Journey is hard to explain. You get dropped in to a world where nothing is told. Where there are no huds, tutorial or any instructions at all. This game does nothing to introduce you to the world or what you have been dropped into.

The Bad:
Don't get me wrong. This game has little to any flaws at all. But some people might not like the linear form this game has or deeper gameplay.

The Good:
Everything about this game is really sublime. The character, the story, the world, the graphics and music are all amazing.
The story is what you make it out to be. It can be an analogy for several things in life in general. I don't want to go deeper, because it's something the player has to go through and something each person have to decide for themselves.
The music is just stunning through the entire game. The game gives this game a lot of depth and meaning and is really amazing to listen to. It tells you how good a great soundtrack when the composer has won an emmy.
The visuals are stunning and simple at the same time. The game just looks so amazing. It really has it's own unique look and just looks amazing through the whole game.
The gameplay is solid and is also very unique with random nameless players joining in and going on the same journey without any way of communicating and not showing their names is something very unique.

Overall:
The game is an experience and every gamer or none gamer should experience this visual deep story. It has amazing graphics and unique game mechanics. The game is amazing and worth getting.

+Stunning Visuals
+Unique Presentation
+Unique Co-Op experience
+Unique experience and story

Mon, 10 Jun 2013 11:32:53 -0700 The_Last_Ride reviewed Medal of Honor for the Xbox 360... http://www.gamespot.com/medal-of-honor/user-reviews/812268/platform/xbox360/ ...and gave it a 7.5.

Medal of Honor takes on a realistic approach to war and soldiers. The games takes a squad in the war on terror. This squad gets in the middle of terrorism and the taliban. With this game they are trying to tell a soldiers side to the story without over the top action or fancy futuristic weapons or gadgets. In this game you also get to view the story from different perspectives from the squad you get to follow around.

The Bad:
The story is extremely linear. It makes no effort to make the player take different approaches or exploration. It makes every gun fight a straight up shooting gallery and keeps you shooting until the enemy or the player is down.
The gameplay doesn't really make it stand out. Even though it takes a realistic approach, there isn't a whole lot that makes this very unique compared to other shooters. It doesn't really stand out for those that hoped this games was something very different.
Even though the multiplayer has some interesting modes. It doesn't really set itself apart from other shooters with progression modes or different styles of playing the multiplayer.

The Good:
The story is really good. It has a really emotional ending that doesn't come out of nowhere, but is built through the game with having stackes in the characters through the game's story. It doesn't have anything over the top, but it makes it more realistic.
The audio is great and doesn't really do a whole lot wrong. It gets the job done in the end of the day.
The voice acting is good, and makes the characters believable. It gives them more life, and it's great to see not only jumping from one scene to the next without any context.
The graphics still look good on the consoles. It doesn't have any framedrops and has a really realistic look. And makes it a more down to earth game without the over the top action sequences
The multiplayer has some interesting modes and tries to differ itself from others. It does have some lasting appeal.

Overall:
It's a good shooter to at least have a look at and try for the story and also try some of the multiplayer. But compared to others only some that are in the shooter genre might want to try this out and it doesn't really stand out to others. It has a realistic story and tries to tell a good story from a soldiers view.

+Realistic story
+Good Audio
+Good Voice Acting
+Good modes for multiplayer
+Good looking graphics

-Doesn't stand out
-Multiplayer doesn't stand out
- Very Linear Story
-Gunfights feel the same

Sun, 09 Jun 2013 14:07:42 -0700 The_Last_Ride reviewed The Walking Dead: A Telltale Games Series for the PlayStation 3... http://www.gamespot.com/the-walking-dead-a-telltale-games-series/user-reviews/812233/platform/ps3/ ...and gave it a 9.0!

The story takes place when Lee, the main character. Get's a ride from a police officer to take him to to jail. Suddenly everything goes wrong and in the midst he meets Clementine. A girl he takes the responsibility over and gets dependent on Lee. Through the entire story you have to take hard decisions between what you think is right and wrong. There is no black and white in this story. Only doing what you need to do to keep yourself, friends and Clementine alive. You get to experience the story between Clementine and Lee through 5 emotional episodes of Walking Dead.

The Bad:
The Playstation 3 version of this game has some really, really bad framrate issues. So bad that there are actually part of the conversations freeze and you only hear the conversation. This is takes the player really out of the experience and should be fixed.

The gameplay element of this game are really light. It's a point and click adventure. For those looking for really deep gameplay functions may be dissapointed. This can also make the game feel simple sometimes. The diffculty during the gameplay isn't much either, because for the most part it is straight forward.

