I love the Mario vs Donkey Kong games.  In fact, I finally got around to finishing Mario vs. Donkey Kong: Mini-Land Mayhem just a few weeks ago.  There's only one title I know of that I haven't gottan around to yet, and that's Mario vs Donkey Kong: Minis March Again because I never owned a DSi.  I should probably check to see if the game's available on the eShop now that I have a 3DS.  Anywho, my interest was piqued in this game when I saw it announced a couple of Nintendo Directs ago, and for 10 dollars, I simply had to get it.

I will say this, though, the game is lacking in presentation.  Is it surprising?  It's only 10 bucks.  But, there are no little cutscenes of Mario going after Donkey Kong with his minis.  I miss those.  As for gameplay content, the game's packed, especially for just 10 bucks.  The main game has four seperate puzzle modes with three of them having at least 50 puzzles.  The other mode, Giant Jungle, has three massive puzzles that took me more than a half hour to solve on each one.  Unfortunately, I can't help but wonder how much better this game could have been had it not been relagated to an eShop title and had actually been designed as a full priced retail 3DS title.

So basically, the game works like this.  The playfield has holes everywhere, and you have a tube that fills up with tiles that have pieces of track on it.  Curves, straights, intersections; you place different tiles around the playfield for your mini to make his way to the goal.  Along the way, he can pick up M coins for extra points.  Collect all three in a level and earn a star.  There are also coins that sit on clouds, and to get these, you have to create a closed loop.  Do so and that segment raises up and also spawns extra time pick ups.  Make a mistake?  You can also drop a bomb and shatter a tile.

The game's highly addicting.  The first mode, Mario's Main Event starts out ridiculously easy and for the first 20 or so levels begins to get boring, but once the difficulty ramps up, you get hooked.  It can get pretty hectic trying to manage your path while keeping your mini clear of obstacles at the same time not lettting your tile pipe get backed up.  If that happena, it's game over.  The more you play, the more modes unlock, and you also unlock mini games and toy minis.

The mini games are nice little distractions that involve you pulling a slingshot back and firing your mini at targets, or chipping away at an object until it's blown to pieces or raising and lowering a mini on a platform to collect coins and dodge Bullet Bills.  Even though they're just mini games, they aren't really engrossing, so you - or at least I - won't feel compelled to play them for long.  You'll just want to dive right back into the main modes.

I got to tell you, though, the later modes of the main game have some evil puzzles.  Peach's game has you using only a select number of puzzles while Toad's has you moving rotating titles and swapping other titles around.  I already told you about Giant Jungle, and those puzzles are just nefarious.  Still, I'm having a lot of fun with this game, and everyone with a 3DS who likes puzzlers would do good to download it.  Again, it's only 10 bucks!

And, I must say, I'm not really looking forward to it.

Sure, I'm probably going to get a rare treat of food and dessert, like I usually do for my B-day. I might even get a few decent gifts, or, at least, I'll be given money, so I can get what I want to get with it. And I'm really thankful that my family will do that sort of thing for me.

So, maybe I am looking forward to that.

However, I'm not looking forward to the reminder of the progression of time.

The reminder that time is moving, but things still haven't changed all that much for me.

I still don't have a job, same as last year. I've spent this whole year looking for a new one, with no luck. So much I want to do hinges on me getting a job.

I still want to do film, but because of my lack of transportation, I can't really. That's something else that hasn't changed since last year.

I recently missed a shoot where I was supposed to be an extra because I couldn't get a ride, not even from my folks, because some things came up that week that they needed the money they would've spent on gas for. It could've been an important shoot for me, if I was able to make it. But, since I wasn't able to make it, it wasn't. There were a lot of people I wanted to work with on that shoot, and now, I doubt that they would want to work with me. Fortunately, I was just an extra, so they really didn't need me for the shoot, but what if they had? The guy who was my contact on the movie said "no worries" when I told him my situation, but that doesn't keep me from worrying. I definitely don't want to get work on another movie until I get a car, or, at least, my scooter on the road. Which I can't do, because I don't have a job.

