Intro
When I reviewed "Football Manager 2007"(http://uk.gamespot.com/xbox360/sports/footballmanager2007/player_review.html?id=436671)it was the first time I had played a management game since '99 & even then I was fully aware of what to expect form the game.
So now only 1 year after the last instalment as opposed to the aforementioned 8 I expected no real differences at all & needless to say I was not wrong but however subtle the changes are they still make for a better game. I initially had mixed reactions to the 2007 version of the game, praising its various options but at the same time disillusioned by how complicated it was to navigate through the various choices but here we see that the game has been streamlined & consciously so rather than just filed away in various nooks & crannies with unnecessary parts being dropped which helps the game significantly.

Design - 7
The layout has not dramatically changed & in essence it remains the same as previous instalments but with a softer more comforting image & with a smooth glossy feel. Everything is neatly arranged in "tabs" which makes navigation very easy whilst still maintaining the detail & control of the game. Infact control has improved with more options allowing you to change things here & there & you can see the outcome of your decisions. You can control your team with such precision it is far more enjoyable than one expected. The arrangement is neat & easily accessible making but the sheer fact is that this is not a console game & as such without the "point & click" motions of a PC there will always be times when frustration overcomes you when you feel that the time it takes you to get things done could so easily be cut down if you could just ruddy "point & click". But once you know you're way about the damn thing you can get on with it with relative ease even if you don't have a mouse.

Gameplay – 7
Gameplay? What sodding gameplay? IT'S A MANAGING SIM! There is no gameplay, you select the players, if they are good you win, if they are bad you lose. Ok, so maybe not that simple. Well actually that is quite a harsh thing to say as the game is immense – some might even say as deep as the sea. You can select your set piece takers & direct those darting runs & force your defenders into the final third of the pitch for corners only to concede a late goal & **** about it for the next 40 minutes. In fact there is nothing more satisfying than scoring a last minute winner from an orchestrated set piece of your own design. But after a while it gets a bit samey but with tactics, scouting, training yada, yada, yada there is plenty for the die-hard football fan to do but if you're just a casual follower of the beautiful game and "kinda" support Watford because your gran used to take you shopping there maybe give this a miss for a while.

Audio/Visual - 6
Usually in review I'd separate audio & visual into 2 different sections but in this one I have combined the 2 in order to save time. Ok, so pay attention. Management sim only has 2 images, football pitch & spreadsheets. Management sim only has 2 sounds, crowd cheering & ball being kicked. Yes these look/sound good but how the hell am I supposed to review them. Pfffft!

Multiplayer - 6
Again – Management sim. Not really designed for multiplayer but should you so feel the urge to use it as a multiplayer game then there are some undeniable laughs in beating your mates within the game itself or in your own tournament that you've set up but nothing outstanding here.

Longevity - 8
If you like managing it will last a long, long time. If you don't then it won't but having said that you probably wouldn't have purchased the game in the first place if you didn't like it that much.

Achievements – 7
Gone are the ridiculous amounts of 1g for signing a player & now come the nice simple 5's & 10's which is nice to see. Also gone are the ridiculously hard things like "Get 75% of global Scouting Knowledge" thank god. Still winning the league & undefeated seasons can prove quite challenging but if the points matter that much to you then it is quite easy to cheat using the save feature but there are so many more games that are a lot easier to whore than this one.

Overall – 8
It is (as I've mentioned once or twice in the review) a football sim & thus it does not provide to much in the way of stimulation for the typical console gamer & those of you who are interested in it will probably buy it for the PC. So the big question is would you pay –50 for it? I sure wouldn't but then I get it for free so what do I care

Intro
Someone once told me that a good videogame is much like a porn movie. Initially I thought this point was a little perverse (especially since we were talking about the Chinese occupation of Tibet at the time) but when pushed to elaborate he said well with both you expect a storyline to be there but it is not immensely important as no one is really paying attention to it. To me this remains a moot point as there will always be a debate over whether great games of our time have good storylines. For example, Halo. It is arguably the greatest gaming franchise in existence (calm down fanboys I said 'arguably') but how many of us really care about the storyline since essentially all it is is the ol' human vs. alien scenario? But on the flipside some people are enthralled by the sheer epic matter of the story and it has spawned a whole series of novels even though the cynics amongst us may brand this as "cashing in", however I digress. Conflict: Denied Ops seems to take this idea of a storyline does not matter and then continually swing in conscience between a storyline and nothing which makes the whole experience a little more tragic than it should be.
For example a short (and by short I mean very short) cut scene shows some generic soldiers dying in a gun fight and then a voice saying something about fighting in Venezuela then BLAM! Into the action we go. However at the start and end of each mission there is a bit of banter between the two characters you can play as, one of whom is your traditional hard nosed secret service operative and one who is an African-American gentleman who I can only describe as having a lot of "sass", those of you have played Gears of War and come across the Cole character will instantly know what I'm talking about except this fella' is far less witty and far more annoying. In any case there is an obvious conflict between these two guys but whether it is supposed to add gritty realism or an edge to the otherwise dull story I just don't know because it serves as nothing more than a minor annoyance much like the desperate attempts to add a back story to the characters. You may however be one of the aforementioned people that fall into the camp of "I really couldn't give a flying flip about the story" in which case the build up you have just read is utterly pointless so let us now dive into the good stuff–

