Sun, 24 Jun 2012 07:05:15 -0700 But I Have Returned http://www.gamespot.com/users/kingkilla3/show_blog_entry.php?topic_id=m-100-25987763 I'm not sure anyone outside of a few people knew I was away, and I don't expect anyone to be that interested in where I am, but I have returned. I think I watched more than eighty movies while I was away. I would list them, but my computer broke and half the list's on the hard drive (which still works). The other half of the list is written on paper and I haven't copied it yet. I should have a new (laptop) computer in about a month. I do have a list of all the games I've finished this year. This list is simpler than it will be when I get a new computer and the rest of the list off the hard drive. I've played a few other games a lot but these are just games with main story modes.

  1. Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory [PS3]
  2. inFamous [PS3]
  3. Mass Effect [PC]
  4. Crash Bandicoot 2: Cortex Strikes Back [PS1]
  5. Mass Effect 2 [PC]
  6. God of War III [PS3]
  7. Mass Effect 3 [PC]
  8. Metal Gear Solid [PS1]
  9. Yakuza 3 [PS3]
  10. Fallout 3 [PS3]
  11. Metal Gear Solid 4 [PS3]
  12. Resistance: Fall of Man [PS3]
  13. Resistance 2 [PS3]
  14. Resistance 3 [PS3]
  15. Sly Raccoon [PS3]
  16. Sly 2: Band of Thieves [PS3]
  17. Sly 3: Honour Among Thieves [PS3]
  18. inFamous 2 [PS3]
  19. Dragon Age II [PS3]

The next will probably be Final Fantasy XIII-2.

Yakuza 3 [PS3]- 12th(?) of December 2010 to 27thof March

And now the current ones:

Chrono Trigger
I'm still "playing" this because I've temporarily stopped for some reason. I'll be staying at my mother's house again soon so I'll get back to it then. I think I'm near the end anyway. My main three characters are Crono, Marle and Frog.

Resistance 3
I only recently finished this, so I'll allow it on here. Resistance 3 is definitely my favourite of the Resistance series. I liked the previous ones but the third just stood out for me most. The first two were more military-based and the third is just one person killing beyond a thousand enemies because he's just invincible and overpowered like that. Resistance 3 doesn't even have auto recharging health! Maybe it's more common to go without it than I think, but I was surprised to have to look for health everywhere. It was appealing.

Turok: Dinosaur Hunter
I just played the first level of this because I felt like it. It's far from a modern FPS, but its older style is not something I think that much about after I play for a while. Nothing has to "age badly".

Turok2012-04-1521-39-46-57.jpg
This dinosaur really is hungry.

Turok2012-04-1521-44-27-09-1.jpg
He's calling customer service for his bleeding hat.

I think I'll try some Resistance 3 online multiplayer and then play either Vanquish or Sly Raccoon next.

That is all.

Any chance anyone can recommend musicals (in movie form)? Or dance (in music form)?

That is extra.

That is all.

Thu, 19 Apr 2012 06:27:44 -0700 Going Through My GS Avatars Part 4 http://www.gamespot.com/users/kingkilla3/show_blog_entry.php?topic_id=m-100-25980712 I said I'd keep doing this, so it must be done. Part four starts with number 18:

Quorthon
18. Quorthon of the band Bathory.
Yes.

Elton John
19. A part of the cover of "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road" by Elton John.
GYBR was my first Elton John album and I thought that the picture of him on the cover would look good as an avatar. I think I had problems with the right level of colour saturation.

Don Quixote
20. A part of the cover of one edition of "Don Quixote" (an English translation).
I had recently bought the book along with "In Cold Blood" and "The Master and Margarita" (which I'll get to), and, again, I just liked the look of it.

The Master and Margarita
21. A part of the cover of one edition of "The Master and Margarita" (an English translation).
Looking back on it, I wish I had gone for a different picture of the cat Behemoth. This one was made to look like a mask.

Freddie Mercury
22. One of the later photos of Freddie Mercury.
"Looking back on it, I wish I had gone for a different picture of" Freddie Mercury. Maybe I could have chosen one from when he had long hair.

Queen
23. Some of the cover of Queen's self-titled debut album.
Oh, wait, I did choose an older one, unless that happens to be the photographers assistant or something.

Freddie Mercury
24. A part of the video for "I'm Going Slightly Mad".
This one was made for me by someone who might prefer not to be named. I still use this one on TV.com (unless the now-CBS god has consumed it). It's also the only avatar I've had that isn't still frame.

Windflowers
25. A part of "Windflowers" by John William Waterhouse, who was a painter and not a musician (but if he were a musician then this picture clearly indicates brutal death metal).
This is from what at least used to be my favourite painting. I should find out if it still is.

