Good morning. You have just woken up on the beach of Chernarus, the fictional version of Modern Day Russia. You are not alone here. There could be up to 100 (and counting) other actual people in this strange land. You have a look about and realize, it's the **** zombie apocalypse.

Except there's something marvelous about this zombie apocalypse. There's no objective or waypoint, telling you where to go. There is no pre-determined path you must take shrouded by debris and invisible walls. There is none of that. You are armed with only your manhood and your beans. You must treasure your beans, for they may save your life. Being that there is no objective in the game (mod), you will probably make your own general goals. A very basic and common goal shared amongst players is to survive. This doesn't mean laying in a bush far away from everything all day. You need to find food, water, guns, ammunition, etc.

If you want to live. You're going to need more beans. As you travel through small villages you may stumble upon some of the games larger cities such as Cherno, Elektro, Berezino, Vybor, or one of the many military encampments. These types of places offer just what you need to survive. But if the surrounding zombies weren't enough to sneak around/carve your way through; there are up to 100 other paranoid players that could potentially be around the corner or up in the surrounding hills. This game will often question your own morality. If you die, you lost everything. There are no skills, but you lose all of your gear you respawn on the coast. That's why seeing other players is so tense. Could they be a worthy ally/friend? Or are they just looking to advance their loot by putting a quick bullet in your head rather than spend the time palling around with you. You don't know, and you may just end up being part of the vicious cycle of banditry.

If you're a hardcore player you can find a tent and set up a camp in the woods. There are also vehicles which are extremely rare in the game which must be repaired or stolen from other players to drive.

DayZ is still in alpha, which is why this review is more of a summary of the experience rather than a critique. However I will jump into a bit of a review.

Sound: The game has it's own soundtrack which is quite nice. The music is tense and may frighten you when you first play. For a mod, it's has a rather high production quality. Although after playing the game for a while, there could be more tracks. You can always turn the in-game music off.

Visuals: DayZ is obviously a mod for ArmA II. A highly-acclaimed military simulator. The graphics are quite nice but 3d models and textures can get quite repetitive. As you realize that all towns share at least one of the same building models.

Gameplay: I feel the PVP aspect of the game is brilliant. As long as the server ping is relativley low, hit detection seems alright. But I hear a lot of people complaining about it on the DayZ forums. The PVZ (zombies) is fun for a while, but the "herky-jerky" movement of the zombies seems more buggy than it does authentic. All zombies are ridiculously fast at the time of writing this. They will match you in speed but are slow in doors. You can lost them around corners and through buildings. I believe the way forward with this mod is to have different zombie types. For instance it would be nice to see some George Romero style zombies that are slow, but spawn in numbers and walk with their arms out front.

There could be some larger tank zombies.

And even some Bear Grylls zombies that find solace in the wilderness and roam the forests as currently, there is no danger from zombies in the forests.

All in all, this mod is worth playing. It is the first piece of viral interactive media to tap the zombie survival market, and it has kicked the market off with a bang.

I'm sure with the amount of attention DayZ has gathered we will be seeing games like it from multiple developers in the future.

Sun, 16 Oct 2011 08:52:58 -0700 MAZRUINESS reviewed Dead Island for the Xbox 360... http://www.gamespot.com/dead-island/user-reviews/777143/platform/xbox360/ ...and gave it a 9.0!

DEAD ISLAND:

= My experience with Dead Island =

Dead Island was one of my most anticipated games of 2011.
I was so hyped and excited about it whenever i saw its trailer or gameplay.
When the game was released , I felt a bit disappointed with its reviews.
Gamers started saying that this game was a let down and that it had a lot of bugs/glitches.
To be honest, From the moment i started playing it,
I felt like i was completely taken out of this world and droped in dead island.
Even when i was going to college , my body was there but my mind was in dead island. lol!
The game was phenomenal!
I never came upon any glitches or bugs.
This game was exactly how i wished it to be.
Everything about it was just awesome.
It is one of the reasons why i love first-person games.

THE GOOD:

- Killing a zombie was so satisfying especially with upgraded weapons.
- Great upgrading system.
- The map of the island was very well designed.
- The Zombie screams and voices brought tension.

THE BAD:

- Human lip syncing was bad.
- The cutsences could have been improved.

GAME SCORE:

Graphics: 8.8/10
Sound: 9.7/10
Gameplay: 9.7/10
Cutscenes: 8/10
Addictiveness: 9.5/10

Overall: 9.1/10

Bottom line: The best Zombie game that i've ever played. period!

TRANSFORMERS: WAR FOR CYBERTRON

To be honest this was one of those games that i was never interested to buy and play.
It's because of the stupid critic reviews that keep on giving good games like this a very low score.
Transformers: WFC just became one of my favourite games of all time.
It felt like i was playing vanquish but with a better story and characters.
The game is long, fun and addictive to play. It becomes better with every chapter that you play.
Everything about it was just so impressive.

THE GOOD:

- Great and memorable boss fights.
- Being a Transformer makes you feel like a bad ass!
- Every transformer has a unique power.
- Good level design.
- The story makes you understand the difference between autobots and decepticons.
- Fun Multiplayer.
- Great voice acting.

