Luigi is a man who is used to living in his brothers shadow. Most of the time he is confined to supporting roles in Mario's adventures or is just one of numerous characters in the likes of Mario Kart and the Mario sports games. If Luigi's mansion 2 is anything to go by though, then Nintendo should give him the limelight more often. Luigi's has taken his chance to star with both hands in a game that plays to his strengths.

Luigi is scared and timid on the outside but courageous on the inside and Luigi's mansion 2 showcases both of these sides to his character. The story is simple: the dark moon that prevents all the ghosts in Evershade valley from getting up to no good has been destroyed so Professor E Gadd has called in Luigi, who has experience in this sort of thing from the first Luigi's mansion, to find the pieces of the dark moon. Armed with his poltergust 5000, Luigi must enter the mansions in the valley, capture the ghosts running amok and find the dark moon pieces. This is, of course, easier said than done. The ghosts are hidden everywhere and Luigi is afraid of everything. His inner courage ensures he presses on but ghosts popping out of suits of armour and much more seriously tests his resolve. The environment is full of objects to interact with and suck up with the poltergust providing a strong feeling of exploration. One of the game's greatest strengths however is its humour. Luigi cowers and quivers at the slightest thing and he is fantastically brought to life by the voice of Charles Martinet. There are plenty of comedy moments throughout too, especially those involving Professor E Gadd's toad assistants who are even more afraid than Luigi. Next Level Games have recognised that Luigi is not the hero that Mario is and thankfully constructed the games narrative and style to reflect this.

Each of the games five mansions vary in theme from a clock mansion to an ice mansion but they all share in the fact that they have a wonderful contrast between the ghosts and the environments. The mansions themselves are dark and foreboding with effective use of lighting whilst the ghosts are brightly coloured and mischievous with grinning faces. This design works well and makes the ghosts stand out from the dark backgrounds that maintain a feel of being threatening. The ghosts are the real danger of course though and if Luigi is hit by them too much he will die. The sound design of the game is top notch too. The ghosts are given character with laughs and other sound effects and music is also effectively used to further the game's scary but light-hearted tone.

In order to capture ghosts and find the pieces of the dark moon Luigi has three pieces of kit provided by Professor E Gadd. The first and most important is the Poltergust 5000. This is used to suck up or blow out interactive elements of the environment and more importantly ghosts. First a ghost must be stunned by the second piece of Luigi's kit, the strobulb. Once this has been done a tug of war like process commences as you pull on the thumb pad in the opposite direction to the ghost until it is captured. This mechanic provides a tactile feel to ghost catching and works well with no control or design issues. It is also great fun. Luigi's third piece of kit is the darklight. This is used to illuminate hidden objects or doorways among other things. It becomes increasingly important as you progress and must be used in more challenging ways. All of Luigi's kit works well and is fun to use. However the game can be criticised for a lack of development in abilities. You get all three items early on and part from some slight improving of them there are no further additions. Thankfully the game finds a variety of ways to use them with new ideas until the very end. They are integral to the game's many puzzles, which make up a sizable portion of the game. It is about much more than just capturing ghosts and the puzzles are always thought provoking and at times pretty challenging. The balance between ghost catching and puzzle solving is well struck and both aspects are well implemented and a joy to perform. Each mansion also ends with a boss level. The bosses are tough but can be defeated with patience and thought. The boss fights are well designed and further enhance the game's level of variety.

This second entry in the Luigi's mansion series is a step up on the first in both length and difficulty. It is 10-15 hours long in terms of the main story compared to the originals meagre few hours and provided much more of a challenge too in terms of capturing ghosts and puzzles. Having five mansions rather than one keeps the game fresh as you progress too. Each mansion is also split into bitesize levels of around 15 minutes each. This is perfect for handheld play and shows the developers have optimised the game for its platform. On the same note, they have made good use of 3D effects to improve the graphical impact of the environments as well. One final way in which Luigi's Mansion 2 improves on its predecessor is the delightful addition of multiplayer. The new thrill tower mode can be played on or offline with up to three other players in a number of modes. The gameplay is much the same as the main game but with a focus on ghost catching over puzzles as you progress up the floors of the tower. It is an unexpected but welcome addition that is especially fun when played with friends.

Luigi's Mansion 2 is one of the best games available on 3DS. It is a vast improvement on the original and plays to Luigi's strengths. The core gameplay carries over from its predecessor but plenty of successful additions and even more humour mean that the series is taken to a new level. If Luigi is capable of giving us more games like this, then I for one, hope he steps out of his brother's shadow a little bit more often.

Fri, 17 May 2013 08:27:42 -0700 pigfish2 reviewed Tomb Raider for the PlayStation 3... http://www.gamespot.com/tomb-raider/user-reviews/811411/platform/ps3/ ...and gave it a 9.0!

It is easy to say that hitting the reboot button is the easy option with a franchise as it enables the developers to start from scratch once more. However in reality it is a difficult task to pull off. Make it too similar to previous iterations and people will wonder why you bothered but make it too different and existing fans will be up in arms. Thankfully with Tomb Raider, Crystal Dynamics has for the most part got the balance right, albeit opting for more that's different than the same.