Design - 6
I hesitate to mention the design of this game because–..err–.well it seems it doesn't really have one. By this I don't mean that it has just been roughly thrown together with no forethought whatsoever but the menus are literally just that – menus. Like that of the old gaming era where a menu was just a place where you selected which game mode you wanted without any of this 3D nonsense or interactive hoo-hah and that's all it is. The game itself also seems to be lacking any true structure as it jumps from mission to mission all in completely different locations. Monastery to Kenyan City to Diamond Mine to Submarine base in the Artic to a Castle etc, etc which is random and highly irregular but strangely enjoyable. It provided me with a vague sense of nostalgia as it felt a bit like playing Golden Eye way back when on the N64 but structurally amiss the design is non-existent but still manages to be likeable in a crude way.
Gameplay - 6
Aaaaaaaaaggghhh! Where oh where do I start? Right, let's start with the basics. It's a shooter and a simple one at that. You have the two playable characters. One with the heavy duty machine gun and one with the rifle which acts as a sniper. Of course both have their advantages and disadvantages for example the sniper is effectively useless for the first few levels whilst the machine gun can't aim for toffee. Point. Squeeze trigger. Empty whole clip into enemy. Realise they are still alive. Change to sniper. Get killed whilst trying to aim. Not fun but you can overcome the aiming options by getting stupidly close to your enemy, this isn't a problem if you have difficulty set fairly low but when you unlock the shotgun attachment you will be using at every available opportunity because it blows anybody that is misfortunate to get into your sights away as they bounce comically but unrealistically away ignoring known laws of gravity for a good few seconds. You gain attachments at the end of each mission and apart from that of the shotgun none of them are really needed and I doubt you will ever use any of them except for maybe novelties sake but they are there should you fell the need to waste your time finding out what other irrelevant things your weapon can do. This game brings us absolutely nothing new as it is very simply a point and pull shooter, that's it nothing more than that. Yes you can switch from player to player but you could do that in Battlefield 2: Modern Combat where instead of being useful it was just annoying. It certainly isn't annoying here but it doesn't bring that much needed extra dimension that so many games are now lacking this being one of them and it is slightly insulting that developers are expecting us to pay –50 a pop for something that can only be described as 'run-of-the-mill'. However this averageness (yes I know that's not a word) does have a very comforting feeling when all you want to do is sit down and blow the crap out of things. A.I is poor where your enemies hide behind explosive barrels using them for cover. I may not be the greatest villain but I do know that if it says 'explosive' on it it's probably not a great idea to use it as cover in a gunfight and on that topic where the hell did all these explosives come from? I'm pretty sure monasteries and castles or wherever the hell you are do not just have random boxes of explosives lying around.

Audio - 5
I didn't think there was anything more wooden then Hugh Grants acting. Well ladies and gentlemen I have been proven wrong. Whoever was hired to do these voices clearly wasn't paid enough as there is a hint of boredom in every voice not what you'd expect form a high-octane, action packed thriller. Hell! Give me –20 and I'll redo all the voices for you and at a better standard. Also you are jetting around the world to various different locations so of course you encounter foreign individuals, No wait! You encounter an American putting on a piss poor accent, sorry easy mistake to make. It seems fairly obvious to me that if you are putting in African characters you hire an African voice actor but I'm not in the games industry so what do I know? Having said that, at least they tried.

Visual – 6
Nothing much to say here. You can tell what everything is but it doesn't have much texture and it doesn't have the pristine, shiny quality you expect of today's games.

Multiplayer - 7
As I said it is just a simple shooter but multiplayer does have it's quirks because as one of you has the sniper and the other the machine gun you are forced to work closely together. Some may criticise this others may revel in it but in either case it does limit what you can do but it doesn't really build much on the single player experience.

Longevity - 6
Once you have completed this game I can't see you going back for more but it isn't one you are just gonna toss away after the first level and if you want the achievements you may be inclined to go back. The thing is you can't replay just a single mission until you have completed the game first which is a bit annoying if you're trying to get some of the achievements but if there is a particular level you like you may want to give it another go as they do occasionally have their moments.
Achievements – 7
The achievements mostly rely on you completing certain objectives in the levels but they are relatively low yield so you may not be to bothered if you miss some out. You also get points for completing the game on different difficulties but once you've completed it once you probably won't have the desire to do it again however if you do complete it 7 unlock the "replay mission" section you may want to go back for one or two of the easier achievements but nothing really for you to sink your teeth into here.

Overall – 6.5
It is all in all an average game but I feel it has a certain level of enjoyment in it that can not be justified by a 6 at the same time it is not worth a 7. If you really want to try it rent it but even then I wouldn't recommend it but whatever you do for the love of god do not piss away –50 on this, –10 yes, –15 probably, –20 pushing it but –50! NAH! So many good games will be hitting us in a very short space of time and will continue until we are black and blue with enjoyment so just be patient and wait it out.