I still don't have a place of my own, same as last year. I really am getting sick of living with my family. Sure, I am really grateful to my folks for letting me live with them free of charge, because without them, I'd be homeless, without food, and without internet, but they really cramp my style. My little sisters also cramp my style, more so then my parents do.  If had a job and a car, I wouldn't have to live with them anymore.

I also still don't have a girlfriend, same as last year.

I haven't seen that woman from game night for almost two months time, since she hasn't been showing up. I don't think it's because of me, since I haven't said or done anything besides be nice and play board games with her. From what she mentioned during a conversation we had, she probably isn't going because she doesn't like being out in traffic. Or it could be something else I don't know anything at all about, since I haven't had the chance to get to know her better. I know she goes to game night on Sunday. But, my feelings for her have cooled, and I'm not sure I want them to be sparked again. However, I still want to be friends with her, if not anything else, if I ever do see her again.

I am keeping my options open. There are plenty of women in the world. However, how many of them would want a boyfriend who doesn't have a job, or a car, or a place of his own? Not very many, if any at all. That's why I haven't really pursued a serious relationship, no matter how much I would like one.

I think I'm starting to feel my age. I'm four years away from 30.

What's worse, I'm feeling stuck.

On the bright side, I might be going back to college.

I found a relatively cheap college in Florida that I should be able to afford with what's left of my FA. And, if nothing goes wrong, I should be able to finally graduate, not to mention study something I already know I want to do for a career, since they have a film type degree. I've already been accepted, but there's paperwork that they need before I can even find out how much FA I'll be getting. If all goes well, I should be attending this fall. I'm trying not to get to excited about going back to college. About studying something I've always dreamed about doing. About being around college girls again. Because something could still go wrong, and I won't be able to go.

I'm just hoping things will change, and I'll be able to get a job, and a car, and a place of my own. And, I hope it's soon.

Then maybe I'll be able to look forward to my birthday, instead of dreading it. Hopefully, it'll be better next year.

That's all for now.

Further to my previous blog with the promo marketing stuff (i.e. crap I give away to help promote the name but didn't really expect people to buy) I've now started selling shirts/clothes.

I've just release 4 so far to gauge interested. I only make a couple of bucks per shirt but it's money for nothing and every bit helps so I thought I'd see how they go.

Here's what I've done so far:

Shirt 1 - The C117 Games Logo

http://www.redbubble.com/people/c117games/works/10342891-c117-games-loco-pollo-logo-tee

Nothing too exciting here. This is just for me and the other staff to wear around PAX. Doubt anyone'll know who we are but hopefully the loco-pollo (chickan) catches peope's eye and makes them wonder. Better get myself to the top of the Google search engine by PAX eh?!

fig,white,mens,ffffff.u1.jpg

Shirt 2 - HIVE Playable Characters

http://www.redbubble.com/people/c117games/works/10351289-hive-4-square-characters

As the title suggests this is a shirt showing the four playable characters in HIVE. I chose to eliminate smoothing in the hope that it might appeal to the retro hipster crowd. This shirt is a sure indicator that I've done NO proper marketing research in my life... if I had there'd probably be something to indicate what the shirt related to! Oops, not even a reference to C117 or HIVE.

fig,asphalt,mens,ffffff.u1.jpg

Shirt 3 - King Nick

http://www.redbubble.com/people/c117games/works/10351359-hive-hail-to-the-king-maybe

If any of you ever played Nick's Quest (my first "proof of concept" game) you'd be familiar with King Nick. Based on Nickosaurus-Rex from this very sight he's a perverted sort of chap who has a tinge of the stupid. He's has a cameo in HIVE too however he's been bumped back to Duke because of what happened in Nick's Quest. Anyway this is a shirt about him.

Again... no reference to C117 Games or Nick's Quest. :S

fig,navy,mens,ffffff.u1.jpg

Baby Growsuit - Future Chickan Slayer

http://www.redbubble.com/people/c117games/works/10342925-c117-games-future-chickan-slayer

Last but not least is this idea I had at 1am. Put it up for a laugh and, so far, it's been the only thing to sell. Lol. Bet these people don't even know what a chickan is!