The Good:
The game tells a really, really great story between several characters. The entire story has a thread going through it, and makes everything you do in the game matter. Whatever you do has consequences. This makes everything harder to decide and actually makes the player make really hard decisions sudden. This makes the story really dynamic and deeper. The main characters are really strong and have a deep relationship between them. The bond Lee and Clementine have through all of the episodes are heartwarming and hearbreaking. You really care what happens to the characters.

The audio and music really set the mood for the story and the setting in all the games. It's not any metal or known singer in them, but they are subtle and don't do too much or too little.

The graphical style of this game is also really good. It has a certain distinctive look and makes the game stand out. This also makes the game look really great. It won't look outdated, which is a really smart design decision. It's distinctive in the way it doesn't look too cartoonish, but make expressions and emotions for all the characters shine through.

Even though the gameplay isn't that deep or really that engaging doesn't mean it doesn't get the job done. It's also very easy for anyone that doesn't even like games to pick these games up just for the story.

Overall:
This is a cheap downloadable game worth gettting. It has a deep engaging story, with believable characters it makes the game stand out. While it doesn't heavily rely on gameplay mechanics other than solving puzzles it gives newcomers to gaming a chance to try out the medium. If you like a deep story driven game that is clever written, then you should try it.

+ Strong story
+ Great characters
+Good looking graphics
+ Easy to pick up
+Consequences that matter

- Frame drops for PS3 version
-Too simple for some gamers

Mon, 20 May 2013 16:55:52 -0700 The_Last_Ride reviewed Battlefield: Bad Company 2 for the Xbox 360... http://www.gamespot.com/battlefield-bad-company-2/user-reviews/811537/platform/xbox360/ ...and gave it a 8.5.

Bad Company starts takes place with a company that suddenly stumbles on something big on a military mission. With all the different personalities and actually a fun and good story spent on the singleplayer it makes for a great singleplayer story. The multiplayer doesn't lack anything either with a progression system and a lot of destructable enviroments that makes for dynamic gameplay.

The bad:
The graphic does take a hit in this game and does have framerate issues. If you don't care for the greatest graphics this won't be something to take notice of. But some may take notice.
Some of singleplayer events might be annoying with smaller glitches and sometimes quick time/live scenes events taking you out of the experience.
The multiplayer might feel a little familiar to most. The multiplayer does offer detructable enviroment, but doesn't really have anything new than any other shooter when it comes to multiplayer.

The Good:
The singleplayer really gives you a lot of options to approach the situation. Not forcing the player to choose just some random weapon the character is assigned. But actually choosing a weapons the level and what the player wants. The levels are linear, but don't feel linear as it actually might be.
The gameplay itself is really solid and does give the player enough to choose from in multiplayer and singleplayer.
The story is really solid in singleplayer and gives the player a story full of action story. With funny one liners and some great voice acting, it gives the story depth and purpose.
The level design is well done and never feels forced and gives the player enough variety to actually be a good change of pace instead of the constant gun shooting.

Overall:
It's a great shooter with really great singleplayer with humor and depth and a multiplayer that is solid but doesn't really add whole lot to formula, but is still fun to play. I would recomend this to anyone that is a fan of shooters to explore and some that haven't really tried the genre out yet.

Thu, 16 May 2013 17:24:48 -0700 The_Last_Ride reviewed Transformers: Fall of Cybertron for the Xbox 360... http://www.gamespot.com/transformers-fall-of-cybertron/user-reviews/811396/platform/xbox360/ ...and gave it a 8.5.

The game Fall of Cybertron takes place after the first game that tells the ending of the war between the Autobots and Decipticons. You take control of both sides and getting a deeper perspective from both sides.
There is a multiplayer in this game that has a progression system. There are also several classes to choose from enabling the player to explore more than one way to play.

The Bad:
There is a certain level that totally has a harder difficulty then the others. This is totally different then any of the other levels. The enemies are way harder, and more then the other levels. It also gives you little oppertunity to get more health and ammo. Making it hard even on normal and easy diffuculty. This is something the developer should have taken notice before launching it or fixing it after release.
The campaign is also a little on the short side. There is also little replaybility to the campaign other than trying to get achievments or trying to do it on harder difficulty. It is a shame it is so short, because the story is actually pretty good. Feeling they could have explored the game more with characters. The characters have little screen time other than the many known ones.