That's that done for now. Listen to this very heavy metal songand be surprised.

Mon, 26 Mar 2012 07:59:36 -0700 Games I've Been Playing http://www.gamespot.com/users/kingkilla3/show_blog_entry.php?topic_id=m-100-25977697 I'm sure there's something else I should be writing instead of this. Anyway, here's what I've been playing recently.

Yakuza 3
My first Yakuza game. I started it in December 2010 and quite liked it. I bought it last year (after renting) but I still haven't finished it because of other games getting in the way. The combat can be a little repetitive but it's relatively uncommon compared to the long, long cutscenes. Well, they're not an hour long, but they're still pretty long. There are numerous side quest that are mostly just more combat and picking up keys off the ground. I've started the last chapter and I'm hoping to finish it on either Tuesday or Wednesday.

Metal Gear Solid 4
There are a few annoyances in this one (in cutscenes actually), but I can ignore them as they're only minor. I finally played and finished the first MGS recently and liked it though it did feel dated at first. I'm not fully sure of what to think of MGS4 yet. I'm up to "Act 2" and so far it may be my least favourite in the series. I'll have to see what happens next.

Chrono Trigger
One of a few non-Pok mon DS games I've got that I wanted to get to at some point. Broken headphones and needing to avoid using the Internet too much for two days led me to playing it. I'm pleased to be playing a game like this again. I did start it a few years ago but got stuck (somehow). I didn't get stuck this time and now I'm really liking it. It's surprising how fresh it feels after seventeen years.

Killzone 3
Not my favourite Killzone for multiplayer but that doesn't mean I don't like it. I've been playing it on and off since the game's release last year. I can do well at my best and not so well at my worst, unlike Foolz3h in Killzone 2. I use the infiltrator cIass but I sometimes use tactician for Warzone mode.

That is all. I didn't even use the word "interesting".

13. Peter Sellers as Dr. Strangelove in Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb.
Another image from one of my favourite movies, which I actually haven't watched in almost five years. I really should watch it again.

14. Max Schreck as Count Orlok in Nosferatu, the sneaky Dracula adaptation.
I'm not sure if I liked the movie or not, I just liked the look of Orlok.

15. Rowan Atkinson as Edmund Blackadder in series 2 of Blackadder.
I think I started using this one when I came home from my mother's house after having watched the four series of Blackadder. I don't know why I chose this version of him because my favourite series at the time was the first.

16. The cover of "Transylvanian Hunger" by Darkthrone.
This is one of my filler avatars. I've never even heard the album, I just liked the cover. I have got their previous album though.

17. A part of one of the images from the booklet of "At the Heart of Winter" by Immortal. Abbath.
An unintentionally amusing picture. Here's the full picture. I like the music too.

Remember any of these ones? Known me for a long time and remember all of them?

I played it on PC, though I first played it on Xbox 360. I'll soon play Mass Effect 2 so that I can have a new save ready for ME3. I did this with ME2 last year when I played and now here is my ME version. These are my Mass Effect adventures:

4. A part of a picture of guitarist "The Great Kat".

This is one I'll probably never use again. If you want to know why I had it, ask my 17 year old self. I think I thought it was amusing.

5. Frieza from Dragon Ball Z.

This one is of my favourite character from DBZ. I've recently started watching the series again (in Japanese this time) and it's good to see all the things I forgot. This is one of my favourite avatars I've used.

6. A Photoshop Elements-ed section of a picture of some earth and tree roots.

I took the original photo while I was staying at my grandparents' house in Whangaparaoa. I don't know if I still have the original version or not.

7. I don't know.

This was modified like the last picture but I don't know what it originally was.

8. Some of a tree.

At my mother's house I think.

9. An avatar of (presumably) Dave Mustaine made by RK-Mara.

I got this one in a PM (Prime Minister) in 2008 from the one named above. One of only two avatars I didn't make, modify or choose. This is one I could use again.

10. The cover of the self-titled Run-D.M.C. album.

Why not?

11. Kuma from Tekken.

I "stole" this from Zeromus1337 when he stopped using it because I liked it. It probably drank some Bearshine before the picture was taken.

12. Clint Eastwood in The Good, the Bad and the Ugly (and not The Good, the Bad, the Weird).

I just liked the look of it and it's from one of my favourite movies.

And that is all for now. How many do you recognise?

I want to post my thoughts on all the avatars I've had and my reasons for using them. It could be interesting for me and probably for anyone who cares enough to be interested in my GS history. Here are a few:

1. Al Pacino as Tony Montana in Scarface.

This is one of my longest lasting avatars from back in 2007. Scarface used to be my favourite movie and I liked the imagery. I had another one for TV.com or some other GameSpot affiliated website (the now nonexistent MovieTome I think). I know a few people will remember this one. I occasionally went back to it for a little while. Maybe I'll use it again someday.