This self-sustaining entity of gaming goodness, though, was not only located, but popularized by Will Wright's Sim City. The solution was simple; if you want a game that will never end, strip it of any goals or points that might mark the reaching of a finishing line. Written on a piece of paper, it sounds crazy, impossible even, but the reality is that those games exist and are quite popular. Nintendo, as a company that seemingly attempts to have franchises that cover each and every genre without major overlaps, has created their own unique version of the formula. Instead of a simulator of some mundane reality, which is the direction most great games of the genre tend to head towards, they have created a wacky animal village where raccoons monopolize business, a dog drops by to play guitar every once in a while, and ridiculously cheesy lines are bound to make you chuckle.

Animal_Crossing_DS_zps6cb959c4.jpg

Twelve years into its history, Animal Crossing is about to reach its fourth installment, and while the in-game possibilities are many, most of the franchise's fans will converge to a single point when it comes to what it needs to do with New Leaf, which is to recover. The original Gamecube title was bursting with visual charm, and the simple joy and relaxation one got by walking around the village was more than enough to warrant a daily visit, whether it was to see what new items were on sale, to check if new fossils had popped up, or to discover what new fish the tides of a new season would bring. The online mode brought by the Nintendo DS' Wild World opened up horizons so effectively that it made the original look rather restricted, which should be the goal of every sequel; and the punctual additions and tweaks made here and there vastly improved gameplay. Whereas Wild World was a good leap, City Folk was a stumble in the attempt of a hop; the ideas pooled in-between games ended up not being enough to warrant a sequel, and the result was a pale game where the only supposedly big change was the arranging of all shops in the same location.

Arriving in the United States nearly five years after its predecessor, a time that is good enough for the gathering of many additional gameplay elements, New Leaf looks like a solid contender to replace Wild World as the definitive game in the series. Its handheld nature is very sensible, because a game like Animal Crossing heavily benefits from the possibility of being played anywhere at anytime, after all, it is centered around time-based events, and it is best enjoyed on short gameplay bursts. As any open-ended franchise, Animal Crossing holds an incredibly big array of possibilities to be explored, and while previous games of the series took more gentle steps towards opening things up, New Leaf seems to jump right into the fire by placing players as the mayor of the town. At least theoretically, it is a choice that will bring forward many new activities, tasks and responsibilities; giving players an extra reason to make daily visits to that world.

tumblr_mm3nwxYF7O1qituqxo5_1280_zps5cbd0

While often being brave in the concepts utilized in their games, constantly swimming against the current; Nintendo has been occasionally conservative in the development of a few of their franchises, and Animal Crossing undoubtedly suffered from that with City Folk, but New Leaf looks like a firm step in a correct and significant direction for the series.

Anyone interested in joining up to play? I've got another friend who will be joining me tonight; it will be both our first time checking this game out. So I was kinda hoping that I could wrangle in some more people from the site here.

I don't play much online but this game seems like it could hold some promise. I'm not trying to form a clan or any long-term commitments so don't worry. I'm just asking if a few people would also be interested in joining my friend and I. Let me know if you are.

I just wanted to jump on here and thank you all for your support recently. Some of you may have seen the report on MCV -- if you haven't, please check it out. Loads of people have since been in touch with some very kind messages, mostly expressing their opinions on what happened, and what's happening to GameSpot UK in general. The GameSpot UK Podcast page offers some particularly interesting feedback, all of which I've been paying very close attention to.

Subsequently, a lot of people have been in touch asking what I'm up to now. The last couple of weeks have been really exciting -- I've put out the first episode of my new weekly podcast, which not only reunited me with Jane Douglas, Lucy James and Dan Maher, but also went to number one on the iTunes chart. I've also been busy writing for Wired, appearing on BBC and Sky News, and updating my YouTube channel with new videos. In the next few weeks I'll be sitting on a BAFTA games journalsim debate, interviewing Rhianna Pratchett at the Hay Festival, talking about the next Xbox on CNN and BBC, and of course heading out to E3. If you're going to be attending any of those events, please say hi, and if not, I look forward to hearing from you over on my website or on Twitter. There's loads more coming down the line, but for now, please let me know what you think! See you all again soon.