Completed on July 2011

Difficulty: Hard

GAMESCORE:

Gameplay: 9/10
Story: 8.9/10
Graphics: 8.5/10
Sound: 8.4/10

Overall: 8.7/10

Bottom line: A must own for any Transformers fan and a consideration for everyone else too!

Operation Flashpoint : Red River

O.F.R.R is one of the most unique tactical first-person shooter games that i've ever played.
The game is nothing like Call Of Duty. Infact, if you're a hardcore call of duty fan then you will not like O.F.R.R.
The game plays in the mountain desert of Tajikistan where you guide your team members and shoot your enemies tactically from a really long distance.
Killing an enemy is satisfying , however it might not be easy to see or kill your target because of a very limited amount of sniper weapons that you will only be able to enjoy towards the end of the game.
The game is quite lengthy with 10 chapters involved. Each chapter lasts around an hour to complete on normal difficulty level.
The story on the other hand is almost non-existent. You will just be briefed on what you are suppose to do throughout your mission.
The graphics are also good but not great.
I had a very good time playing this game but there were some few missions that were not enjoyable.
This is a type of game that you will only want to complete once and never get back to it again.

THE GOOD

- Killing an enemy from a long distance shot is satisfying.
- Good and funny voice act.
- The last three chapters are really engaging.

THE BAD

- Very long walking distances.
- Checkpoints are far from each other throughout the missions.
- No story/cutscenes.
- Some enemies appear unexpectedly which causes sudden deaths.

GAME SCORE:

Gameplay: 7.5/10
Sound: 8/10
Graphics: 7.6/10
Story: 3/10
Addictiveness: 6.8/10

Overall: 6.2/10

L.A NOIRE

L.A NOIRE is a type of game that i was never interested in buying until i saw the new face capture technology that was used.
The graphics looked amazing so i told myself that i was gonna get the game.
It is true that the graphics were awesome but what about the gameplay? Was it addictive for me to play?
The answer is no.
The game was something very new and unique from any other type of games out there.
The main character is an LAPD officer named Cole Phelps who investigates and solves crimes.
Cole Phelps searches for clues around crime scenes which leads him to suspect's names and their locations.
The good Part about this game is when you interrogate your suspects.
Interrogation is much harder because you must first select the question to ask.
After asking a question You are then suppose to look at how the suspect responds and read their faces.
After reading their faces you will then decide as to whether they are lying or telling the truth.
The fun part about the game is knowing whether you did the right decision or not.

THE GOOD:

- car chases.
- Interrogations.
- Gun fights.

THE BAD:

- car chases and gun fights are not many.
- Too many glitches and freezing of the game.
- Many cases were boring.

GAME SCORE:

Gameplay: 7.5/10
Graphics: 9.4/10
Sound: 8.5/10
Story: 7/10
Addictivness: 5/10

Overall: 7.4/10

Bottom line: The game is fun but not addictive.

Let's be honest here for just a few moments people. Who here is already tired of all the countless zombie games? Left 4 Dead, Killing Floor, Zombies from Black Ops, you probably wondering what Dead Island is doing now with all the zombie goodness. Well, I can tell you that Dead Island will become a sleeper hit and here's a few things why.

Dead Island is your zombie game but with the added twist. Taking stuff from Dead Rising and Fallout 3, players are on an island (duh) and for some reason, zombies are popping out and it's up to you to figure out what is going on around here. In a first person perspective, you travel the island as one of four characters, each with a story of their own, as you take everything and anything as a weapon in order to fight off the living dead. But wait, there's more to this game then what meets the eye.

The weapons can range from a 2x4 or a paddle to swords and guns (guns will actually come way later in the game, took me a couple of gameplay hours to see a pistol). On top of that, mods improve your weapons in some way, like giving a sword an extra kick of electricity or wrapping barbed wire on a bat for more damage. However, using the weapons will lose their durability after awhile and it's best to find a workbench to fix it up before it brakes. And to make things even more interesting, you have a stamina bar, which depletes whenever you run or swing a weapon around. Once that is empty, you are left standing there and won't defend yourself for a few seconds.

Does Dead Island have a plot? Yes in some way but it's never really explained. There are three Acts in the whole game and you start getting somewhere after you start the third act. Even if that means you have to explore the entire island, it's worth to see the beauty (and deadly) view. The graphics are nice as you travel from the hotel where you start to deep in the jungle.

Another kick in Dead Island is that it's like an RPG. Every zombie you encounter and kill have their own health bar and exp. bar. Once you kill them, you gain whatever exp. they have. As you progress in the game, the zombies get harder and new kinds of zombies appear before you that are deadlier then the last. You have your Walkers, who roam the area in search for food or to kill a player. And then we got the Infected, which charges at the player at lightning speed and will attack, wailing their arms at you. And then the Thug, which wail their arms at you, sending you flying backwards. And then, there are the Special Infected.