Being a reboot, the game casts you as a young Lara Croft setting out on her first adventure. Lara and the entire crew of the ship The Endurance are shipwrecked on the island of Yamatai and as Lara you must uncover the islands mysteries, defeat a crazed cult and find a way to escape. All in all the plot and characters are pretty generic with some clichéd dialogue at times but it is the strength of characterisation put into Lara that stands out. She begins as a naive and frightened girl but over the course of the game develops into a strong and confident woman willing to do whatever it takes to survive. Her character development is handled well and is the stand out feature of the game. Most games allow you to advance in terms of abilities and weapons but it is rare for a developer to attempt such a degree of character development. Crystal Dynamics have pulled it off though. This is helped by capable voice performance by Camilla Luddington as Lara. Of course Lara also advances in terms of abilities which are earn using skill points and weapons which can be upgraded using salvage. Just like with the development of Lara's character these are satisfying. They also enable more tasks to be completed and improved combat capability but crucially without making the game too easy as you progress.

Gameplay can be split into three main types. Firstly there is combat. Whilst not groundbreaking the cover system is well implemented and useful in what are some pretty intense firefights at times. The enemy AI is competent too with foes hiding behind cover and making themselves difficult to take down. The combat is very much like that of the Uncharted series, which Crystal Dynamics have clearly taken a number of cues from for this reboot. This can be seen in the second type of gameplay, the exploration and platforming. Lara is just as acrobatic as Nathan Drake and makes use of whatever she can to climb and explore. Jumps and climbs are easy to perform and satisfying to pull off. In another cue taken from the Uncharted series, the scenery will often collapse as Lara climbs it, leading to a scramble to hang on and grab something else. This forms part of the game's edge of your seat tone. Set pieces abound and the game maintains a fast pace as Lara rushes to escape collapsing buildings, is swept down rushing rivers and much more. This lends the game a strong cinematic feel with Lara as the heroine of the piece. The fast pace works well due to the strength of its execution but at times it could do with slowing down. This pace is occasionally broken up the third gameplay type; puzzles. I was disappointed by the lack of puzzles in the early stages of the game and whilst they do increase in number as it progresses, I still would have welcomed more to slow the game's breakneck pace at times. The puzzles that do exist require some thought but none are likely to leave you stumped for long. Overall I feel the gameplay balance is about right though and the difficulty is appropriate too. An omission that fans of the franchise might find hard to take is the lack of tombs. There are seven, short optional tombs, hidden away to find but none that are compulsory for completion. This doesn't detract from the game's quality but existing fans could be left disappointed. It is worth noting though that despite its fast pace and lack of tombs the game is surprisingly lengthy, clocking in at over ten hours.

Graphically, Tomb Raider is not spectacular but it is a good effort. The dark colours and foreboding locales instantly set the island out as a place to be feared and lighting is effectively used to enhance the sense of unease. The music is well chosen and complements the graphical choices in making you truly believe that this is a scary place that Lara is desperate to escape from. In addition to the use of sights and sounds to create a dangerous atmosphere, the game includes a large number of collectibles that flesh out the islands backstory. These are genuinely compelling to discover and extend the games already generous run time. Relics reveal the islands physical history whilst documents are used to portray the experiences of individuals who have previously had the misfortune of ending up on Yamatai. I often find collectibles to be in a game simply for the sake of making it seem to have more value but the Documents and Relics as well as GPS caches (which reveal two secret documents if you find them all) actually complement and enhance the story of the game. Tomb Raider also features online multiplayer in an attempt to further enhance the experience. It is a woefully lacklustre though. Lag is commonplace and it is quite simply boring. As an additional feature that is entirely separate of the main game it can gratefully be ignored though and does not detract from what is a top draw adventure.

Multiplayer aside, Crystal Dynamics' reboot of the Tomb Raider franchise has done what it set out to. It successfully reinvents Lara Croft with a strong level of character development and a fast paced adventure full of memorable moments. Tom Raider has been brought up to date and whilst it may take many cues from the Uncharted series it stands out as a fantastic game in its own right and re-establishes Lara Croft at gaming's top table.

Sun, 28 Apr 2013 03:20:10 -0700 pigfish2 reviewed LEGO City Undercover for the Wii U... http://www.gamespot.com/lego-city-undercover/user-reviews/810781/platform/wii-u/ ...and gave it a 8.0.