The Good:
Even though the story is short and not fully using the potential some of the stories could have had, it is by no chance bad. The story is really well paced and has enough actions and cutscenes to immerse the player in the experience.
The characters are colorful and well written. You never feel dull in the singleplayer experience. With funny and serious moments through the whole campaign makes it a really great game. Great characters and great story.
The gameplay itself is really solid. With a heavy gun and light gun and special abilities for each of the characaters. Examples are Stealth that gives you the ability to actually sneak up on enemies. The really great thing about this is that the level design actually makes you benefit when you use the ablities and it doesn't feel forced in any of them and go with them without any problem. This makes the gameplay even more diverse and giving players more variation. The player can also transform into a vehicle that makes the gameplay even greater, leaving the player to choose either form and playing as you see fit. Some stages in each level might be better to use in one or the other form. They never feel forced and gives the player the option to play how they want. The player also gets to upgrade weapons, perks, abilities, buying perks, etc. And gives a sense of depth to game.
The multiplayer is really good and gives the player the choice of making the robots to look how they want, giving them different weapons and in the end a lot of choice how they want to play it. There was no issue with lag when i played this.
The graphics has its own style and does stand out to the eye. It really is amazing at times. Especially when looking at cities and the horizon of large buildings. Just showing how great the world looks like.
The voice acting is really good. They really bring the characters to life and brining old actors back from the animated series is also a great plus for fans of the series. The guns sound also really authentic and makes you want to shoot a robot right in the face with great results.
Overall
With players given the choice between abilities, lots of weapons, transforming, great story and just a lot of choice for the player. The story might be linear, but they player gets to choose how they want to play. It never truly feels like you are just passing through and actually experiencing a greay game. If you can look past a few flaws, it is a really great game to have in your library

Sun, 12 May 2013 14:12:36 -0700 The_Last_Ride reviewed Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 for the PlayStation 3... http://www.gamespot.com/call-of-duty-modern-warfare-2/user-reviews/811234/platform/ps3/ ...and gave it a 7.5.

Modern Warfare 2 continues the campaign and the pushes the franchise forward in the modern setting even further. The multiplayer returns as we are used to in the series.
Spec Ops is a nice change of pace making Co-Op avaliable over internet and locally. This mode contains of waves of enemies coming against you and trying to survive with a friend on your side. There are three difficulties for each map, and you are able to test your skills how much you can plan and use skills to get through the waves of enemies.
The multiplayer is also back with new perks, weapons, and levels. This time around there are 10 prestiges to do. If someone wants a real challenge and try to level up again 10 times with all the challenges and weapons, it's a nice change of pace.
The Bad:
The singleplayer is as forgetable as ever. The player takes control over several persons through the campaign and gets you a perspective of things. This had worked, if the story had some sort of depth. But all it really is, is a shallow attempt at an action movie. Some might also be shocked from the infamous airport level, but this game is also labeled as mature. The plot tries to take itself seriously, but when you eventually see plot twists coming from a mile away and all of the levels being very linear. When i mean linear, it's basicly either a stand off trying to survive enemies, escort missions, corridor shooting or simple running from A to B. There are no alternative ways to actually engage the enemy when the actual fire begins. Everything is control with smaller quick time events and very scripted events through the whole story. There are no alternate ways to play the levels. There are intel packs to be collected in each level, but there is barely any exploring. It does not give the player any creativity when it comes to the gameplay itself. The whole singleplayer is basicly just point and shoot with cinematics explosions with forgetable dialogue and characters.

The graphics on the console aren't as good as the pc counterpart, and it shows if you have seen the pc version. Some framerate issues can be seen on the console version.

The Good:
The gameplay is very solid, making tweaks to make it more solid. The gameplay mechanics really shine through in the multiplayer where you can choose your own weapons and perks to your liking and play the way you really want to. The multiplayer has enough depth and options to give the players of this game a good reason to play it.

The sound of the gun mechanics and the game itself are solid, and don't have any real flaws. The guns sound good enough to make the player believe the gun sounds coming out of the actual guns when shooting them.

Spec Ops gives the player also a reason to try out the Co-Op part of the game with several difficulties. Makes it possible to have a friend locally or over internet to play with you. These levels are well designed and could give players that want to explore this part of the game much fun to be had.

Even though most of the singleplayer is plain, the voice actors make it relevant to even take notice of these shallow characters. Making them believable and humane. If there is anything that is good about the singleplayer it would be the voice acting, even though the story and the way the character progress is really shallow.

Overall:
It's a good multiplayer game for those that want either a Co-Op experience or a massive online expeience, then this should be in your collection. But if you want to get this game for it's singleplayer, you should stay away from it. Because it has nothing of depth in there or even worth exploring.