The Floater spews out acid at you, blinding you in green ooze as you take damage from it. The Ram will charge at you, knocking you down and can kick you, sending a massive amount of health down with you. The Butcher has no arms but it's bones are sharp at the tip and will cut you into pieces. Last but not least is The Suicider, its deformed body cries for help as it explodes on you, killing you instantly. The player must think of ways to defeat each new zombies and this is where the element of fun happens.

At first, I started playing and I'm like, this game is another zombie game. Many hours later, I'm running for my life as zombies start attacking me from every direction. Plus with the exp gained for a certain character will unlock other abilities for that character as well. Some reduces melee damage while others increases the exp. for breaking the bones of the zombie. The game itself is slow at the beginning but it slowly picks up just when you start Act II. With an entire island to explore, it's no wonder why this game is becoming popular. The other day when I went to Gamestop with my friends, I was talking to one of the workers and said that every other Gamestops in my city had sold out of Dead Island so most likely it will become a good sleep hit as we head into the fall.

Now you must be wondering, what about the mulitiplayer aspect of the game? Well, I can believe that working with a team is better then working alone (trust me on this, I died many times during my single player run at the game so I can say that playing with others is better). And if you have all four of the main characters in one game, then the chances of you surviving the game are that much greater but the zombies become more tougher to kill. Just be sure to start a new game with four level 1 players, it's best to have it equal then unbalanced. *At this point, I have yet to try it myself but I will write more in the future*

Aside from a few things, Dead Island is a game I can recommend to most gamers, if they want a nice RPG game or to fight hundreds of zombies, the game won't disappoint if you like that kind of game. Giving it an 8 out of 10, I'm sure to come back to the island again and again.

DUKE NUKEM: FOREVER

D.N.F was one of my most anticipated games of 2011.
I fell in love with it immediately after i saw its trailer.
I think it's because of how dirty it looked! *(o,-)* LOL!
So i told myself that i was gonna buy the game on its release date and i did.
I was so hyped and excited about it.
When i reached home, the first thing i did was to look at its review on IGN.
Damn it! I felt so disappointed in it even before I started playing.
However, I still inserted the disk in my console and gave it a shot.
After playing the first 2 chapters, i just couldn't take it anymore.
I was so pissed off by how bad the game was.
so i kept it on the shelves and told myself that i'll never play it again.
But recently, after going through my game collection, I came across it and something urged me to give it another chance.
After the first 2 chapters the game turned out to be surprisingly good.
Not good as in "wow!!!" but as in "Not bad!"
The graphics looked outdated but at least i was not expecting anything more considering that the game was developed for about 14 years.
The gameplay was old school and arcade-ish.
The weapons were like only 6.
The enemies were repeatedly the same but it wasn't boring to kick their asses.
The game also has a lot of Half-life 2 like puzzles. Some were good while others were not well designed.
Overall i enjoyed the game a lot but the question is, am i still gonna try and beat the game again after some years to come?
The answer is no, never. I'll just keep it in my game collection and treasure the memories i had with it.

Time spent to complete the game: 2 nights.

GAME SCORE:

Game play: 7/10
Story: 6/10
Sound: 6.8/10
Addictiveness: 6.6/10

Overall: 6.6/10

Bottom line: It's not as bad as people may say it is but not worth a purchase. Just a rental.

MASS EFFECT:

Mass effect 1 was one of those games that i bought because its got good reviews and a lot of people love it.
I've been a game collector ever since i started college (2010).
Whenever I go through my collection and see a game that i haven't completed, my heart breaks.
So whenever i buy a game , i have to make sure that i'll complete it no matter how bad that game is.
Mass effect 1 was my first RPG game that I've ever played.
As soon as i inserted the disc in my console, i knew that the game was gonna be awesome!
Boy was i wrong! The game SUCKED ass! I'm telling you , Everything about this game was just boring.
The story was lame, the conversations were long and what bothered me the most was the fact that i had to complete this game.
Another problem is with the mission point.
Once you finish having a conversation , you'll have no idea where you're supposed to go next.
I'm sure you're gonna need to read a guide/walkthrough just to know where you're suppose to go.
The only thing that kept my head up was the shooting, it wasn't that good but at least i enjoyed it.
I spent 4 nights completing this game and it was not worth it.
Trust me , you do not wanna play this game especially if you're not a fan of RPG games.
This is now one of the most boring games that i had to complete , it felt like hell! :@ ---> LOL!

GAME SCORE:

Game play: 4/10
Graphics: 7/10
Story: 2/10
Sound: 6/10
Addictiveness: 1/10

Overall: 4/10 (poor)

Bottom line: This is my first and last story based RPG game that i'll ever play.

BORDERLANDS:

Ever since i bought my xbox 360 i always believed that for a game to be good , it has to have a good story in it.
Infact I never played any game that has no story in it.(E.G: LEFT 4 DEAD , Unreal tournament 3)
I always felt like they don't give me a good reason to play.
Borderlands has just proved me wrong and I now believe that a game can still be good even if the story is almost non-existent.
Borderland is now one of my favorite FPS game.
The game has a theme of its own with beautiful art graphics.
It's true that the story is almost non-existent but trust me, once you start playing this game, you won't want to do anything else apart from playing it.
Borderlands never gets repetitive unless you play the side missions.
This is by far one of the longest games that i've played. (That's because i mistakenly kept on playing the side missions)
The games has some RPG elements on it where you get to buy and upgrade new weapons.
Of course a First Person Shooter game will not be good unless it has some cool weapons and this game has tons of them.
My favourite thing about this game was the boss fights. There are lots of good and memorable boss fights.( My best boss fight was with SLEDGE :) )
Overall, if you are looking for a very long, good and addictive FPS game then i suggest you buy this.