Lego City Undercover marks the first entirely original game in Travellers Tales series of Lego games that began with Lego Star Wars back in 2005 and for the most part its better for this. Much of the charm of the Lego games is the way they poke fun at characters you know but free of the constraints of a familiar franchise the developers have kept the series' trademark humour intact with their own cast of likeable and funny characters. The story goes that as legendary cop Chase McCain you have returned to Lego City after two years away to help return the notorious criminal Rex Fury to prison. Undercover is still heavily indebted to films though with countless nods to and parodies of classic movies throughout. One of the best is a construction worker who is clearly a parody of Arnold Schwarzenegger. The game is light-hearted in tone as you expect from a Lego game and genuinely amusing throughout with full voice acting for all the major characters. Said characters are for the most part well characterised but sadly Rex Fury is criminally underused with little explanation of his motives. All in all it is very much what you expect from a Lego game on the exterior but delve deeper and there is some noticeable tinkering and additions.

Lego City is fully open world and you can make your way throughout the entire city with no loading screens. This sense of exploration fits well with Lego and is improved further by the ability to take control of any of the over 100 types of vehicles dotted throughout the city. Impressively each vehicle has its own unique handling, which is an extra level of sheen than you would expect. The 15-20 hour story involves both exploration and completing goals in the city and 15 special assignments set in self contained levels. This works well and introduces variety to proceedings. The chief gameplay mechanic is the ability for Chase to switch between a number of disguises ranging from burglar to fireman. Each disguise once unlocked provides its own unique abilities for solving different puzzles. This is a good way of keeping the Lego games character swapping intact whilst casting you as a single character. One free play mode is unlocked you can use any of the games 290 disguises that there are to collect. These disguises include all of the games major and minor characters and beyond and fit into categories based on the disguises Chase can use in the story. Gameplay involves a mix of fighting, platforming and puzzle solving and whilst for the most part these are all simplistic they are nevertheless fun. In terms of gameplay there is little change from what you expect from the tried and tested Lego formula. The game is rarely challenging, but that has never been the point with the Lego games, instead it offers relatively easy childlike enjoyment.

Graphically the game is not groundbreaking but holds up well with minor blemishes only noticeable when the camera moves in close. The voice work for the game is well recorded and the sound work in general is good. The music whilst decent quickly becomes irritating though as the game only has a few tracks that constantly repeat. One area where the game falls down is in technical details. The loading times when starting or finishing levels, and entering the police station are horribly long and clock in at a minimum 40 seconds each. This can be in part understood by the huge open world nature of the city but nevertheless it is an irritating waste of times. More worryingly the game at times suffers from freezing and other minor technical problems but these are rare. Lack of multiplayer in such a family orientated game is another drawback. The gamepad is well implemented if hardly original, with it serving as a communicator, scanner and map.

Undercover is a fun, if hardly exceptional game that offers plenty of hours of enjoyment. The story can be finished in 15-20 hours but with loads to collect and unlock beyond that and a huge city to explore there is plenty of value to be had. It is one of the best games in the Lego series that benefits from being unchained by the absence of a license and whilst it may not be a classic, it is a welcome addition to the Wii U's library.

from the start you can experience and explore the magical world that surrounds you
the beautiful music and the beautiful places and you'll know you made the right choice playing it.
you go through different places from the hot desert to the dark caves to the snowy mountain top.
your goal is to get to the mountain top and find its secrets.
the game doesn't have voice acting because it doesn't need to the story is told through a big white character that is showing you pictures and places.
you play as an unknown person discovering the world on his or her or it's mission to get to the mountain top. one of the fun is you can play online without seeing the name tag or talking to whom you're playing with you can only communicate with musical notes which makes it special. you need to cooperate if you wanna move faster and whats even cooler is you can see the name tag of the people you were playing with, at the end of the credits.
the musical score is the best and it will win some awards for sure.
for conclusion buy the game!!! its worth the money if you speed through it it will take you 2-3 hours but you'll come back exploring the world because there enough to see for 10 hours and its worth the money so do yourself a favor and go right now to buy this game. :)

Mon, 30 Jan 2012 19:18:37 -0800 GAMECAMILLER reviewed Half-Minute Hero for the PSP... http://www.gamespot.com/half-minute-hero/user-reviews/786739/platform/psp/ ...and gave it a 8.0.

Half-Minute Hero is a game that's built around completing a task 30 seconds. Whether that be defeating a boss via a RPG, shooting your way to find a flower, or preventing you Sage from being attacked, Half-Minute Hero is what it is, trying to be a "hero" in 30 seconds of less.

(Note this review does give away what modes are unlocked after the third mode is completed. Other then that, nothing else is revealed/spoiled about the game's story."

The game itself is broken up into 5 modes. The first being Hero 30, which are 30 levels of mini RPGness. The game includes everything you would see in a RPG: towns, items to buys, leveling up, grinding, money earning, and of course Boss fights. The object is to defeat the Boss of each level in 30 seconds or less. Sometimes you need more time then 30 seconds; You can turn back time by7 praying to the statue goddess... which really means paying money, that doubles each time you sue it in a level. Overall, I really liked the game play of those levels, and everything seemed to work out very smoothly.