Tue, 07 May 2013 08:26:26 -0700 The_Last_Ride reviewed Assassin's Creed III for the Xbox 360... http://www.gamespot.com/assassins-creed-iii/user-reviews/811091/platform/xbox360/ ...and gave it a 8.0.

In this sequel to the Assassin's Creed games, we visit early colonial America. It starts with Haytham Kenway and him making his way to the new America to search for where his relics may be of use. He is also searching for clues left behind by Minerva and Juno that both Assassin's and Templars are looking for. This part of the story is very linear and serves as an origin story. There is a little plot twist after you are done with his story. After a few hours in you take over Connor, Kenway's son and continue the story from there.
There is a new setting setting in this game never shown before with the forest and animals being a part of the game. Hunting and skinning animals are also part of the game. This game does not have any upgrades when it comes to the home where the character is settled.
The whole setting takes the whole american revolution and takes the fictional characters such as Haytham and Connor and puts them right in the middle of them. They also have real characters such as George Washington, Benjamin Franklin and other known persons from that era.
The gameplay and combat itself has been changed a little bit. The counter system has been worked on and needs more timing than before. This can make confronting larger more challenging

The bad:
Something that sticks out right away after the beginning is that guards recognize you immediately if you just have one on your notorious level. You get recognized faster when you are on rooftops, it does not give you any incentive to actually climb the houses in the cities of New York and Boston. The posters for you to get noticed less is even removed from your map entirely making it harder for you to lose your character getting noticed by guards.

The modern part of the story also has a bigger role in this, which isn't bad. But the sour note the game. With the game ending on the biggest cliffhanger in the entire Assassin's Creed series. The other ones in the series, might not have a a real ending except for Revelations ending Ezio's and Altairs story. They just leave one big question mark and break the entire series with such a an ending. It will be a big dissapointment for those that have played all of the games and might even anger some.

The new homestead isn't upgradable and doesn't really give you any incentive to go deeper. It gives you more story to some characters if you are invested in the game and want a little more story to it. Some are interesting, but they consist mostly of fetch quests and mostly consist you doing the same with helping them with something they can't do themselves. They can be really tedious to do if you can't get invested in the characters. The upgrades and shipments you do with the homestead are pretty much useless and doesn't really give any depth to the game. Looking at the result of this design decision it is not clear what was suppose to be the meaning of this whole system.

The counter system doesn't always respond the way you want it to, and get often hit even though the timing is good.

The good:
The graphics of this game are a really big upgrade to the previous games in the series, and it is really stunning to watch, wether it is the cutscenes or exploring the world. It is truly beautiful to look at.

The characters of this story are strong, some might be used to the idea of a character of the likes of Ezio and Altair. They have to keep in mind that this is a whole new character, with his own story and problems. The voice acting is great, and give depth to the characters and the story itself. Even though that i have mentioned that the "modern" ending for the game ends on a big cliffhanger, doesn't mean that this game doesn't have a good story. Connors and Haytham's story through this game is really good and worth experiencing.

The audio and sound effects are well made and the mood it sets when traveling in the forest is really important, could have felt really empty if this wasn't case.

The gameplay has also improved. The climbing has never been this fun, even though the game does not give you any real incentive to actually climb and explore the rooftops because of troops, doesn't mean the mechanics for it are bad. Far from it, it's never been this much fun to actually climb which is really sad when the notorious system undermines this mostly.
The combat is more realistic and requires the user to time the counters more, it can be really fun when have a few opponents and really dominate them, but when you have several enemies against you it can work against you.

Overall this is a mixed bag, there is enough though to actually play this game, even though some might be dissapointed with this being the biggest and best in the series, it is far from being a bad game. It is worth a shot if you are an Assassin's Creed fan, but also keep in mind, this might not be the overall best game. I did not encounter many bugs in my Xbox version, but that doesn't mean this is free of bugs and glitches.

Fri, 26 Apr 2013 03:21:13 -0700 The_Last_Ride reviewed Assassin's Creed: Revelations for the PlayStation 3... http://www.gamespot.com/assassins-creed-revelations/user-reviews/810689/platform/ps3/ ...and gave it a 8.5.

In this game we catch up with Ezio where he travels to the east and explore new area of the world. We see a very mature Ezio compared to the others, and we notice he is more patient and he has become older. In this new game he starts with basicly new sleight and leaves everyone from Assassin's Creed 2 and Brotherhood. New characters and targets are the focus to refuse the templars to take over this beautiful new city and kingdom. The mechanics are what you are used to in earlier games of the earlier games. It has more upgrades as found in the two earlier games and you are still able to conquer areas and buy shops to upgrade the gear and get more money. This game also introduces bombs which you can use as decoys, distractions and as weapons.