In terms of storytelling, likeable characters and memorable moments. The Last of Us looks brilliant and with it being about a month away do you think it will be able to be as good as Uncharted. I mean this is a Naughty Dog game we are talking about.

My choice? Harmony of Dissonance. I chose it because it got a lot of praise, but a lot of fans pan it because of it's easy difficulty, sub-par music, and overall feel of it trying to be Symphony of the Night and ultimately failing.

I've put about an hour and a half into it now and I'm actually enjoying it. It's much, MUCH easier than Circle of the Moon, but not as difficult as Aria of Sorrow. A few of the bosses are somewhat challenging, but move somewhat slow and have easier patterns to learn than most Castlevania bosses.

My only complaints with the game so far is the music and the character animations. Castlevania is known for its excellent music, so much that even less than stellar titles have fantastic music. It's one of the many things the series prides itself on. So when I started up the game and heard this  it made me cringe a bit. Seriously, the GBA can do A LOT better than this sound wise. It does have a few memorable songs that aren't bad, but for the most part you won't want to listen to the OST.

As for the character animations, well...you'll just have to watch some of this. If you don't feel like watching the video the best way to describe the animations is "cartoony", especially the walk style for the main character. It just doesn't fit the style of Castlevania and it just feels off. Most of the enemy animations are nice and smooth, but the main character's and other people you meet along the way just looks silly. It shouldn't bother me so much, but it does.

If you're a Castlevania fan I do recommend this game because you will enjoy it as long as you don't compare it to Aria of Sorrow, Symphony of the Night, or any of the other metroidvania games.

But i would like to have a top 15 Rare Games countdown as well, but i think it will be down the road since i don't want to overkill the subject of Rareware too much.. I have another planned countdown for  Top 10 Characters for Super Smash Bros Wiiu/3DS and  Top 10 Kart Racers and more so stay tuned..

As for new purchases i have made a few since my last update so lets get to it!

271094b.jpg

I figured the price would go down for this game, glad i both waited and bought this game for like 35 bucks its well worth it, the game is a masterpeice every way through bringing back lots of good memories of RPGs and why i love the dying genre even more. I feel more games should be like this game and its easily one of the best RPG's for PS3 amazing graphics, touching story, fun gameplay, witty story telling and lots of depth, like peeling an onion i feel like i am just hitting the surface of what this game has to offer..

271128b.jpg

My older bro Bought this for me for my birthday and i am very happy he did and thankful. LBP Karting was a game that was looking forward to all last year, but when bad reviews came upon release i kinda loss a bit of interest and hoping for a price drop. It feels like LBP and features all the great customazation and creativty the series is known for. The Controls are a tad touchy and power ups are crazy making this even more hextic then mario kart at times.. But Overall i am having a lot of fun with this game and i think people are too hard on the game, it exactly what i expected LBP karting to be.. so whats to complain?!

YES!! My favorite Rolling Armadillo is back in another awesome 3D Western Tower Defense action game! With Improved Graphics, New Allies/Rangers, improved Salon Segements and a new Train to protect, the game has everything a Rolling western Fan would like. So if you enjoyed the first on or are looking for somthing new and fun on 3DS give Dillon a Roll..

cover_large.jpg

I thought i give this game a try after seeing pretty good reviews and watching vids the game is all about platforming collecting Acorns and doing so in the fast time possible.. its a very simple fun game that is a nice addition to my 3DS eshop Library..

I recently Beat

I plan to write a full review for this exciting installment of the Luigi's Mansion series, but overall The Gamespot review of this game had to be the worse pile of crap i have ever read and the lady just stinks at the game. its something the 3DS owners need to play, it features fun missions that breakdown each mansion and awesome ending.. It has more of nintendo Mario feel and its perfect for Portable play.. for more see my review in the upcoming Days/weeks whenever i feel like it!! lol

Anyways until next time...

So, I'm going to buy your game.  Because your Platinum and I think you're the sh*t.

But let's also get a steady stream of ports going yeah?  There are at least two other games I want from your catalogue in my collection again.

And if you want, you can release Anarchy Reigns too.  But the other two games are much, much more important.  I don't have a 360 any longer and I need these two again.  So do something about it, please! :3

Still, I get to fight the Desperado Elite!  That's pretty badass in its own right!