The second is Evil Lord 30, which is a Real Time Strategy game (in 30 seconds) across 30 levels. i didn't like this mode so much as the others. You have access to three monsters; Brutes which are great against speed type enemies, Nimbles, which are great against shooting enemies, and Shooters, which can take down brute types. Your aura around you dictates how strong your summons are, and how many you can summon at a time. If you are hit, you summon level takes a hit, making it harder to complete a stage. Luckily you can, like in Hero mode, for a price, use the golden barrels that house the goddess to not only turn back time, but return your summon stats to maximum. Sometimes the levels get a bit too intense to summon and this mode, out of all 5, seemed to be a hassle at times. Luckily ti doesn't last as long as Hero 30

Third, is Princess 30, which is a 30 second shooter. I liked this mainly for the change of pace in the game at this point, albeit it was a bit too easy for me. You as a Princess progress across 30 levels with your knights trying to complete quests, all while getting back before 30 seconds are up. The red carpets across the level allow you to turn back time, for some coins.

Fourth, is the Knight 30 mode, which is an action game that you try to keep the Sage safe for 30 seconds while it charges it's spell to end the level and send the monsters packing. This has 30 levels as well. It was a nice change on the 30 second concept since the sage has to go untouched for 30 seconds nonstop. You can guide the Sage around the level to protect it, set traps, use weapons (that break very easily) or try to use your own body to protect the sage. You'll die a lot, but luckily the game doesn't end as if you guide your spirit back tot he sage, you can live to protect the sage again. So in other words, whatever it takes in this mode, PROTECT THE SAGE!

Finally. the story ends with a 5th mode, which is 1 level that ties all the previous mode's stories together in an RPG in 3 minutes.

There's also a bonus mode which is a single level you try to beat in 3 seconds. Yes, THREE SECONDS. Thank god it's not part of the main game. It's insane.

The graphics for the game are pixeled backgrounds and characters to give the game a fitting 8-bit retro look, while the cut scenes (or cut scene screenshots) are detail artwork images.

As for the music and sound, the game sounds fantastic with fitting RPG tunes. It brings out the nostalgia of the old games it's inspired by.

Overall, I liked the game's neat concepts, though Hero 30 is the best out of them all. I give this an 8.0 out of ten. Solid game, very neat concepts, worth checking out.

This game is a re-dux of the '80s handheld game Simon. It involves simple pattern recognition with a twist. 4 Stodgy Gentleman will taunt you with a grunt or a snort. You must remember the pattern and then slap them in that order. Coins come flying out of their jackets, which you can later use to buy different items to slap them with, and different costumes for them to wear. Theres nothing more fun than slapping an old man in a dress with a codfish!

The DLC is great, and the costume changes are hillarious. It's also fun watching friends on Game Center, and competing with how many rounds you can complete. There aren't many free Game Spot games of this quality. It's also really fun for kids, although it may take a little explaining for them to understand the mechanic. At a pricetag of free its really a great game!

The art and sfx are what make this game. It's fun to play, and can be very challenging, but keeps you laughing all the while. It's a great game, free, and integrates with Game Center. Definitely worth your time.

I have had many game changing moments in my life. I served my country, and traveled the world. From South Korea to Bosnia, my life has led me many places. I figured that at my age I had experienced most of the true "Wow!" moments in my life, until I came across Street Cleaning Simulator. A true to life game changer.

This one game opened my eyes to the world, as if I were Neo, and it were Morpheus. Showing me another path, I hesitantly took the red pill and SCS took me by the hand, and showed me another path. A path that was not corrupt with corporate greed. A path that did not have multi-million dollar budgets. A path that broke away from "hey, I am killing stuff, so I am having fun right?!"/.

SCS is not a game for the lighthearted. This game will open your eyes to the real world. The world of streets. Dirty streets. Streets that NEED to be cleaned. This game slaps you awake and says "Hey! Do you know what its like to have a real job?"!

Finishing the game is no easy task. Honestly, if it were a simulation, you would have to play it for 25 years, then retire with a decent pension plan. Or death. Yeah, that would finish any simulation. Except for a death simulation. Then, I think it would just start the simulation. Anyways, this game is one for the record books!

Let it be known that this game is Tiggerboy tested, Tiggerboy approved!

Sat, 11 Jun 2011 01:17:31 -0700 GAMECAMILLER reviewed FlingSmash for the Wii... http://www.gamespot.com/flingsmash/user-reviews/767111/platform/wii/ ...and gave it a 4.0.

FlingSmash is the pack in game for the Wii's new and improved controller, the Wii Remote Plus, that features a Wii motion plus built in. As a pack in title, FlingSmash gets a lot of things right, but fails the most important part - the controls.

FlingSmash puts you in control of Zip or Pip, the guardians of the island under attack by dark forces. They have the power to bounce and well...smash things. Using the Wii Remote Plus or a Wii remote with a motion plus attachment, you have to smash Zip or Pip around like a tennis ball to earn points and destroy everything in your path. Your main objective is to earn 3 coins in each stage to unlock the pearl at the end to advance to the next stage.

There's 3 stages and 1 boss in each of the 8 worlds, with unlockable bonus minigames and 1 or 2 player gameplay.