The Bad:
The bad thing that sticks out, is that this game is more of the same and doesn't really have any big new update avaliable for it. There is no graphics update for it, it looks a little better than the others, but doesn't have any real new update. It also lacks in variety when it comes to new missions, they will seem familiar to old players

The Good:
The gameplay has been refined and his better than ever with. New animations and better combat gives it the best combat system to date in the series. The upgrades for the weapon is just as good as the previous game, and doesn't ruin it, but introdouces some new weapons in it instead of just copy and pasting.

The underground puzzles are actually more fun and very well done this time around. They have a total new feel and it's not the same slow paced platform puzzles as the last ones in the series. These are more fun in the sense that you just run through them as fast as possible trying to reach your targets in some of them. The bombs also make for a nice new addition to make the gameplay more dynamic and trying to do something new.

The story starts with a bang, but goes slowly after the first sequence and slowly builds up. This game may lack supporting characters that Assassin's Creed 2 and Brotherhood, but having Altair and fewer stronger characters in this game is refreshing. This game is probably the most heartwarming and heartbreaking at the same time in the series. It's a really well told story of both Ezio and the flashbacks of Altair. It's a worthy ending to both Ezio and Altair, and it truly shows us how great of characters those two are.

The setting doesn't have the same flair as the two earlier games in the series, but it's beautiful to look at. It has also challenges for the player to explore as much as the earlier games.

A great technical racing game with the F1 licence. This game is an excellent example of how you use your licence exactly how it is suppose to be used. The Formula 1 has several modes where you can get a challenge out of the game. There is the Proving Grounds, Champions Mode and the Career modes to explore.
Proving grounds is a good way to casual players to be introduced to the game. Championship Mode gives the player a challenge by going against the biggest stars in challenges to beat them. Career mode has the regular mode to be expected out of a career mode. Where the player progresses and gets contracted to the bigger teams and trying to get to the top.
The bad:
The presentation of the game seems generic and has no personality to it. There is a certain slick look to it, but it doesn't really say a lot about the game.
The game can be very punishing for those that aren't very experienced with the game. If you make a mistake it can cost you dearly if you aren't careful. The tutorial does introduce you to the game and what is in it, but it is very short and doesn't have a lot of depth for new players in the series. There is also not a lot of help for newcomers how to tune the car or go deeper. But that can be explored if you have patience and play the game a lot. Experienced players won't have a hard time here.
The Good:
The racing experience might be the most technical in the racing genre to date. If you handle the car right and know what to do with it, then there is a lot of reward for the player and the game will become just plain fun to play.
All of the modes can give you enough challenge for some time, and if you don't find that challenging enough, there is always the option to turn assists off.
The online part of the game is really strong, and can be quite fun. There is no issue with lag spikes in the game, unless the player has a shady internet connection.
The gameplay is solid in every way, though it can take time to get quite the hang of things. It will be fun when you can master tracks and corners on tracks like the stars.
The sound is also magnificent to hear when you play. The roar of the engine is magnificent to hear and really gives life to the game
It's a great game overall, might be a little tough for newcomers. But if you spend some time with the game it is a game to be enjoted for racing lovers.

Fri, 19 Apr 2013 18:57:46 -0700 The_Last_Ride reviewed Tomb Raider for the PlayStation 3... http://www.gamespot.com/tomb-raider/user-reviews/810436/platform/ps3/ ...and gave it a 9.5!

Tomb Raider has a whole new take on Lara Croft and her adventures. It starts with a young version of Lara Croft shipwrecked on a mysterious island and she finds herself lost and captured by a bunch of mystics that worships an ancient goddess.
The Bad:
If there is anything bad about it it would be that the multiplayer seems tacked on and isn't really necessary for the game. Even though the multiplayer has some potential it has too few modes and variety to make it compete with other multiplayer games in the action genre.
The Good:
The story is great, it's not over the top, but has some sci-fi elements to it. It's a perfect balance and make Lara really stand out. The other characters are great and support Lara making this a strong story. But in the end it is Lara's story, she really stands out and it shows her struggle and courage through the entire game. The pacing of the game is also really good. You don't start out guns blazing, but has a carefully thought beginning. It starts slowly and then goes deep into what the island is and who Lara really is. She seems scared and vulnerable at first, but her courage is huge and really makes Lara a strong character.
The gameplay is really strong and you can upgrade weapons and skills that make the way you play and your tools more effective as you progress through the game. It is deep enough to explore and have fun with. The puzzles through the game can be very challenging to some, and you might have to search the net for some walkthroughs. In the end they can also be done with patience and a little thought.
The island has really it's own life and brings life to the game with animals and it's own mystisism. The different areas are really well thought out and sometimes just looking at the view of the island can be stunning.
The graphics are really stunning. Just looking at the ocean or hunting deer, it is a really beautiful game and it shines through that the style they went for this game.
The voiceover for all the characters and Lara are top notch and gives more life to Lara and her fellow crew members and the island itself. It also gives all of the characters more credibility and makes the story better overall.
The audio is spot on and doesn't too much and doesn't too little to make anything overly dramatic, but doesn't overlook anything either.