Completed on Sep 2011

Graphics: 8.5/10
Game play: 9.0/10
Presentation: 5/10
Sound: 8.5/10

DEAD RISING 2 REVIEW

Ever since i played GTA 4, i never liked any other 3rd person action/adventure game where your main character roams around the city and destroy things.
But when i played DEAD RISING 2, i really loved it. They did something really good with this game.
So basically you play as Chuck. A father whose wife was murdered by Zombies and now he's just left with a daughter to protect.
Unfortunately his daughter had been bitten on her hand by a zombie.
In order for her to survive, Chuck needs to go around the city looking for medicine to give to his daughter or else she will turn into a zombie.
But that's not all. The City in which Chuck is in now is infested with Zombies and someone framed Chuck for it.
Chuck has to go around the city looking for clues and solution to prove his innocence.
As you walk through the city, you meet up with zombies everywhere.
You have to pick up weapons and fight yourself through the city to reach your destination.
The good thing that I really loved about this game is with the weapons.
You can pick up anything that you see around and use it as a weapon to kill zombies. Even a water gun is used as a weapon.
Later on as you progress through the missions you get to upgrade your health.
The more zombies you kill, the more points you get to reach the next level.
When you reach the next level, you unlock combo cards.
The combo cards give you the ability to combine weapons e.g - BASEBALL BAT + NAILS =BASEBALL BAT + NAILS ON TOP.
The combined weapons makes it more fun to kill zombies with.

Overall, i really loved Dead Rising 2. Unlike LEFT 4 DEAD 2, Dead Rising 2 has a good story in it that will keep you going.

SPLATTERHOUSE:

I've been playing a lot of video games since I was young and my favourite ones were always shooter or hack&slash games.
Splatterhouse is another beat-em-up game that brings some shocking new gameplay mechanics.
The game was a good relaxation from what i usually play everyday.
I've never played a game that was so gruesome and brutal like the way this was and there were times in the game that kinda reminded me of Mortal Kombat.
You play as Rick and his mysterious mask as he unmercifully tears, cuts and beats his way through creatures in an adventure to save his lovely wife.
The game has great graphics and some entertaining cutscenes.
It also has twelve chapter that i completed in 2 days.
On the negative side, splatterhouse is the type of game that you'll only want to complete once and you'll never get back to it again.

SHADOWS OF THE DAMNED:

My favorite horror game was Dead Space but surely this game just took that away. That's how good it is.
I agree that dead space is more creepier and longer than this but there's just something so fresh and unique about this game that makes me feel like it's the best.
Great story line, interesting characters, many fun boss fights , good weapons and heart pounding sound make this game a phenomenal.
I just can't put it in words about how impressed i was with it.
I had lots of memorable moments when i was playing this game and whenever i come across the name "Garcia F'ing Hotspur!" I smile.

ARMY OF TWO : THE 40th DAY

Army of two is now one of my favourite third-person shooter games.
The game was just plain fun and addictive.
You either get to choose to play with a co-op friend or you can just choose a computer co-op AI.
You then play with your partner throughout the campaign and you need each other to survive.
When your health finishes you need to drag yourself to a cover and call your partner to come and heal you or you both die.
The single player campaign takes around 8-10 hours to complete.
The game play kinda reminded me of Splinter cell: conviction.
Everything in the game was just awesome except for the story which does not really matter.
The enemy AI is also pretty good with some interesting characters.
One of the best things in the game are the weapons. You get to buy the ones which you like and customize them.
If you liked Splinter cell:conviction then there's no doubt that you'll love this game too.

Completed on August 2011

Difficulty: Contractor (Hard)

GAME SCORE:

Game play: 8.9/10
Graphics: 8.6/10
Cut scenes: 7.6/10
Sound: 8/10
Addictiveness: 9/10

Overall: 8.4/10

Bottom line: A sequel will be great but they should come up with a good story.

METRO 2033

I Just finished the game now and i must say that it was quite interesting to play.
The game kinda grows on you.The environment is amazing with some dark atmosphere.
The storyline is somehow confusing.
The so called "Dark Ones" have infested the tunnels of Metro and it's up to you to do something about it.
The gunfights are not very satisfying, there are only a few enemy types - (monsters) and the human enemy AI which is not that good.
In the graphic department Metro 2033 delivers some great lighting effects and the friendly metro stations really come alive with people chatting, playing guitars, children playing and the level of detail is amazing.
When you go outside you need to wear a gas mask. This adds a cool concept of panic as your mask gets foggy or cracks during a fight.
If that happens you'll need to find a replacement before you die.
Metro 2033 has a pretty interesting currency system -> bullets.
When you loot corpses you'll occasionally find these "golden bullets" which does significantly more damage or can be used to buy new weapons.
The weapons are expensive so you'll have to select at least one that you like the most and buy as many bullets as you can because there is a very limited amount of amo around.
If you put aside the negativity, Metro2033 is quite an enjoyable game.
It spans over 7 chapters total and a playing time of about 10-12 hours.