In terms of graphics, FlingSmash is colorful, in classic Nintendo fashion, featuring a decent upbeat music score. Up to this point it seems FlingSmash has the makings of being a great pack in title.

The problem is, that FlingSmash fails miserably when it comes to controls. Swinging the Wii remote often sends Zip or Pip in a direction you didn't intend to go. Many times did I swing left, the character wen right. Swing up, he went down instead. Even recalibrating the remote many times did not help. I even tried the new remote on other Wii games, which worked fine. The Conclusion? FlingSmash just is not made to properly read the remote's reactions.

This leads to numerous frustrations, retrying of levels needlessly, and just no fun in the end and makes the game fall apart.

It's a shame. FlingSmash had the makings of a great pack in title, as it did everything right, but the controls. Which when it comes to the new Wii Remote Plus, is a double shame - as the pack in doesn't not showcase how great the new controller is.

Fri, 29 Apr 2011 12:34:16 -0700 gamergirl17 reviewed Portal 2 for the PlayStation 3... http://www.gamespot.com/portal-2/user-reviews/763510/platform/ps3/ ...and gave it a 10.0!!!

Portal 2: ****SPOILERS****

Beware that this review will contain spoilers. If you do not wish to have the experienced spoiled, then turn back now. ☺

When I think of replay value, I don't just think about trophies or special items. What keeps me coming back for more is the story. Portal 2 delivered just that. I know without a doubt that Portal 2 will never get old. (I'm already on my second play through.)

From the get-go I was immediately consumed by this FPS puzzle game. I honestly didn't want to put it down. Upon purchasing Portal 2, I told myself that I wasn't to play until I was on spring break. Yeah, that didn't happen. Within a 24-hour span I completed the single player campaign!

The controls were insanely simple. Almost anyone would be able to pick up this game and play it with little to no learning curve. If you've played the first installment, then you'll find that the controls haven't changed at all. (And that's a good thing.) There is nothing I despise more about games in a series, than having to re-learn new controls. How hard is it to keep them the same?

The soundtrack for Portal 2 helps the player immerse into such a pleasurable game. You won't be disappointed. It features an amazing song by The National, an indie band from Cincinnati, Ohio, called "Fake Empire", and many other great tracks. I can't wait to purchase the soundtrack (if one is made available).

I was glad to see that the voice of GLaDOS was still the same. In Portal 2, we have been introduced to a few more great voices as well. Most of you know who J. K. Simmons is, right? If not, you should be ashamed. He's the face of the Farmer's Insurance commercials, the dad from the hit film Juno, or as Assistant Chief Will Pope from the T.V. series, The Closer. J. K. Simmons lends his voice as the dry humored Cave Johnson, the founder and CEO of Aperture Laboratories. After playing this game, you'll find yourself quoting him quite often. Cave Johnson is just one of the three great voices you'll find in Portal 2.

Co-Op. We all love it. Portal 2 introduces a completely original form of cooperative play. You and one other player start out as Atlas and P-Body. Each of you is armed with a portal gun, and each gun is has two different colors. P-Body is armed with a yellow and red gun, while Atlas has blue and purple. You and your pal must navigate through each level while coordinating your portals in numerous ways. The gameplay presents hours of fun and hilarious circumstances. The two of you will find yourselves playing until all hours of the night.

I rate Portal 2 a 10/10. If you haven't considered this game, yet, you really should. You won't regret it.

-V.

Ok, lets be sure to understand people... I'm writing this review on opening day. This is just so people can get a gamer's story of the game, and not just some one-liners like "Stupid" or "Awesome".

NTG11 is a game worth buying and worth playing. Is it a game worth keeping? We'll wait for the DLC to say. At the moment, it's got hours of fun and then you can trade it in. I believe good things are to come. The DLC looks like a good improvement, plus patches are coming to fix the bugs.

First thing's first. Gameplay. I find the gameplay quite thrilling. Could use a rearview mirror, but the radar is sound. The visuals are pretty darn good-looking. The AI is sometimes easy, but I've been playing on Hard (second hardest difficulty) and I find myself just downright slow at times. Qualifying is too too easy, but the race itself is not a gimme. I've only won one offline race (at California. Took the lead and said goodbye). The drafting is good. Car's don't get ticked at you for bump-drafting and you also will not lose control the second competition occurs and you have to push hard. I find damage affects the car greatly. I played an elimination round (I'll explain later) and found the more I hit the wall, the worse my handling got. Wasn't so sure about top speed, but the handling surely got worse. Excellent racing.

Career Mode. I have to say, I am a little disappointed. I had expected something along the lines of NASCAR Thunder days where we had our own teams and had to work hard to make a decent car. This is simple. You have predetermined sponsors. They have goals to achieve in the season (NOT a few races. That is a great improvement). These goals look to be optional. They look like they just give some bonuses, like NXP (experience points) percentage bonuses. You have the option to practice before each race, and I highly recommend you do to set up your car. Then you qualify. Then you race. There are points standings, but money is not a factor in the game. You have a car. You can damage the car. Your car will be repaired after the race for free. It is capable of running wherever you want it. There is no progression in performance. You can race as either your own "created" driver, or a driver in the series, making it more like Season Mode rather than Career Mode. I have not played an entire season (it remains only my first day of playing), but the career mode seems a little dry.