Wed, 10 Apr 2013 15:37:05 -0700 The_Last_Ride reviewed Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood for the PlayStation 3... http://www.gamespot.com/assassins-creed-brotherhood/user-reviews/810073/platform/ps3/ ...and gave it a 9.0!

This game takes Ezio to Rome and goes deeper in to the story of the Borgias. The story this time around is a little shorter, but has all the supporting characters that were helping Ezio in his first game.

The bad:
The recipe hasn't changed much since Assassin's Creed 2 and will seem very familiar to some that might expect something entirely new. It doesn't really do anything revolutionary compared to what happened between Assassin's Creed 1 and 2. It doesn't make anything major new to the game. There isn't a lot of depth in the new assassin training system.

there are some framerate issues here and there that can be noticable and some minore bugs when climbing.

The good:
First of all, the story is really really good. Though the story might be shorter, it is still very good. You also have more to do when it comes to upgrades, training assassins and buying shops, collecting Flags, getting Romulus keys, assassinations, etc.
Exploring Tombs is something that was tedious work in Assassin's Creed 2, where the was little to no variation. This has been improved in Brotherhood. Upgrading shops has even more to it, then the last game, and if the player wants to explore this side of the game it has more depth than in the second game in the series.
Assassinating Captains gives you a challenge to get more upgrades, shops, landmarks and viewpoints in the game that makes the player play a little different. Training Assassins can be fun to explore and is a great new feature. Giving you help when needed in certain missions. There is still a lot to do in the game. Everything the game does new and old is refined. Mechanics that were annoying or tedious in the last game have been made to actually be exciting. As en example of that; parkour is more fun than ever and the game has constantly something to do for you wether it is just following the main story or for you to explore Rome with Ezio.

The story is still as good as every game in the series and keeps on having a strong support cast in this game. The story of betrayal and the suffering that Ezio still has to go through with losing family is still strong in this game, and keeps him going as a character.

The setting is as good as the last game, giving it warmth and a huge game to explore with either climbing known places or just watching how beautiful this game really is.

The graphics is still beautiful to look at, and the city sure takes care of that. Even though the engine for this game hasn't been updated, it is still a pretty game to look at

If you want this game to have a drastically change to the mechanics and story, then this is probably something not for you. But if you want a refined game that refines everything and does it very well.

Sun, 24 Mar 2013 13:02:23 -0700 The_Last_Ride reviewed Assassin's Creed II for the PlayStation 3... http://www.gamespot.com/assassins-creed-ii/user-reviews/809311/platform/ps3/ ...and gave it a 9.5!

Assassin's Creed continues the story of Desmond exploring his ancestors in the Animus. The story this time takes place in Italy. Where you meet known persons like Leonardo Da Vinci and other significant important historic characters.

The bad:
There are some issues with the framerates at some locations which can be very annoying. Camera angles and controls can be frustrating when climbing in certain areas or scenario's. AI can seem to see through walls or just keep hunting you longer than they should be able to at some points. Glitch that made me assassinate a target without even doing something(therefore completing the mission without even doing it).

The Good:
The story is very well done and built up over time in this game. We see Ezio from birth to arrogant teenager rebel to an adult assassin. The story has strong characters in both villains and sidekicks. Ezio also shines on his own. His loss of family and gaining a new identity as an Assassin is something very important to the story. Seing this character grow up and dealing with issues of loss and morale choices makes the character strong and believable.

The gameplay has been changed and tuned. Everything about the first game which concerns combat, quests, sidequests crafting, etc. They have managed to make a much better game than the previous one in all aspects. The free climbing and synchronizing towers have never been this much fun. It's pretty much effortless and fun to climb them. It can also be more challenging trying to climb towers, churches etc. The so called Scroll of Romulus lairs can be challenging puzzles to solve. It also gives a slower pace to the game and can be great to explore if you want to. These are optional for players off course.