I championed both the Wii & the DS for their unique selling points over their competitors better graphics & built in doo-da's & Nintendo have been rewarded lavishly by the market for their innovation.I love games on the DS which allow me to use the stylus & microphone in a unique manner but now we see that Nintendo are failing to maintain such innovations as they are now clutching at straws with what to do with that damn stylus. I delight in the use in the stylus on games such as Metroid Prime: Hunters & Zelda & the Phantom Hourglass but this is unnecessary for this game yet it is annoyingly still used. As was pointed out by the game spot review in the sprinting games rubbing the stylus really quickly will allow you to win but it will also scratch your screen if you are not careful. If you have played some of the more serious games in the Olympic series that didn't involve an Italian plumber or a giant Blue hedgehog like Athens then the basic mechanics as to how to perform in the events are still there, you are still tapping things in time & hammering away at 2 buttons as fast as possible so nothing really new but of course this being a bit fictitious non Olympic games are also included in a series of events termed "dream events" none of which are more than poor ideas on how to make the game a little more innovative but here they are just clutching at straws & the game just feels like a collection of sports related mini games riding on the back of the previous successes of the 2 main characters.

The concept of a medieval warrior roaming about & conquering people is not an original concept but through in a horde of little goblins or 'minions' who are prepared to do his bidding in order to create a glorious evil empire & you have something very different indeed. The control of these minions is neither unique or complex but it is really good fun. The missions are challenging so as to make sure you employ strategy in the deployment of your minions but not so that you have to fret about this at every twist & turn. Yes there are some minor issues mostly with camera angles & parts of the game are to ambitious for what it wants to achieve but the are nothing more than minor annoyances that you encounter from time to time. However one big problem would be the repetitiveness of the game. yes you are placed in varying surroundings & multiple different scenarios but after a while you do realise that you are just sending minions to do this & then do that time & time again. The game also has a comic element to both visually & in its demeanor - but a stumbling block of which is that it simply tries to hard to be funny trotting out jokes which are pretty obvious & on occasion a bit childish. Visually pleasing with bright colours but it is textured beautifully as well, interaction with other characters is none existent almost but they do make for rather interesting side notes. All in all a really good play & it does not get as much credit as it deserves, genuine fun coupled with pleasing visuals and plain originality.

Visually exciting & with a compelling storyline this game successfully brought what was a fading series back into the limelight. Call of Duty peaked with Call of Duty 2 & people were understandably excited with the release of Call of Duty 3 but this was in essence an abysmal game in comparison to its predecessor so naturally when the series announced it would be moving away from the WW2 genre & coupled with the tarnished Call of Duty 3 debacle it was only to be expected that I approached this game with trepidation. However, like a phoenix from the ashes the series was successfully hauled into the 21st century with eye popping graphics & immense gameplay. It has a sense of familiarity that players of the previous games of the series will immediately identify whilst bringing a new thrill to it. single player proceeds nicely with plain & simple shoot to kill missions but often with a twist to each one as you vary from British S.A.S to American Infantry even if it does seem a little short however if you watch the credits after completion you do get another bonus mission for your troubles. Multiplayer also has some great quirks where you now have the perks feature throwing a sense of the unknown into the mix. Although the game modes are much the same as most other shooter games (like capture the flag, free-for-all etc) they, along with the many maps, provide for hours of entertainment. A very enjoyable game indeed which really brings a new twist to the series,

This was a game I had been looking forward to for a while. It looked edgy, it looked dark & it seemed as though it may have an intense storyline that unravels throughout the game. It has none of the aforementioned & probably even less. The cut scenes appear as a simply delicious piece of cinematography with the whole shebang of interesting angles, textures etc...cue gameplay. Wait where did all the texture go? Is this a PS2 game? Is this a PS1 game? WHAT THE HELL! Alright, the graphics are not that bad but damn it in this day & age they should not look like this - the intensity that I was promised is lost by block colour without texture & poor voice acting. The gameplay is easy enough shoot everything in sight end of level. Squad based gameplay---I laugh in anger at this phrase because tapping the "Y" button & sending a squad member away just to get shot so you have to go in & save them is not squad based gameplay it is a waste of my bloody time.

Multi-player is a great idea where you can either work together or betray each other, unfortunately it doesn't work because everyone just betrays each other so it just ends up as a blood bath, that would be if blood came out of a body when you shot it but it doesn't they just collapse & disappear.

This could have been a really, really good game & in all the previews actually looked half decent. So what happened it was just like they rushed a beta version of the game & then just left it. Yeah it's reasonably fun but it took all of 4 hours to complete it.

Wed, 28 Nov 2007 19:34:31 -0800 EvilTaylor reviewed Gears of War for the Xbox 360... http://www.gamespot.com/gears-of-war/user-reviews/524396/platform/xbox360/ ...and gave it a 9.5!

Gears of War, what can you say about this game except that it truly takes the whole planet destruction to a whole nother level. GOW is one of the best games that you will ever play, in single player and especially when you play it online, as it's one of the best multiplayer games out there right now. So let's get down to business and review this game.

Graphics-First off the graphics in GOW is by far one of the best graphics you will see, from cut scenes to gameplay the graphics remain amazing. The most surprising thing about the graphics of GOW is that when you are actually playing the game you get the sense of how real the game feels. Everything from the characters, to the blood and even the shadowing and the texture of everything is done to perfection, and therefore the graphics in some way make this game. 9.5/10

Gameplay-Now the gameplay in GOW is far beyond anyone could have imagined, the way that you have to use cover in order to survive is extrodinary. This is especially considering how smart the computer is, it some times feels as if your playing another human being, and it really brings out the gameplay then. The gameplay gets even better as you progress throughout the game, from shooting propane tanks for light, to driving a tank like car to destroy buildings. All in all, all the mechanics work well with each other and it definetly deserves a, 9.7/10.