There are invitationals you can be invited to. These are fun little challenges you can use to unlock things in the game. Your driver earns experience points that also unlock things in the game, such as paint schemes for your favorite driver.

Split-screen is in the game, and I look forward to trying it, although I have not had the chance yet.

Online gameplay looks like it's all there, but there are too many bugs to fix to make it worth playing. My PS3 has frozen countless times from online play, if the race would even start at all. The loading seems unbearable, so drivers quit. I find myself racing one other person most times. If there were no bugs, the gameplay looks fun online. you get to show off your created cars if you wish.

Creating a car is very unique and time consuming, and it has so much potential, but there are some key factors missing that are said to be in the DLC that will come out later. There are no manufacture decals so your car looks bland. There are so few sponsors available. There is no way to mirror what you put on the car, so you gotta eyeball it a second time. I would like those little sponsors on the front of the car so as to look more official (you could attempt to put them on your car yourself, but that would take forever, and there's not enough sponsors anyway). In time, with the DLC, and maybe some patches (if they wanna put it in patches), designing a car will be a beauty.

I wish you could legitimately create a driver.

So, gameplay is certainly enough to buy the game, and there is enough to do to keep you busy for some time. The DLC should greatly improve the value of the game, and some patches to come will make the game more playable. I enjoy the game very much. IT IS A GAME! It has been a long time since I could say that for NASCAR. I am very thankful. It is better than EA Sports in a number of ways. The series is new and will improve in time.

I hope this helps for those looking for a detailed review.

Tue, 28 Dec 2010 14:56:16 -0800 GAMECAMILLER reviewed Sonic Colors for the Wii... http://www.gamespot.com/sonic-colors/user-reviews/750011/platform/wii/ ...and gave it a 9.0!

Sonic Colors is a game that not only returns Sonic to form, but proves to be an amazing game as well.

Let's backtrack first. Ever since Sonic made the jump to 3D over a decade ago, Sonic fans have been aching for a true Sonic 2D/3D game. Albeit, I loved the Sonic Adventure series for what it was, liked Sonic Heroes even though it was full of cheap kills, and yes, I even liked Shadow the Hedgehog, Most of us finally said enough when one of the worst video games ever finally hit. Sonic 06. It was full of glitches, broken parts, and unfinished.

Sonic Unleashed was a game that was better... it gave a taste of what could be. The 2D Sonic levels were fun, but were blocked with that awful hub world. Some didn't care for Sonic's wolfman levels either. That didn't bother me that much, but that hub word...god I hated that. I just wanted to play! What happened to simply beating a level?

Meanwhile, on the Game Boy Advance and DS systems, Sonic was having some stellar games. The Sonic Advance series proved to be A level quality (and a must own for any game boy owner), And even had some other games that proved to be just as good (pinball, battle etc.). As the new DS came, Sonic Again kicked it into high gear with great Sonic Rush (another must own) and the good Sonic Rush Adventure. All sticking with the sonic game play we loved, but making it better, with some improvements (no werewolfs here!) And heck he even had a RPG game to boot.

But finally, it seems on the big consoles he was gonna be big again. Sonic Episode 1 got released earlier this fall for Wii Virtual Console, XBLA, and PSN. It was a return to old-school Sonic, with HD graphics, but with game play in the vein of Sonic 2 and 3.

I like it. While Sonic isn't as fast and improved as the portables he's been in, at least it was a 2D Sonic. Without any crud added on, or annoying extra characters that do nothing. It was Sonic, and I loved it.

Then came word of another Sonic game. One for the DS and Wii. Sonic Colors. I had my doubts. Let's face it Sonic fans...we get weary when we hear of a Sonic game...you never know what it might bring. So I passed it by. Ignored it.

Then on Christmas, I unwrapped this game as one of my presents. Put it into the Wii that had not been used in ages...

...and was stunned.

Folks, not only is it a good Sonic game, it might just be the best one I've played on consoles in a long, long, long time.

The game features 2D game play with the gameplay seamlessly flowing into 3D parts (that are good!). It's also full of many, many high thrill spots, that just make you go "wow." I don't wont to spoil any surprises, but there are lots of fun moments in this game. The best part is it's hub word is simply a select planet, select level stuff....no annoying "gotta do this, gotta do that" to get in. Just beat the level folks. And boy are the levels good!

The gameplay does feature a gimmick. The colors gimmick. As Sonic, the story goes that you and Tails are trying to free these aliens being used to run Eggman's theme park. These Aliens are of great power. As you collect (save) them will give you the power to run super fast, drill through rock, rocket through the air, etc. etc. You'll unlock others along the way and be able to use it in previous levels to unlock new paths and such. Speaking of the levels, they are of just the right length; not too short, not too long, and feature multiple paths, especially as you get powers. This makes replaying levels to get high scores, all the mroe fun.