You can explore the world to a much bigger degree also where you can have races, contracts to do hits on specific targets outside the main quests, hunting codex pages, upgrading your armor and improve on your city.
The graphics have also a distinct artstyle and shines through more in this game where you travel to Venice, Florence and Tuscany. The sites can be quite beautiful to look at and all the cities and location all have their own character to give to the game.

It has a lot to offer, and if you ignore the small imperfections you will have a blast playing this game. It's a lot better than the second game, and if you enjoyed the second a little bit or just enjoy action games in general you should try this game out

Heroes: Might & Magic 3 is a great game in a fantasy setting where you can play a campaign or just have a fun skirmish by yourself or with buddies and just have a great time. The game has a turn based battle systen and good economic system for you to manage.
The bad:
The battles can be somewhat repetative in some points. Some of factions are a little unevenly balanced. For instance is Conflux majorly underpowered from all the factions. Inferno also has some balance issues concerning starters and middle level guys
The Good:
Everything about this game is sublime. The faction are pretty well balanced and there are enough factions for you to choose from and heroes to use. There are many mythic creatures you can take to your liking. Tactics, army building, economic and managing heroes with them. It has very strategic pieces in it that makes the game stand out and worth playing. The battles are great and the progression making your hero better when you win battles or find chests with xp. This can be both strategically good or bad relying on one hero only. If you loose this hero, he is gone for good and all the progression is gone. The game can be brutally hard and fair at the same time. This game is what future games should take a note from in the turn based fantasy genre.

This is the first game where you take part of the Assassin's Creed where the goal is to fight power grabbing individuals that brainwash people. You play as the character Alltair. Who is an Assassin in a order who has to redeem himself after doing himself and others wrong and start from scratch to regain honor.
The bad:
The gameplay suffers from clunky and doesn't always work at times. The blending function is also clunky making you blend in to the crowd making you choose not a route chosen by you. The fighting can also be very tedious at times and is just not that great. The quests are basicly the same through the whole game, the only way to get some variety is to do the sidequests. The alert system also seems to be lacking a deeper function.
The good:
The parkour is stellar in the game, and does very much right here. It is truly fun to run over rooftops and just have plain fun doing that. The story is also very good and has strong characters all the way. The voice over is good and makes them believable characters.

I would say it's a good story with great freerunning, but with quests and combat that is very repetative

Mon, 04 Feb 2013 07:07:59 -0800 The_Last_Ride reviewed Dragon Ball Z Budokai HD Collection for the Xbox 360... http://www.gamespot.com/dragon-ball-z-budokai-hd-collection/user-reviews/807084/platform/xbox360/ ...and gave it a 9.5!

The HD version of Dragonball Z: Budokai shows you how a game can age very well and still look good even after 8 years since it was released. This is a perfect example of how an HD collection should be made.
The bad:
They did not add anything to the game, one could argue that is a good or a bad thing. But this game did not have online mode 8 years ago. They could have added it since this game is very competitive and could have been a great feature for the game. Also The first Budokai game shows clearly it has it struggles as a fighting game, but it is a nice addition to the HD version and it gives you a different feel then the third game.
It might be hard for new users of this game to unlock everything asnd might use guides to unlock all characters and modes
The Good:
Everything is good about the game, that was good 8 years ago. Everything about Budokai 3 has aged very well and is still one of the best fighters there are this millenium.
The game also aged very well, with graphics that looked sharp on the ps2, look even sharper now. But the graphics is something that has aged really well and has not required the most attention i believe.
The basic combat is also very solid, and can still compete with games that are made today. That is saying something about how good this game still is. The teleportation and ki managment makes the game more tactical. Button mashing won't help you at all when playing this game
Audio in this game is also really sharp, and is one of the best aspects of the games. There is something very satifying doing punches and getting the sound for that. Also the rest of the ultamate attacks are still very well done.
The game might be a little harder for newcomers to enjoy, but the story doesn't take a whole lot of time if you want to get to know the story of Dragonball Z.