Triumph/Tribulation – Singularity Review

This review will likely contain large amounts of spoilers, annoyances, rants, and possibly some form of humor as I decide if a game is worthy of the triumph/tribulation title–. Or–. "Triumbulation" which would be somewhere in-between the two.

Singularity begins with you flying towards your objective in a helicopter, and of course if you play many FPS games you know where this is heading. A wave of energy hit the helo causing it to crash.. just once I would like to have something pleasant happen to me while flying in a helicopter.

The first hour in Singularity is greatly different than what follows, almost reminiscent of the experience you receive in dead space. Evil humanoid creatures jumping out of spooky environments with you wielding only a pistol with limited bits of ammo. Though once you find your first assault rifle the game changes, now you blast away without a fear of running out on ammo which seems to take that creepy sensation right out of the game.

After Renko (your character) mistakenly messes with the "temporal prime directive" you must find a way to stop the giant singularity of doom. This is done with the help of supporting characters, and a device you gain access to called the TMD (Time Manipulation Device). This device add a good deal of fun to the game allowing you to hurl objects, age people to dust, and even turn enemies into the evil mutated creatures that wreak havoc on your attackers.

The TMD also allows you to repair or destroy certain items which can be used to help solve some of the rather noobish puzzles. Fix another crate– use crate to jump up to higher area, now I feel smart– smash crate, place under door, repair crate to lift door– Rinse– repeat–

Now most games you play tend to scale up the difficultly towards the end of the game. Singularity does the absolute opposite to an extreme level, making the last 45 minutes of game play extremely easy as you run about with unlimited power for your TMD.

The finale to the game adds in the only element of choice Singularity presents you with. Allowing you to make a good, evil, or I'm Darth Vader screw the world and all its fluffy creatures' selection.

Throughout Singularity Film and audio logs you discovery add interesting bits of history to what happened in the past to cause these issues. They also sometimes add a level of nervousness to what is going to be around the next corner.

Sadly I haven't been able to experience any of the multi-player game play due to the lack of enough players to even allow a match to begin. So if you're looking at this game you likely have to write this off as something you won't be able to experience much of.

Now even though I beat on this game a bit I un-expectantly gave this title a Triumph score of 8.0. Well worth the time if you are looking for a new shooter while waiting for the next Bioshock game.

Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock is the third iteration in the Guitar Hero season. Guitar Hero III was released after the huge success of the first two games, and tried to distinguish itself and take the series in a new direction.

The music "peripheral" genre was at its peak when Guitar Hero III came out, and I was skeptical from the beginning about one aspect of this game, the Boss Battles. Instead of trying your best to hit the notes of the song, you would be trying to get your enemy to mess up as often as possible, play the song horrifically, and in the end make them fail the song. This right here, is what turned me off from the entire music peripheral genre.

At its core however, Guitar Hero III is more of the same that everyone loved from the first two games. You have your plastic guitar, there are notes scrolling along the screen, and your goal is to perform the songs to the best of your ability. In the end, the game is the exact same as the first two releases, except with new tracks.

I can say that this is the last peripheral music game I will ever purchase (would not have ever bought it if didn't' find it for $1 at a Half Price Books). The market became too saturated with developers pouring out version after version with no core gameplay changes or innovations. Sure there were new instruments, but in the end it's just another piece of plastic with buttons that you're hitting colored orbs with.

Guitar Hero III is a fun game, but by no means a game that has lasting appeal if you have plowed hours into Guitar Hero I and II.

Wed, 20 Apr 2011 17:50:46 -0700 FullMetalWWant reviewed Mortal Kombat for the PlayStation 3... http://www.gamespot.com/mortal-kombat-2011/user-reviews/762572/platform/ps3/ ...and gave it a 10.0!!!

Ladies and gentlemen, April 19th will go down as the day of video games. Many great games were released but one game that everyone is talking about is the new Mortal Kombat game. Returning after Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe, many believed that Mortal Kombat was going soft. But with this return, it proves that Mortal Kombat is back and better then ever.

With graphics as great as it can ever will be and only fighting like the old school Mortal Kombat, this game amazed me. The story follows the first three MK games in the series but retold from a bit of a future standpoint.

From what everyone is telling everyone, Raiden is fighting a losing battle against Shao Kahn. In a last desperate move, Raiden sends a message to his younger self in hopes to prevent Kahn from taking over the Earthrealm (It's Earth with the MK name to it). Now you take the role of a cast of MK Fighters in Story Mode in order to try to prevent what might happen. The cut scenes are really well done and it really tells you the story behind the MK series that everyone can follow.

New to the MK World is some of the new moves and features that make this game stand out from other MK games. For one, it's your basic Arcade Ladder, where you pick your favorite fighter and battle to the top of the mountain. Also, a returning favorite is Tag Team matches. Your basic 2 on 2 match, with players switching between two characters. Even four people can play at the same time, making it a challenge for fighters because with a single tap of a button, the match can change.