2. The cover of "Nellyville" by Nelly.

I think I just ran out of ideas before I had them. I still like the album though.

3. A fraction of the cover of "Demigod" by Behemoth.

I liked the album cover and thought that it had a strange look. Having that face as my avatar amused me.

That's all for now. I should be able to go through all of them eventually (there are more than 30).

Mon, 30 Jan 2012 05:04:09 -0800 My Most Wanted Games of 2012 http://www.gamespot.com/users/kingkilla3/show_blog_entry.php?topic_id=m-100-25970931 Here's something I think I should write. If I succeed in writing this then you will be reading this right now.

Games of 2012.

Looks like it'll be an interesting (my one adjective) year for games.

Mass Effect 3 has been my most wanted game of the year since I played Mass Effect 2 two times in a row (because I wanted to fix some things) in July and August. I've started playing Mass Effect again, but on PC (I first played it on Xbox 360) this time. When I first played ME I had an old SDTV and couldn't easily see the text from where I was sitting. I didn't even finish the game until I got a new TV. I'm actually a little unsure about ME3 after ME2. I have a feeling that it won't be as character based as ME2. I liked getting to know so many characters, but ME3 looks like it's going to be more story based like the first one (but maybe I just missed a lot of the character stuff. I didn't even know romance was in it until I played ME2).

A Mass Effect loading screen.

Final Fantasy XIII-2 is second, or at least I think it is. I doubt it'll be my second favourite, but it's my second most wanted. I liked FFXIII, especially the battle system which is one of my favourites in the series (once it properly gets going). I don't know how much my favourite characters will be in it (Sazh, Vanille, Fang) if at all, but that shouldn't matter too much.

Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch (or whatever it'll end up being called) is third. I have to be interested in a game made by Level-5 who made Dark Chronicle, and Studio Ghibli who made some of my favourite movies (My Neighbour Totoro, Whisper of the Heart, Howl's Moving Castle).

BioShock Infinite looks appealing with its sky city. The gameplay video I've makes it look like it could be very enjoyable. I still have to play BioShock 2 though (not that it's necessary).

The Last Guardian is on my list though I've haven't played Ico or Shadow of the Colossus, which I plan on playing first.

Grand Theft Auto V. Maybe I'll like it as much as III.

Star Wars: The Old Republic is an unusual game for my list as it's an online game (mumorpuger). y u do dis bioware. Fortunately for me I played Skyrim for only about 150 hours before stopping (for now). KotOR and its sequel are two of my favourite games, so it's very likely I'll like this one. y u do dis bioware.

Tekken Tag Tournament 2 is the sequel to my favourite Tekken game, so I'm definitely interested. I've ordered Tekken Hybrid so that I can get back into Tekken. Also because I don't have any fighting games on PS3 (not including the "free" PS Plus Street Fighter games). My favourite character? King. I'll see if that changes though.

Metal Gear Solid: Revengeance. Ridiculous name, curious game.

SoulCalibur V is another fighting game I'm interested in. I was a little disappointed in the fourth though.

Yakuza: Dead Souls. I should finish 3 first maybe.

Ninja Gaiden III. I liked the first one, didn't play the second, I'll probably play the third.

The Darkness II. I liked the first one, I'll probably play the second.

Kingdoms of Amalur: Subtitle Goes Here is the only one on the list that's completely new to me, so I'll see. There are others I could put on the list like this, but this is the one that stands out most.

Now back to whatever it was I was doing before. Oh, and here's a picture of me looking into the distance (or at some random object that happens to be where I'm looking).

Movies (in order from favourite to least favourite, but it gets hard to keep it accurate after a while):

  1. Catch Me If You Can
  2. Memento
  3. Ip Man
  4. Alice [miniseries]
  5. Ip Man 2
  6. Everything Must Go
  7. Bunny and the Bull
  8. The Last Circus
  9. The Departed
  10. The Hangover Part II
  11. Bunraku

  13. Eden Is West
  14. Way of the Dragon
  15. Animal Crackers
  16. Star Trek [2009]
  17. Once Upon a Time in the West
  18. Zatoichi
  19. Kiss Kiss Bang Bang
  20. Cemetery Junction
  21. The House of the Devil
  22. Youth in Revolt
  23. The Curse of the Jade Scorpion
  24. Survive Style 5+
  25. Hollywood Ending
  26. Ip Man: The Legend Is Born
  27. Super
  28. Infernal Affairs
  29. Enter the Dragon
  30. The Hangover
  31. West Side Story
  32. Howl
  33. Pulse
  34. Mambo Italiano
  35. Sukiyaki Western Django
  36. Ong-Bak

  44. Ring
  45. Horse Feathers
  46. Predicament

  48. Dan in Real Life
  49. Tristram Shandy: A Cock & Bull Story
  50. Don't Look Now
  51. The Boys from Brazil
  52. The Dinner Guest
  53. The Pink Panther [1964]
  54. Hero [2002]
  55. New York, I Love You
  56. The Green Hornet [1966] (the DVD case made it look like a movie, but it's a TV series)
  57. Mala Noche
  58. Mutant Girls Squad (why did I watch this?)