If you want a solid fighter that still is great today, then get this game. It's such a great fighteing game

This is the first entry in the Little Big Planet Karting series. There is an obvious inspiration from Modnation Racers. But has it's own features and own sense of style and is not a copy of it.
The Bad:
There are little tweaks that could have made the game better in general. Like building your items during a race is not a possibility. It would have been nice to see the carts having some minor differences in handling and speed. The AI can be very punishing or very easy on the same level which can make it hard for some gamers to enjoy completely as it can be punishing some times.
The Good:
The multiplayer is easy to use and enjoy. The menu's aren't very hard to navigate. Costumizing tracks on however you want them to be. A lot of tracks to choose from. There is a lot of ways to costumize your cart and character. The gameplay itself with the light humor of story is easy to enjoy and just let it unfold. The gameplay is very good, making it easy to enter the game, and the tutorial ensures you know what you will do after just a few minutes. It's an easy game to pick up and just play the heck out of it. It gives you good value if you play through the story and also try the multiplayer

This game is great in every aspect and will not dissapoint a basketball fan in any regard whatsoever. Association is well done and will keep you busy a long time. The online mode will let you join others and friends to compete with each other. My Player mode lets you control a single player on the court and try to make the best out of it. Also Teammate challange can get you hooked
The bad:
Framerate issues can get very bad on the xbox sometimes where it can delay the game seconds where the game just freezes. This can get very annoying, espcially when it happens several times in a game. There also seems the focus on the association mode has been slightly forgotten to make the other modes such as Teammate challenge, online and My player mode to be a little more focused than the Association itself.
The Good:
it's a fantastic game to play, with a lot to do. There isn't a lot to say here, but only that this is an amazing game with great gameplay and features to explore. If you let it, you can just spend hours and hours just having plain fun with the game.

A worthy end of Shepards journey. The story of Shepard comes to an end in this last game in the trilogy, and boy was it worth it.
The negative:
the only negative i can say about it is that the end doesn't really make up for all the choices you make.
The positive:
the gameplay is sharp and doesn't really have any big flaws and works smoothly through the game. The graphics are amazing and keeps the entire game just beautiful. The story gets old characters back and relive some heartbreaking moments. The entire story has wits, feeling, nerve and great characters. The reapers being the ultimate advisery, not just fighting to end a war, but for survival for everything in the galaxy. The game can be very philosophical if you want it to be and think over it. This game marks how a game should be made to end a series and how to make a beautiful trilogy. The beautiful music just adds to the experience, which is something of the most beautiful music i have heard in a game.
The multiplayer just adds to the experience and can keep you invested longer in the game.
Overall superb game

A great new multiplayer focused brawler made exclusively for the ps3. First of all this might look like a Smash Bros rehash only with new characters and moves. But this is where this comparisment is wrong. First of all the bad.
The bad.
Story mode is short and has too little interaction. Menu's are very little polished and makes to hard to actually choosing what you want. Online can sometimes be a little laggy depending on whom you play with.
The good:
The gameplay is very good. Playing with a friend might be the most optimal experience, also i have had most fun with it that way. Online can be very competitive as much as it is fun. The gameplay itself is very much fun and can be fun for the whole family.
The story in the game is pretty good, with a short cinematic and pictures explaining the character or the future for it. But too bad they are so short and are over so fast.
There are also enough characters and stages to have enough variety with also having a change of pace with items in the mix.
In the end, pretty good game with a lot of potential, but lacks in some ways to be a truly supreme game

Tue, 18 Dec 2012 19:56:58 -0800 The_Last_Ride reviewed Hitman: Absolution for the PlayStation 3... http://www.gamespot.com/hitman-absolution/user-reviews/804898/platform/ps3/ ...and gave it a 9.0!

Hitman Absolution gives us a more personal history, great gameplay and a good way to explore to play stealth
The bad:
The framerate in the game might be bad at times, but not so bad that it disturbes the game or cinematics. The villains of the game are very much cartoonish in their style, but still not so bad that they aren't believable. The guards or any armed npc have an easy time to recognize you even with a great or right disguise for getting through the checkpoint. The game can be very punishing at times that even makes you have to shoot yourself out of the level or die at most times.
The good:
The stealth game and level design is very well planned out. You can play the game the way you want regarding the gameplay. You can go in guns blazing and kill everyone or try to go in the stealthy way. Trying to make it look like an accident or just to kill the actual targets makes the way you approach the game in very different games.
Shooting mechanic works very smoothly. The point shooting in the game is also a very neat feature if you are in a tight spot and want to make it quickly and clean. The instinct feature also helps to where the targets is going or where guards are in the level. Everything important is shown in the instinct mode.
The story also shows a more personal story of Agent 47. Where you see a more personal approach to Agent 47. The villains take most of the dialogue and make it a good experience.
Contracts mode is a pleasent surprise to kill a specific target in level that is not the regular target for that level. The way to kill this target does also depend on what the contracts says.