Challenge Tower is a series of 300 (yes, I said it) challenges that pit the player against different foes and different set of rules to pass. Once you beat all of them, you will have a reward that even I don't know yet. All I know is that Test Your Might is back, as well as Sight, Luck and Strike. Everything about it makes you wonder what is that final challenge and what that prize could be.

Online wise is based upon the online features of the last Mortal Kombat game and here is where you can go to different rooms and challenge different people as well as chat with others. King of the Hill mode is a fun little online mode that again faces you and a online opponent. However, in the foreground, you see a bunch of mini Kombants cheering or booing at you as you fight. It's a fun little feature to pass the time and be with friends.

With a good amount of characters and future DLC coming soon, Mortal Kombat is the step in the right direction for the series after a few hits and misses. It's about time that the real Mortal Kombat has returned!

Fri, 01 Apr 2011 12:12:20 -0700 Rovelius reviewed PixelJunk Shooter 2 for the PlayStation 3... http://www.gamespot.com/pixeljunk-shooter-2/user-reviews/760787/platform/ps3/ ...and gave it a 9.5!

Here's my Good vs Bad review for PixelJunk Shooter 2 where I will list the things I liked and disliked about the game. I am not a native English speaker so bear with any weird sentence I might come up with.

THE GOOOOOOOD

-A few tweaks were brought to the core gameplay. Missiles now fire much faster and for a lower heat cost, allowing you to plow thru dirt a lot faster and speed up gameplay. There's also a new move that sends you spinning against enemies and thru dirt. Jumping from one enemy to the other thanks to the spin's auto-aim, all while dodging bullets and hazards, is awesome. There is also a collection of new and useful suits to play around with.

-Music once again written by High Frequency Bandwidth, the guys we owe PJS1's OST to. The awesome atmosphere is back and better than ever.

-GameSpot pointed out PJS2 puts emphasis on shooting and it's not exactly true because environmental puzzles and hazards are still around and, thanks to new fluids and elements, a lot more challenging than they used to be. The game is once again divided in 3 worlds and, just like PJS1 did, all levels manage to include new gameplay elements. As you get closer to the last level, you'll notice everything shown to you isn't dumped and forgotten like they do in so many games these days. Instead they re-use known patterns and mix things up a lot making for interesting and clever gameplay/puzzles. The last 2 levels use almost everything in ways so clever you can't help but think PJS2 is the best. The emphasis on shooting is actually misleading because what is actually shooting more this time around is not you but the enemies. It's never too hard but sometimes it felt like a schmup with all those bullets flying across the screen. Hit one and your heat goes up a little... so it's exactly like before. It's about carefully guiding your ship thru the dangers and, should the heat rack up a bit, hurry back to water. The spin move I mentioned above helps with last-second maneuvers, too, and a lot of times made the game a bit more hectic than the very slow-paced PJS1.

-The game now sports a multiplayer component, and a very great one at that. It's my favorite multiplayer so far this year. In short, it's 1-1 battles where players alternate between Offense and Defense. Across the maps are scattered survivors which, as Offense, you have to capture and bring back to your zone. As Defense, you fly around the map hunting for the other player. You have a bunch of dots coming out from where your ship is currently aiming at, should they collide with the Offense player, he'll get frozen for half a second. At this point you may want to use the items you bought with the points earned in multiplayer. There are all sorts of crazy items out there like the missiles, lava bombs, joystick inverter and so much more. The multiplayer is very balanced and skill-based, it's not there to help noobs. So it's hard. But nothing impossible if you stick to it... in the end it's much more rewarding this way. Barely any lag whatsoever helps making this an enjoyable experience where deaths/losses are yours to blame.

-A lot of new and varied enemies making up for PJS1's somewhat redundant bestiary.

-Bosses are more varied and imposing than PJS1's. I won't spoil anything but having your wits about you when fighting them is a must, the devs put a lot of efforts to come up with varied and unpredictable movesets. Especially the final boss who pretty much blew my mind. It reminded me of Kirby 64's last boss and that is an instant win in my book.

-Levels tend to last twice as long as they did in PJS1 and pacing was improved, leaving better breathing room between the more intense and calm moments. A nice balance was achieved here.

THE BAAAAAAAAAAD

-Enemies spawning directly on you can still be a problem sometimes if you're like me and rush a lot. Random, instant death is not very fun.

-Camera shake was overused in some instances.

-The Hungry Suit had weird controls. Sticking your face to walls to keep it from moving is awkward.

Yep, that's all for the bad points. As long as you're not a trophy hunter/content tourist/rusher you will certainly enjoy the mix of colors, fluid gameplay and soothing atmosphere this game have in store for you. After all, games are meant to entertain, what's the point of rushing thru them just for bragging rights? You just end up refusing yourself good moments.

I might edit this later if anything comes to my mind.

Anyway I give this solid sequel a 9.5, thumbs up to Q-Games for delivering such a good game in an age of washed out sequels.