Sound-The sound in GOW is also exceptionally well done, right from the voice acting to the sound of guns firing. It is a great sounding game with every little detail in sounds, marked out to get the exact right sound. There are some sounds that are a little bad like when your shooting that beam when your on the tank, it could have been done a little better. But other than that it was a great sounding game and gets, 9.0/10.

Storyline-Now this is the one part of the game that I wasn't too fond of, even though the story was well thought out, I just couldn't understand how these aliens came from the ground up and destroyed most of the planet. There were some interesting story plots in it, but it wasn't a great story that caught to many peoples attention, and to add to that it was a very sort game. Which could have been longer with a little better storyline. 8.7/10.

Multiplayer-There are some other things that made this game very popular including the huge multiplayer system online, it is one of the biggest behind Halo. Day after day more and more people are playing this game because of the way that you use cover and how there are so many different ways to kill enemies, it definetly got huge from multiplayer, let alone single player. It is a very addictive game, that uses the chainsaw amasingly, and gets a, 9.3/10 in multiplayer.

The Bad Things-Now with all the good there of course needs to be the bad, and in this game there are only a few. First off the major one the story which could have been a little longer, and a bit more creative than the usual aliens destroying the planet. And second the games combat sometimes can be tricky especially in the harder modes, like insane where it is harder to kill the enemies because they are like your playing another human. But other than that this game is a must own.

So there you have it Gears of War is one of the best games to ever be made for the Xbox 360 and it will stay that way for quite a while. When you throw in the stellar graphics, the blessing sound and the amazing gameplay you have a must own game, that is a real revolutionary game for games in the future. And if you get tired of playing it in single player, well don't worry because it has one of the best co-op and multiplayer experiances ever. So how come you don't own this game yet, what are you waiting for go out and buy it.......NOW!!!!

Thu, 15 Nov 2007 18:30:48 -0800 EvilTaylor reviewed BioShock for the Xbox 360... http://www.gamespot.com/bioshock/user-reviews/517810/platform/xbox360/ ...and gave it a 9.5!

Bioshock does something that no other first-person shooter has done in a long time and that is that it's a highly addictive first-person shooter game for single player. Unlike games like Halo and RainbowSix, Bioshock makes you want to play it for the single player, where as in Halo and RainbowSix people really play them for there fun and addictive multiplayer. Which makes Bioshock a very rare game, indeed, especially for a first-person shooter.

Storyline:

The game starts off with the main character on a plane in 1960 in which, you are looking at some family pictures, when all of a sudden your plane is struck down into the Atlantic Ocean below you. When you immerge from the water you are hit with the stunning graphical design of the game, with the beautiful fire burning on top of the water. After swimming through the water you come to a lighthouse, in which a sign appears that says "No Gods or Kings. Only Man", underneath this sign is a Bathespeare which transports you to the beautiful underground city of Rapture. While arriving to Rapture you are given the name of the archeticed behind this beautiful city, and his name is Andrew Ryan. Through many twists and turns throughout the game, you find that this is one of the most thought out storyline's in a long time.

Enemies:

While in Rapture you will encouter genetically modified humans who have injected their bodies with too much plasmid(a chemical that gives you certain abilities) and their bodies react differently to it and they are known as Splicers, you will face these splicer a countless number of times throughout the game, as they come in different shapes and forms depending on how much plasmid they have ingested. However these creatures are a cake walk compared to the hardests enemies in the game, and they are known as Big Daddy's or "Bubbles" as their master the little sisters refer to them as. But don't worry if you are killed by one of these monsters because you will get revived at the nearest VIta Chamber, In which you can go back and kill them son that you can either harvest or save the little sisters, in doing this you will gain ADAM which is in a way like money but instead of purchasing weapons you can purchases various types of engineering tools, plasmids, slots etc. the difference in harvesting and saving them is that if you harvest them you kill them and gain all of their ADAM, where as if you save them you gain half of their ADAM.

Graphics:

The graphics in this game are as said before breath taking, and are by far the best graphics the 360 has to offer so far. Every little graphical detail has been dealt with to give this game a real life ecperiance. Even when your looking outside the underground tubes at the other side of the city it has been all very well done. It definetly should be played for the graphics alone, and admired for the graphics.

Sound:

The sound is very well done, and it has a great sound that you would only hear in this type of game. However the voice acting I found wasn't as good as it could be, as sometimes it's hard to hear what their saying, but other than that it's top notch. Even when our firing weapons it sounds like a real weapon should sound, and thats good.

Weapons:

There are various weapons you can get in this game, but the most famous weapon is the wrench, which you get very early in the game. Along with the wrench comes the eltro plasmid which also comes very early in the game, and this is the best one-two punch in the game, as it usually kills the enemy with one shot. Other weapons include:shotgun, machine gun, handgun, freeze plasmid, incinerate plasmid etc. The weapons are very well thought out considering that the game was based in the 1960's, they are weapons that would be found back then.

Final Thoughts:

Bioshock is a game that acceives pure excellence and should be played by anyone that owns a 360, because if you don't play this game you are definetly missing one of the best games ever made. Overall rating: 9.5

Right where do I start? The orange box is the best deal in video game history. Every game is amazing and all of them keep up to Valve's great reputation. Team Fortress 2 is probably my favorite game in the package; I think its just plain fun no over complicated control scheme or stupid gimmicks. I just love it when you get 15 kills plus on your sentry, you just great a rewarding feeling. All the character classes are balanced to perfection so theres no dominant class but you obviously have your favorite.