I ended up watching many movies in English, six in Cantonese, two in French, seven in Japanese, one in Mandarin, one in Russian, one in Spanish, one in Thai, and one in languages including Greek, German, English and French.

I finally started watching anime series too (not including the ones I saw on TV when I was younger). I watched the first season and fourteen episodes of the second season of School Rumble (definitely my favourite), all of Midori Days, the first season of Love Hina, the first season of (The) Slayers (the DVD case said "The Slayers" but Wikipedia doesn't), and all of Excel Saga. It should be interesting to find more to watch, or at least it should be interesting to watch what I find.

I bought WWE '12 and played through all of "Road to WrestleMania" and did some other things. Still trying to figure out how to unlock Goldust (my favourite wrestler), but now that I've got the Internet to use again it shouldn't be hard to find out how.

I also played through Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory HD and, now that I've played through the first three SC games again, I can say that it's my favourite with the first game second. I finished off inFamous which I got from after PSN was down. Enjoyable game.

I bought music by Kreator, Testament, Wu-Tang Clan, The Coup, Billy Idol and probably some other band. And I listened to a lot of DJ Ozma. I wonder what my 16 year old self would think.

Andandand I've been reading Simon Pegg's autobiography. Now I want to try some more autobiographies.

I think that's about everything I have to say.

How go things?

Steams says I've played 139 hours of Skyrim. It's strange to think it's been about a month since I got the game. It's bound to be my game of the year. I want to slow down on it once I've finished the Dark Brotherhood quests and the main quest. The other game I've been playing is Rayman Origins, which is quite a big game with more than 60 levels. Also, buy it. And Skyrim, but you probably knew that already.

Here are the PS3 games I should play or finish:

And the rest of my games:

As I'm getting back into watching WWE, I will leave you with this video of the greatest wrestler of all time. He is none other than

the

SHOCK

MASTER!

But really, these two are my favourites.

Wabbajack. http://www.gamespot.com/users/kingkilla3/show_blog_entry.php?topic_id=m-100-25961802 Just under 90 hours in now. That's not all on one playthrough though. I started as a Redguard then switched to a High Elf for some reason. I'm nearing level 50 too. Wabbajack. Wabbajack. Wabbajack. Pictures here. Wabbajack. Click to see bigger versions. Wabbajack.

My favourite book in Skyrim. This is a close second. Wabbajack. Wabbajack.

I almost expect it to come alive and laugh along with everything else in the room.

Lazy carpenters.

Such an inviting bed.

I can't remember if this horse's death was from a long fall or from getting in the way of my fire.

This chicken is always sitting on the path to the College of Winterhold. I like to think of it as the College's mascot.

At least they died together.

Wabbajack. Wabbajack.

Today (yesterday, really) I bought some games on Steam from the Autumn Sale. (It's spring here but it feels like autumn sometimes.) Mass Effect, Psychonauts, Trauma, Armed and Dangerous, and Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee. If only I didn't have Skyrim to play instead.

Much has happened since last time I played. Steam says I've played for 62.9 hours. I am at level 36. I haven't done much of the story. I am a bowman (bowwoman?) and I also use various magicks on the side. Sanguine Rose is a good friend. (Click images for bigger versions.)

As soon as I had made a new family in these orcs who made me "blood-kin", a dragon comes along and kills half of them. At least I got the forging gloves back. That's the chief lying dead on the ground.

I came across this man and another one not in the screenshot. I had just told them and two others to get out of a mine and this is where two of them went. Suicide? A nice relaxing swim? New job in fishing?

This wizard has quite a wall.

My biggest fight so far: two dragons and two bears at once. I won of course.

I hope those clothes are warm.

And that's it for now. Any other high elves here?

I remember when I first played Morrowind in December 2004. I didn't like it. I ended up liking it when I tried the GotY version months later.

As I said yesterday, I have chosen a female high elf. This female high elf specialises in magic (obviously) and keeps a bow on the side. Magic's a lot more fun that I thought it would be.

Here are pictures (click to see bigger version):

Llrewai the high elf.

Who's there?