Fri, 10 Dec 2010 14:17:50 -0800 Rovelius reviewed Gran Turismo 5 for the PlayStation 3... http://www.gamespot.com/gran-turismo-5/user-reviews/748034/platform/ps3/ ...and gave it a 5.0.

Here's my "Good vs Bad" review for Gran Turismo 5 where I list the pros and cons of the game.

THE GOOOOOOOD

-The game is advertised as more of less of a showcase for over 1000 cars. The truth is, those 1000 cars are divided in two categories. The standard cars and the premiums. 800 cars vs 200 premium ones. I'll start with the premiums.

Put simply, they are the best 3D models I've ever seen. They are AMAZING. I don't know how many polygons these models have but it's gotta be millions. The specular lighting does a credible job of reflecting the maps in realtime and it's obvious a lot of work went in there.

Premium cars also happen to have modeled interiors, unlike standard cars. Again, these models are very impressive, as far as the actual modeling and texturing goes. They also recorded the real sound produced by the premium cars' engines so it's cool to drive a powerful car and listen to the sound the engine produces as it's working it's way through the engine gears.

-Polyphony was smart enough to implement a system that turns off collision on players trying to ruin a race online. You know, the kind of jerks who will run the whole race backwards just to ram into people straight on? Not a problem anymore.

-They worked out a great introduction for new players. At first, it made me feel I was playing the best racing game of all times. But that feeling didn't last long.

-A very low amount of lag online. They paid for dedicated servers and it really shows.

-The Special Events like AMG Driving Academy, Jeff Gordon's NASCAR School or The Gran Turismo Kart Experience are easily the most polished aspects of the game and the most entertaining. Photo Mode is great too. Although it's sometimes hard to position the camera, the ability to snap 1920x1080 pictures of your cars under all kinds of display modes is great. I had fun with this one.

-Some maps happen to be real-world circuits and PD did a great job at reproducing them. I heard they even worked for 2 years on a single one because they wanted it to be "perfect". Well, I think they should of focused on more important matters. Like all the ones that follow...

THE BAAAAAAAD

-A 6GB installation that takes 50 minutes and doesn't prevent the game from displaying loading screens for sometimes up to 5 whole minutes. Online isn't spared.

-A-Spec and B-Spec, the "red and blue" of Gran Turismo, are the most stupid systems I've ever came across.

A-Spec consists of many racing events organized by difficulty, which ranges from Beginner to Expert (or Professional? Not sure...). Winning in these will award you money and cars. The problem is not winning, the problem is actually getting into these events. Suppose you want to participate in the Lightweight Car tournament. Well, as you probably guessed already this kind of tournament restricts the car you will use. So, you click on the regulations icon... and a HUGE mess of a list will pop up with sometimes more 60 cars you can use for this event. You cannot click on any of them to buy them or to know where you can get them. You'll have to write down the whole thing then regularly check the Dealership Shop, crossing fingers one of them will apppear in the list. Also, the Dealership Shop's inventory is dynamic. You may have to wait a long time just to participate in the events required to advance thru the game. You can always participate in other modes to gain Experience/Money but even if you're Lv.40 you still have to waste your time in the boring Beginner challenges just because everything is available from the start in this game, in an unorganized fashion.

Now, B-Spec. On the paper, it should let you take control of a racing team and issue commands to your drivers. Racing team... drivers... that calls for customization, right? Forget about that ! You can't personalize your own team, you can't name your driver. All you can do is select the 3D model that will be used for your driver. You have like 8 choices only.

Issuing commands do not work at all either. There are commands for Overtake, Pace Up, Pace Down or Constant Pace but your driver rarely follows them at all, it's VERY frustrating. Your best bet is throwing the dumb driver in one of your overpowered cars and just do something else while he farms money for you. Because that's the only reason B-Spec exists for.

-The PS3's controller just plain sucks for this game. Despite an alarming amount of driving assists, it just lacks the precision of a driving wheel. I had to spend about 2 hours in order to configure my driving assists for ONE car - and I still get oversteer from times to times. There are just too many factors to consider : car weight, tyre grip, weather, surface, suspension, drivetrain and of course more than 6 driving assists you absolutely can't go without if using a PS3 controller. You can't setup assist profiles either so you will have to memorize or write down every configurations for all the possible situations you may have to drive in. I really think this game is unplayable at higher levels without the precision of a driving wheel and the removal of driving assists, however even the cheapest one out there goes for 200$. Not for me.

-I gave a lot praise to the premium cars' 3D models but they're pretty much the only eye candy you'll get in GT5. I don't really know what happened in PD's offices but maps generally consist of 2D trees, 2D crowd, very low-polygon modeling on buildings or the the ground and 2D water. Yes, water is not animated and consists of a still texture, sometimes a photograph. It's not even moving. There is a distinct lack of fog in maps as well as a lot of "pop in". The camera is CONSTANTLY going thru walls, revealing the void as well as the skybox's end in the classic blackness. The standard cars, which make up for 800 of the 1031 cars in the game, are nothing more than recycled PS2 models. The smoke produced by the cars is not volumetric and they try hiding it by using a RIDICULOUS amount of anti-aliasing around the cars. HDR is present but overrused, it's just annoying. Shadows are also very low on quality, consisting of very "blocky" lines that completely throw off the interior models' atmosphere. They also glitch a lot on the premium cars' complex models.