The Half Life 2 collection does the franchise proud as it has complete versions of HL 2, HL 2: Episode 1 and HL 2: Episode 2 all of which are spectacular games.

And then theres portal; the one game that took me by surprise not by disappointment but by amazement. I wasn't interested by this game at first but I finally got into it and it really is the best puzzle I have ever played. It has a linear story but it fits in nicely without taking the focus of the complexity of the puzzles.

This game is very difficult to review, as it has many different facets to it that are good and many different facets that are not so good. To start with, the game brings hardly anything new to the table other than a wireless controller and new songs. It is the same basic guitar hero formula that hasn't been messed with and that is a good thing, but at the same time, the formula is already starting to get stale.

Early on in the game, the songs are entirely too easy on the Expert difficulty. As the game progresses, however, the game gets increasingly harder until you reach the final tier which the developers have made near impossible. With Raining Blood by Slayer, One by Metallica, and Number of the Beast by Iron Maiden, the game has been taken to a new Carpel Tunnel- Level. To beat these songs you have to be willing to submit your wrist to a lifetime of arthritis and pain.

The graphics in the 360 version are well done and all the models have been done well. The only thing that is a little strange is the way the singer looks in the game. The model has been done very well for the singer but the question is why does he have a chin that would rival, and possibly beat out Jay Leno for biggest chin-of-all-time? Ah well, just a small distraction from the addiction that is Guitar Hero and Guitar Hero III is no exception.

Sat, 08 Sep 2007 07:37:19 -0700 EvilTaylor reviewed God of War II for the PlayStation 2... http://www.gamespot.com/god-of-war-ii/user-reviews/494358/platform/ps2/ ...and gave it a 9.5!

Ok lets start off by saying that God of War 2 did something that most sequels can't do and that is make a legitimate claim to surpassing the first game. Well in God of War 2 you can definetly say that, because this game takes the first game that we know and love and transforms it into a possible game of the year candidate.

Let's start off with the graphics, and if you thought that the first GOW game took the PS2 graphics to it's limit your in for a surprise. Because, in GOW2 it takes the graphics for the PS2 and stretches it even further, making the graphics in the second GOW game far superior to the first game which not too many games can say that they did that. The graphics in this game are like no other they really show excellent lighting and blood and gore, the animations are really well done, especially in the high def cut scenes which are really amazing. Definetly GOW2 takes claim to having the best graphics on the PS2 ever. 9.8 out of 10.

Next up is the gameplay which as the graphics is exceptionally well done, there is great movement control from one slash to the next or from a spell cast to a slash, it is really well done. However, it hasn't really changed much from the first game in terms of gameplay every thing is almost identical to the first one, with the exception of a few new moves added to the gameplay. But all in all the gameplay may not have surpassed the first GOW game but is definetly right up there with it. 9.2 out of 10.

Now let's move onto the sound, which once again if you thought the first GOW games sound was awesome you haven't heard nothing yet until you've played GOW2. The music in this game really co-exists with the game, especially at some moments in the game. The sound of slashing and screaming in this game couldn't have been better, I mean you could really feel as if your there slashing and screaming and stuff, the sound of it really really sounds like the real thing, absolutely incredible. 9.7 out of 10.

Finally the storyline, which is what really sold theses games because the storyline is so compelling that it really draws you in, and makes you just want to keep playing to find out whats going to happen next. The storyline basically is that you have killed Ares the former god of war and you have claimed the thrown of the new god of war, well all thing turn array when you want to much power and your forced to team up with the titans to defeat the other gods. I'll stop there before I give too much away, anyways the storyline is IMO one of the best storylines I've ever played and it's absolutely amazing. 9.8 out of 10.

Well there it is a game that takes what the first one did and excels at ever aspect to beat out the first game. If you haven't played God of War 2 yet what are you waiting for, because it is probably one of the best games you'll ever play. Final rating is a 9.6 out of 10. Now surprisingly as much as I like the second GOW game I actually like the first one a little better, probably because it's the beginning of Kratos, but either game is amazing and deserves to be played.

I remember when Pokemon was all the rage I bought blue all my friends bought red and I'd kick all of their sorry ..... So in a desperate attempt to recapture those nostalgic days I went out to buy another installment of the now legendary Pokemon series. Not playing a game like this since the originals came out I was slightly confused, I fumbled through the game trying to get as much advice from other characters as possible, turns out they are not very helpful, when you are trying to get somewhere someone or something will always attack every 3 seconds its 'Wild blah attacks' or 'trainer whosit' want a battle. It gets very annoying and repetitive extremely quickly so I am baffled at how this game kept me playing it. Not very original but it certainly has had some major changes since original release a solid game that should keep the average non-hardcore gamer going for a while, multi player options are good but again repetitive.

The concept of this game is .....errrrr..............barely even a concept. There is little to no storyline & there are women in bikinis. That is about it. Ok so maybe not but still, you pick a character & then play beach games to earn money to but bikinis & other accessories the most predominant game throughout being volleyball where all of the characters (all female) can have a game in their bikinis & needless to say certain things move often independently which is a little disturbing but that is all there is to this game. Graphics yes are very good, sound very good but that is to be expected from a game that is designed to "excite". The soundtrack will however drive you insane along with how mundane the game becomes as all it is is repetitive.