It also features some multiplayer mini games and such that you can use your Mii for, but they seem like a bit of tacked on mode. The true show here is the Single player game play.

So folks, Sonic fans, this is a must own. The great reviews are right, it's a return to what we want. Not only is it good, it's great. Ir corrects many of the issues 3D Sonic games have had, and It surpasses what a lot of people expected with it's gameplay. With epic thrill spots, fun levels, and full of worthy add-ons to the Sonic gameplay, this is gonna be one to remembered for years to come.

Get it now!

Mon, 01 Nov 2010 13:42:21 -0700 Kerry12424 reviewed Star Wars: The Force Unleashed II for the PlayStation 3... http://www.gamespot.com/star-wars-the-force-unleashed-ii/user-reviews/743258/platform/ps3/ ...and gave it a 8.5.

Now lets get this straight. Yes, the game is far too short. Ok?

However, with that said, let's look at the positives. The story line is quite exciting, primarily if you've played the first game. It is a little one-way but I my constant predictions were proven wrong nearly every time. The cut scenes are simply "wow!" I couldn't look away. The design showed truly what PS3 is capable of, and it's simply amazing.

The combat is intense. Some people complained the game was too hard. I highly disagree. I began on Hard (Second to hardest difficulty) and I had plenty of deaths to keep me frustrated. The only complaints I have about the combat are the repetitiveness of the grapples and the final boss battle (the final boss battle was quite boring and easy, but the ending made up for it if only to make my feelings toward the final battle neutral rather than negative).

The re-playability of this game is greater than the first I believe. The challenges can keep you busy and the story line (perhaps because it is short) makes you want to play it at least one more time.

If you have the first game, I recommend playing that one first and then the second. Force Unleashed II will make much more sense, and the two of them together make for a great game.

Sun, 17 Jan 2010 15:46:04 -0800 KGKaiju reviewed Twisted Metal 2 for the PlayStation... http://www.gamespot.com/twisted-metal-2-1996/user-reviews/702971/platform/ps/ ...and gave it a 9.0!

Twisted Metal 2 improves upon the original by taking the battles out of the suburbs and onto the world stage with battlegrounds in Paris, Moscow, Amazonia, Antarctica, Holland, Hong Kong, New York City, and Los Angeles. The addition of Axel, Grasshopper, Mr Slam, Twister, and Shadow to the franchise is definitely a plus though it is disappointing to see Darkside, Yellow Jacket, Crimson Fury, and Pit Viper depart. Gone as well are health recharge stations. They are now replaced by health symbols that generate periodically. The weapons list has also changed as tire spikes, rear flame, and oil slicks have been replaced by remote bombs, ricochet bombs, napalm and lightning (though the latter can only be used in certain environments). Freeze missiles, rear missiles, drop mines, and catapults are now used via advance attacks requiring certain button sequences. In addition, machine guns no longer overheat, allowing the gamer to fire at will without reprisal. For those that don't care for the refs in the original game, you will be pleased to know that they have been eliminated in TM2.

As for control, the vehicles seem to react exactly as you would expect. Mr.Slam is more sluggish while Twister is quite loose. There is a balance though....Vehicles that have poor maneuverability (like Mr. Slam) have increased armor while some with poor armor have devastating weapons (like Mr. Grimm). Each character is capable of winning the tournament and claiming a prize from Calypso (now with ending movies!).

Graphics for the game are not top notch by today's standards but do not detract from the experience in my honest opinion.

This game is what compelled me to buy the PlayStation in the first place. Far from being your ordinary, run-of-the-mill shooter, this game features characters that have there own unique personalities. For instance, Roadkill will stay away from you until your health is low and go after you mercilessly to finish you off. Other drivers (like Axel and Outlaw 2) prefer hit-and-run tactics. One of the more annoying vehicles in the game is Spectre, whose ghost missiles go through walls and always seem to target you. Thumper likes to sneak up behind you while you are battling another vehicle and activate his powerful flamethrower to eliminate your health bar. Each driver has his own effective methods to take you out. The major dilemma is choosing who you want take out first!

With a descent array of weapons and advanced attacks at your disposal, the methods of enemy annihilation seem to be endless! The question is: Will you be dishing out the punishment or will you be on the receiving end? With strategy, timing, and driving skill, you can overcome the odds and watch as your opponents become a pile of twisted metal!

Fri, 30 Oct 2009 01:20:54 -0700 pigfish2 reviewed Animal Crossing: City Folk for the Wii... http://www.gamespot.com/animal-crossing-city-folk/user-reviews/689396/platform/wii/ ...and gave it a 9.0!

If you've played an Animal Crossing game before then you know exactly what to expect from Lets Go To The city. Anyone looking for a radical change to the series is going to be left feeling disappointed but fans of the series who just want more of the same will find plenty to like here.