-The interface is clumsy and unorganized. It requires WAY too much navigation, confirmations etc. to get from point A to point B. That's when you don't get lost in that mess or simply forgot what you wanted to do in the first place. It also abuses fade outs and lots of other pointless effects that only slows down the process of navigating. It's also the kind of interface you have to wait until their animations are done before you can move your cursor. The interface is always against you.

-Joining friends for a race is a pain because invites are not supported. That's right, a 2010 PS3 game that's been in development for 5 years doesn't support invites. Instead you again have to cope with the horrible interface to get the job done - and that's only when the servers are in a good mood.

-Online play doesn't lag much but for every room you try joining there's a 3/4 chance it will result in a disconnection after watching that little bar SLOWLY filling up, which usually takes 5~10 minutes.

The online interface is comprised of rooms stacked in a completely random order ; you cannot sort them. Lots of regulations can be applied to a room (Karts only, engines with 300HP or less, etc...) however, since there virtually are no sorting methods yet, it is completely up to the room's host to properly name their room AND to keep it updated as time passes (which, by the way, rarely happens...) since no other info at all is displayed.

Another very frustrating aspect : the fact you're a room's host doesn't give you exclusivity for starting a race. Which means, you may be in the process of changing game rules and maps when a random guy pokes in and starts the race. The community will rarely follow any rule. Naming your room "Clean racing only. ONLY !!!" rarely changes anything. The same goes for spamming "DO NOT START THE RACE YET !" in the chat box, people just do whatever they want. There is no penalty, this game doesn't record any data.

-Once you're done with the early races and events, prepare for a huge grind fest. You will race the same events over and over, winning ridiculous prizes in useless cars and small money, just for more grinding ! PD seems to think people will treat GT like Pokemon where people will try and "Collect'em all !" (the cars, that is) except that Pokemon was actually fun and rewarding to play, not GT5. Despite a laughable attempt at a linear and frustrating tutorial disguised as "Licenses", the game really has no learning curves. It's just too easy to enter an event/race with a modified car and win the competition without any real effort. It's not like I didn't try racing correctly, I'm actually pretty good at racing games, but this one is different because the AI ruins everything by racing cheap. They ram you, cut corners without being disqualified and lots of other stuff that just makes you go "Oh whatever" and use an overpowered car to dominate the broken AI. Also, barely touching any other car results in a huge loss of speed that usually guarantees a loss. At the end of the day it makes for a very underwhelming experience totally lacking in both realism and fun. I like challenge so being given no other choice than racing cheap destroys the purpose of a driving sim.

-Car damage is a joke and should not even be in the game. Period.

-The game's soundtrack is mostly comprised of low-quality rock, jazz and a bit of techno. Nothing much needs to be said here except that they're dull, repetitive and rarely fit at all.

CLOSING NOTES

GT5 is a game you can describe as "Good stuff shrouded in lots of bad". As great as the driving physics can get, they're not enough to save this game. A grindfest singleplayer, unstable multiplayer, the worst interface I've ever seen and a load of other problems made me give up on GT5. I just don't understand how the game could end up like this despite all the money and development time that went in it. It's a big disappointment. There are just too many technical and design problems in this game to simply get over and live with. If that's supposed to be "The Real Driving Simulator", 'the best racing game of all times" or "the most realistic driving game ever", then that game is not for me or any other gamer out there. The fun factor just isn't present.

NOTE: There are more problems in this game such as all the clone cars, obvious favoritism for Japanese makers and more but they are not issues that personally annoyed me. I'm mentioning them for reference.

Fallout 3 changed the world of gaming. Setting in the D.C. area of devastation, it proved to be a place of great moments. Now we must travel to the hot deserts of New Vegas we we explore the new area of Fallout New Vegas.

New Vegas is best explained as Fallout 3 in the desert. In this area, it was never hit with any bombs like FO3 did so it's more intact but still has it's set of problems that you must solve.

It took me a long time to even set foot inside of the actually New Vegas because I was busy with other tasks at hand. Exploring the desert to me is a bit fun and it makes it look like your really in the desert.

I can't really go into any details story wise but let's say that your just the person to piss someone off and ends up far away from the lights of New Vegas and now you must fight your way to finding out what the hell is going on.

Much hasn't changed in New Vegas from FO3 but there are a few things that have changed. You can now straight aim down your gun like you normally do, your companions you recruit can now be commanded to actually do something useful and with Hardcore mode intact, it's going to take realism to a whole new level. Now you must fight for your food, drink water, sleep and heal normally and that will prove a challenge to most gamers.

The one big problem that everyone is having is all the bugs the game has. I had my fair share of these problems but me being a 360 owner, I installed my game into my hard drive and the bugs decreased by a lot so I can give it a better rating then most.

New Vegas takes you down memory lane with similar ties with FO3 but I say you should gamble your money on this great addition to the Fallout series.