I love western, they are great be it in a book, a film or a game yet surprisingly I have never bought a western game so when this came out it was a must buy game for me. Once the initial purchase euphoria was over I started noticing the game fully. The solid feel of the guns is nice & it in more than one occasion do you find the mere action of shooting said gun really fun, for example during concentration mode (often referred to as bullet time in other games) time slows & you can shoot 4,5 & maybe even 6 (only if you're really good) people with a head shot providing a spray pf blood & your opponents hat flying off into the dusty street. You also have the quick fire mode where you can make your six shooter do maximum damage. You know in all the films where they have the gun in one hand & keep cocking & shooting the pistol really fast? Well this is it & it is pretty nifty even though the game doesn't provide you with much opportunity to use it. You can also quick doors down & set things alight making you feel like a real badass! Unfortunately this is only one character who you play as, the other is not as cool in the all action bang bang you're dead sort of way but isn't without his advantages. He often relies on a bow & a whip & is far weaker so it easier to complete his missions relying on stealth rather than going in all guns blazing.
This game is visually impressive replicating the movie brawls & shoot outs that we all know & love with blood spraying everywhere, dusty streets providing the perfect battle ground & even the odd tumble weed (if you look hard enough). Yes graphically this is impressive but it falls slightly when before a mission there is a little blurb & if you don't have a HDTV it is near impossible to read. But where the major let down is is the sound. Whilst actually playing the guns sound great & there are people screaming once you've shot them in cut scenes it is ridiculously hard to hear what the characters are saying & it is no use turning the subtitles on because as I've just mentioned they are impossible to read. So now we move on to the extras. The lack of ability to free roam is a bit annoying in what could have been such a great extra dimension to the game but that does not matter as it is good fun going through the game for a 2nd & 3rd time to pick up the hidden wanted posters or to get the achievements & once you have completed the game you unlock extra missions which all add to the experience. A very good game!

This game is really annoying! It gives you a quick briefing which supposedly constitutes as a storyline based around invading a small middle eastern country & shooting the Chinese with very little premise to do so & thus out comes the American military attitude. You are then thrown straight into the action without a tutorial or anything & yes I guess I could have read the instruction manual but it is no fun to do it this way & it sticks in the memory far easier if you actually put it into a gaming context. Anyway you are thrown straight into the action without knowing the controls at which point you have no idea where enemy fire is coming from so assuming that the controls conform to normal FPS you start firing. After the first level you are irritated and restless. The sound is alright but it is just a mish-mash & the graphics are of a woeful standard & with franchises such as call of duty & medal of honour this should not be released at all. I would write a larger more in depth review but I grow weary of the mere irritation that comes with even thinking about it.

Sun, 15 Apr 2007 13:29:42 -0700 SonicKid_UK reviewed UEFA Champions League 2006-2007 for the Xbox 360... http://www.gamespot.com/uefa-champions-league-2006-2007/user-reviews/444959/platform/xbox360/ ...and gave it a 8.0.

Design – 8
For those of you who watch the champions league on ITV you will realise that the design of this game is much like the design of that programmes in fact the way the game was designed was in order to give you the experience of watching a match at home on telly so the layout is identical to that of the show which is actually quite satisfying as it lets you feel as though it is a real high light reel from a match. It keeps this theme throughout & maintains consistency with it. It–s relatively easy to navigate & not much of a hassle if you do take a wrong turn. I didn–t give it a full ten though because it lacked originality as it–s a fairly routine design.

Gameplay – 8
Initially I found that this game was awkward to handle as I struggled from the change over of my beloved –PES 6– but I battled on & then found them incredibly easy, almost childlike, however when consulting someone else on how they found the controls they replied negatively citing them as –clunky–. I–m much in the mindset that you–ll either get used to this game fairly rapidly or struggle endlessly but if you have been a –Fifa/PES– fan the transition may be confusing at first but should not pose much of a problem.

Audio – 8
It might be a little untoward to say that this game is the first sports game in the history of sports games to have half decent commentary but I–m going to say it anyway. This is because the commentary is constantly flowing & not just fragmented, it adapts along with how the game is progressing & it changes enough not to be inanely repetitive. Yes it does repeat itself but that is to be expected of any game (sports or otherwise) also following on the theme of the ITV effect it also has acquired the voices of Clive Tydlesley & Andy Townsend & yes they still make comments that make you cringe but that happens with football commentary anyway.

Visual – 8
When designing this game it was clearly the idea of all to go for a cinematic experience as opposed to that of other sports games which try to get you into the action as much as possible & luckily it has paid off here. Big name stars look stunning & when you get so far into the game the perspiration is so life like you feel you need a shower after each match however there is a slight problem with some of the lesser talents of Europe–s footballing elite because although they clearly represent those of who they have been created around they still have that slight generic look about them. In all their attempts of trying to get the characters as realistic as possible they still have a waxy texture to them & sometimes, just sometimes you feel like you–re standing in the sports section of Madame Tussauds.

Multiplayer – 8
In essence much the same as the single player but there always has been (& always will be) a bit of edge when playing a human opponent who has the ability to adapt their style of play at a whim or who is capable of making irrational decisions & getting their star centre back sent off. However this is nothing unique. What sets this game apart is the card system where you can build your dream team & trade players with others, take it online & see if your team matches up to those of the Xbox Love community.

