Windows Media Player, the player is capable of playing all most all the media formats including Flash files as well. The player supports DRM and the first of its kind to offer RSS subscriptions. Adobe plans to release the player free of charge and it'll have maximum support to all the Adobe products including Flash and Premier.

é

However, it will not be easy for both the products to beat the existing products due to their massive usage; but it will surely be able to reduce the number of uses. As the battles continue between giants like the Console Wars and High Definition (HD) media we will have to have all of that to get the complete experience.