As in previous titles in the series LGTTC has you playing as a human who has just moved to a town completely inhabited by animals. The game has no real objective and you are left to live your life in the town as you wish. The freedom this gives you is the real beauty of Animal Crossing because there's always plenty to do such as fishing, bug catching, shopping and helping out your fellow residents. The concept may seem thin and as if it will lack real lasting value but I constantly find myself coming back day after day to check up on the most recent goings on in my town.

The main draw of Animal Crossing that enables it to be so effective is the characters that live in your town. All the animals are charming and genuinely interesting to chat to. Up to 10 can live in your town at once and there's also a town hall, shop, tailors and museum for you to visit. It would have been nice to see some more places added to the town to make it more different from previous titles but this gripe is sorted out to a certain extent by the games one main addition, the city.

You can travel to the city by bus every day and once there you'll find a lot to do. This includes a salon, up market clothes store and much more, It's also a great place to meet animals who don't live in your town. Adding the city does increase the variety of the game however a lot of the shops were in the older games in the form of visitors to your town. Having the city in the game means that you get fewer visitors to your town but you still get the odd travelling carpet seller ot artist to mix up the game a little.

It would have been nice to see some improvements made to the graphics and sound of the game because both seem to be lifted from the DS title just with a little extra sheen for the Wii. These aren't crucial to the enjoyment of the game though and the graphical style is still the perfect fit.

Animal Crossing is also one of the few Wii games to incorporate Wii Speak communication. When visiting a friends town or vice-versa over Nintendo Wi-Fi connection you can chat to each other in real time which is a big improvement over the DS games text based chat. If you don't have Wii Speak then text communication is still available though. Visiting each others towns is just as enjoyable as it was on DS and is a great way to see how other people have decorated their houses and to meet even more characters. Sadly you can't visit the city together which isn't a major issue but would have been nice.

The game uses the clock and calender from your Wii which gives it the unique feature of having a full 365 day year with specific events happening on certain days such as Christmas and Easter and certain species of fish and bug only available during particular seasons. This gives the game real life span because you really do have to play the game for a full year to see everything it has to offer.

If you've already played an Animal Crossing game then you'll know what expect here and your enjoyment of that game will be enough to let you know if you want a slightly refined and improved but largely the same experience on the Wii. However for newcomers to the franchise it's the perfect place to start, whether you want to shop, collect or just chat to the locals there's always lots to see and do but beware, because it may just take over your life.

Tue, 13 Oct 2009 14:19:08 -0700 tiggerboy reviewed Brutal Legend for the Xbox 360... http://www.gamespot.com/brutal-legend/user-reviews/686537/platform/xbox360/ ...and gave it a 9.0!

With not a ton of hype surrounding this game as the release date approached, I was a little leery of getting this game, but my gut feeling insisted on me making the purchase.

I am sure glad that I listened to my gut.

This game rocks. Literally. With a soundtrack stuffed to the rafters with metal from great bands such as Iced Earth, 3 Inches of Blood, Dethklok, and Sabbath just to name a few, there is no way of denying that fact. But its not just the soundtrack that makes this game so entertaining, its also the addictive gameplay that is just fun! So far (I have not finished the game) the game is very entertaining and great looking, thanks to the creative mind of Tim Schafer (Psychonauts, Monkey Island, etc.) and Double Fine Productions.

This is not your usual open-world hack and slash game, oh no, this game is something more. Eddie also has the ability to control an army to create destruction at his very will! It is sort of the mix of God of War style button mashing with a hint of Overlord. Your army begins with the ability of controlling "Headbangers" that will literally head-bang the crap of anything that you command them to. Though you are also armed with a badass battle axe called The Destroyer (I think thats the name), and with the help of a very special rocker (no spoilers) you will have the ability to upgrade yourself as well as your Axe and vehicle.

So far, I have only found a couple of things that had me going "really?". While minuscule to the shear power of rock that flows through the veins of this game (err.... too much?) I feel that they should be mentioned.

No jumping. I have never really understood this play style, but yeah, Eddie cannot jump, though he does however do a flying downward thrust with a press and hold of the X button.

The story can be a little confusing. While I figure that you are going to find out whats going on as you move through the games main story, I can't help but wonder "What is going on? Why is this going on? What the hell happened?".

No HUD. While I like my experience to be as "realistic" looking as I can expect from a game about a roady that gets killed and wakes up in a universe that is completely paved with metal references, I still would like to know how much health I have so I can see how damaging the enemies attacks are. You know, for scientific purposes....

Like I said, so far those are the things that stood out while I played. I doubt that there will be many more to complain about.

Anyways, my suggestion is to definitely give this game a play. I will be pretty sure that unless you feel that rock music is "The devils calling for sinners" you will find that this game has much to offer!

** BTW, there is Multiplayer, that from what I have seen is kind of an RTS style gameplay, but as of this posting I had not checked it out, so I have not included it in the ratings, statements, or any judgements that I have made of this game.**

Hope that you enjoyed! Thanks for reading!