Longevity – 8
Football is football, it can not & will not change so no matter what game mode it has been put into, it–s football. But if you enjoy football you will devour the various delights presented to you. You have the champion–s league (as expected), you have online/offline multiplayer which offers up many a treat, you have the card trading system & the dream team system which will sap many an hour out of your life & you have other things which I can–t remember. Simply put, if you get into it it–s gonna be a lot harder to get out.

Achievements – 8
EA are renowned for making games with laughably easy achievements but this not so much. You have the –Win Champions league– which seems logical enough & offers up 100G.Nice. Then you have –Badge of Honour– win the champion–s league 3 times 200G. Very nice. But then you have unbeaten streaks & go however many games without getting a card. Certainly not impossible & if you think about can be achieved with relative ease but not the usual EA –insert disk get 10G– that I was expecting.

Overall – 8
A solid game that can easily hold a torch to Fifa & PES but it will never do as well as these other 2 games as it only offers the 1 tournament to compete in & the public want variation. Yes this game does have its pitfalls & its follies & is certainly nothing different to the already well established football titles but you will enjoy it, even if you do only play it until the end of the season.

As soon as I saw this game for the 360 I knew I had to have it. I never played the PS2 versions so I didn't really know what to expect, but seeing that I'm learning the real guitar I was interested to see if it would help me with that. Anyway, the game. The guitar feels well made. It is much smaller than a real guitar, but you would be suprised at how comfortable it feels. Also, the fret buttons and the strum bar feels loose and easy to press. In the actual game there is a large variety of songs from metal to blues and this makes the game acessable to virtually anyone. The game has quite a tough difficulty when you are playing on hard and expert. Whatever ability you are, there will always be a challenge. FInally, this game is very, very addictive and with new songs coming out to download from Xbox Live, you are unlikely to get bored of the game anytime soon.
Buy it!

Design – 7

This game has a shiny veneer quality about it opening up with the BBC snooker theme & images of well known snooker players like Ronnie –O Sullivan & an introduction to the harrowing commentary. When you get into the game it–s easy to navigate around & find what you want to do. It has a trophy cabinet section where you can view all your tremendous victories (or like me you can keep it as a very nice empty table) but a serious issue is the loading & the amount of time it takes to change from screen to screen but looking past that it is very shiny & well polished.

Gameplay – 7

Initially I couldn–t get anywhere with this game & I had my balls flying everywhere. I found this quite a disturbing experience, boredom set in & I hated the fact I had to come home & play this game for this review but after hours of embarrassment I finally got the hang of it & I found it an enjoyable experience but to become successful in the game you have to be really, really good at it because more often than not, if your opponent gets on the table they will grind your balls into dust which can be a painful experience because there is little you can do about it. Equally you can turn to pool which again, once your opponents on the table you don–t have much of a chance & on more than one occasion I have been defeated without ever even needing to press a button. However this part of the game can be significantly easier as the pockets are quite a bit bigger to those in snooker making it easier for you to put your balls in the holes (how many crude references is that now?) But in essence it is still very much the same game.

Audio – 0

0 may seem a little harsh but sitting there listening to John Virgo say –I could go for a cucumber sandwich right now with lots of salad cream– is really something I could do without. Don–t get me wrong; there are other great quotes like –I–d like a cup of coffee, not that I need the caffeine because there–s plenty of stimulation for me down there on the table– but I really don–t want to hear that. If you progress a little further in certain competitions you do manage to avoid the undeniable charms of Mr Virgo by bumping into John Parrot & Steve Davis who are the most boring men...-not just in snooker-...but on the planet. If you do manage to ignore this piercingly boring/infuriating commentary it–s all thrown out the window when they say –I hear someone pushing buttons every time someone lines up a shot– or in the in-game advertising saying –I still get plenty of practice on the table but recently I–ve been playing World Snooker Championship on my games console–. We–ve already bought the game, stop trying to sell it to us. Of course if I were to give audio a point (which I–m not) I–d give it for the satisfying gentle click of the cue ball hitting another ball or actually managing to get John Virgos voice even if he does say things that make you want to hunt him down & stuff snooker balls down his mouth.

Visual – 7

Visually not stunning, after all it–s a green table filled with little spheres of colour. However the players all look very good & it has all the top stars but compared to other sports games like Fifa, Virtua Tennis, and Pro Evo they don–t really stand up to much. There is little else I can say on the front really.

Multiplayer – 7

Is exactly the same as single player...next

Longevity – 7

Yes, if you like snooker games you–ll like this game (& you also need to do something more interesting, for example actually playing snooker) because it has snooker which will keep you going for a hell of a long time trying to win all the trophies & then the same can be said of pool. Once you–ve done them you can go onto hybrid which is where you can play a snooker tournament & then a pool one which I don–t really see the point be but each to their own. Then you can unlock trick shot which is good for a laugh & golden cue which is a weird game which is a mixture of snooker & pool. There is certainly plenty to soldier through

Achievements – 7

Nothing out of the ordinary, win a frame, win a tournament so nothing more than the expected.

Overall – 7

A nice game for the snooker/pool fan but if I were to make a suggestion it would be save the £50 & put it towards buying a table, some cues & a set of balls as it is much more fun & doesn–t come with John Virgo.

Sun, 25 Mar 2007 07:48:03 -0700 EvilTaylor reviewed Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic for the Xbox... http://www.gamespot.com/star-wars-knights-of-the-old-republic/user-reviews/437156/platform/xbox/ ...and gave it a 8.8.

Now you may have noticed that I have decided to do a review for this game on the xbox even though it came out on the PC first. My reason is because the xbox version runs alot smoother and to me anyways is alot better.

Ok let me just start off by saying that Star Wars:Knights of The Old Republic is way better than the second one and to me is the best Star Wars game of all time. I mean no other Star Wars game acceives what this game does with the graphics and the gameplay, but the thing that really sets this apart from oth star wars games is the phenomenal story line. You never know what's going to happen especially with the flashbacks of you have. It really is a game that will make you think one thing and than it turns out to be another thing. This game may seem to kinda of boring in the beginning since you don't have a lightsaber yet but once you keep going you seem to get more attached to it and it really will grow on you and make you want more. The game has a very good core and will make you want to keep on playing it until you finish it. Another really cool aspect is that you can choose which path you want to take between good or evil, which was cool because it makes you want to go and beat the game twice just so you can see what happens if you choose the other path. Another great thing is that once you acquire you lightsaber you can decide to make a lightsaber that suits you, you can change between three different lightsabers and quite a few different colors you want the beam to be.The game doesn't have to many flaws except for the fact when your talking to non-human creatures they make that stupid noise and you can't understand them so you have to read which is ok but the noise really gets old quick. The sound in this game is fairly well done but could use some minor adjustment to some of the battles and the guns in the game. All these flaws aside Star Wars:Knights of The Old Republic is a great game nd a must own if you into science fiction games, and a twisty story.

Sat, 24 Mar 2007 05:56:28 -0700 SonicKid_UK reviewed Worldwide Soccer Manager 2007 for the Xbox 360... http://www.gamespot.com/worldwide-soccer-manager-2007/user-reviews/436671/platform/xbox360/ ...and gave it a 8.6.

Design As the name suggests you take on the role of a Football manager of your favourite club (providing your favourite club isn–t some non league one that wallows in their despair & has their team talks in a shed like Llangollen F.C) it even has a handy search system when you start the game to track down even the most obscure team (except Llangollen F.C) & once you–ve chosen your team & sorted out the personal details you want your manager to have you can jump right into the action. Of course the first thing that strikes you is the sheer choice of what you can do. –Well that–s a good thing isn–t it?– I hear you cry & I would have to agree with you there but some might take the view that if it takes you more than 30 minutes before you start your first match it–s not worth sorting through everything. Certainly it–s not necessary as your assistant manager takes care of the training schedule & your scouts have the job but if you do feel the necessity to maintain control of every little aspect of your club you will get lost in the various pages of information for quite some time but once you–ve got a few hours of play under your belt things should be quite easy to find. Alternatively you could use the manual to help you navigate the halls of your virtual stadium but it is as large as a Dickens novel & unfortunately lacks the plot & character development of one. But as one would expect from a management game the design is never going to be one that amazes.
Gameplay Taking no active part in the playing of the football match it–s hard to describe the gameplay but I can certainly say that it is addictive. Unlike many of the other managing games when you watch a match the same things do not always happen which (to my knowledge) is a first in such a game. You have the team talk option which plays a large part in the gameplay with a bad team talk leading to your downfall & a good one leading to a fantastic victory. The team talk isn–t completely random however. It is linked with what you have said to your players leasing up to the match & how you–ve presented your team to the media. This brings up the interaction part of the game. Should you take a dislike to your opposing number you can play mind games with them which can completely trip their team up before your next match against them or like me you can just slag them off. For example, everyone who isn–t a Chelsea fan thinks that José Mourinho is a jerk & when talking to the media you can say that –I hope his team crashes & burns– which brings up the subsequent screen in the news section –[Insert your name here] has told skysports.com that he will take much delight in beating Mourinho–s team & he & all the [Insert your clubs name here] fans will revel in them failing in all competitions they participate in.– Which inevitably brought a smile to my face? There are many features that I could have mentioned but I thought this was as good as any, and it is little things like this that sets this game apart from the others & makes the experience all the more fun.
Audio/Visual
As one would expect there is nothing to test the power of your console here as the game focuses on charts & progression & results. But there is a nice sheen to the whole look of the game which is pleasing to the eye. In sound there is again nothing much in the game to produce the sound. When watching the match you can hear the roar of the crowd which is a nice touch but you could live without it.
Multiplayer This seems like a pointless addition to a managing game because all you can do is...well...er...manage your team which isn–t a particularly exciting prospect, but if you want to prove to your mates that you could take your club to the top better than the current manager this might be a bit of fun. You can set up a league against your mates as well which can be a laugh but it–s not a feature that will excite the mind.
Longevity If you like these sort of games you will be only to happy to while away the hours, but looking at statistics, progress reports & transfer lists can become boring so you may only be able to take this game in short bursts but as I said it all falls down to how you react to this sort of game
Achievements In short, don–t bother. You have the relatively easy ones like –Sign a player– which gets you a whopping...1g & there are a few achievements like this. Others are ridiculously hard like –Get a club from the lowest league into the highest league– which takes a long time & is a lot of hard work for a measly 40g. Others you will unlock in time like –win a cup– etc but none that provide a high yield.
Overall A very solid game that I can–t get enough of but others might not really get into the swing of it. Put simply; if you–ve never played give it a go. If you liked the previous ones you–ll love this one & if you didn–t like the previous ones there is nothing here to make you want this one.