Enjoy!

- While exploring the city, you may encounter someone offering free hugs. The offer may sound tempting, but be aware that the person giving you the hug will in fact demand payment afterward. Also, after getting your hug, it's probably a good idea to take a very thorough shower when you return to your hotel.

- There are plenty of landmarks in New York that you'll want to take pictures of. Remember to spend as much time as possible taking your picture. That way, all the people waiting for the flash to go off on your camera will lose patience and walk in front of you just as you take your photo. Its a great way to get lots of picture of people's heads!

- The Empire State Building is a popular tourist destination. When traveling to the Empire State Building, be sure and get right in front of it before asking a random passer by where the Empire State Building is. Seeing a New Yorker sigh and point upward is a priceless tourist experience.

- If you get a phone call while walking through New York, don't bother moving off to the corner of some building before taking your call. Instead, stop and take your call right in the middle of the sidewalk. This will help keep all the people walking behind you on their toes. It will also give people a nice obstacle to maneuver around, livening up their journey.

- Manhattan is a big place, and it can be hard to know your way around. If you're on 32nd street and want to know where 35th street is, feel free to ask a random passer by for assistance. Be sure and act astonished when told it's 3 blocks away.

- Even if English isn't your first language, you may find yourself talking to some New Yorkers you've just met in English. If you're with some friends from your native country, feel free to stop speaking English in the middle of this conversation and talk to your friends in your native language, as if the New Yorkers you were just speaking with aren't there any more. We find that endearing.

- There are plenty of great stores in New York, so why not buy a video game while youre here? The people behind you in line will enjoy listening to the clerk ask you if you're going to take this game out of the country, and then explain what region locking is.

- The subway is a great way to get around New York, but don't be in a hurry to get to the subway platform. Instead, stop for no apparent reason right in front of the steps to the platform. Watching people try and squeeze through the narrow passageway you've created in order to avoid being late for work is an experience every tourist should enjoy.

- While riding the subway, be sure and blast any music you may like at full volume, so the whole car can hear it. After all, keeping that music to yourself would be rude.

I hope this helps any potential NYC tourists out there

Yeh, so I decided on these 2 games instead of 1 new, over-priced title. Honestly, I was leaning towards getting Gears of War: Judgment but I saw that it was still fully-priced, which I don't think is worth it. As much as I REALLY want the game, and my sister saying that it's totally ok if I get it, I will feel bad about it. I'll just wait for either a price drop or for a used copy.

Binary Domain and Lords of Shadow were some 2 for xx-price deal, and it was still way cheaper than Judgment. I actually brought used copies to the counter, but the dude working there swapped it out with brand new copies and I was like, wahey thanks! Even better is that these are games I've been wanting to play so I'm really happy with what I got.

It's gonna be 1am soon but I'll be checking out Lords of Shadow after I'm done with this post. I wasn't aware that the 360 version requires 2 discs though. Apparently if you install the first disc into your HDD, you can then just stick in Disc 2 for the whole duration... or something to that effect. Ugh well I'm one of those rare people still using a 20GB hard drive and struggling with space, so I'll be having fun with disc swaps.

Oh and before I forget, I've beaten Warhammer 40k Space Marine, which eventually grew into a huge dull-fest. The only good thing about the game is that it got me interested in knowing more about the lore of the 40k universe, so I ordered a few books on it. Looking forward to getting them in the mail soon.

Then I installed Duke Nukem Forever, and it honestly isn't a bad game at all. I'll get more into it in the next blog post maybe. For now, I'm off to play Lords of Shadow.

Completed Far Cry 3. Had so much fun with it, decided to go on and get the Platinum while I was at it. The story was decent and kept me interested enough, but it was the gameplay that kept me coming back and striving forward. The way this game lets you accomplish your objective any way you want to is great and that is one thing I love about games that really allow you to tackle any situation the way you want. If you want to be stealthy, you can. But if things don't go according to plan, you can fight your way out of a bad situation if you have the right tools on you. I always had an assault rifle, shotgun, light machine gun, and a sniper rifle (modded with a zoom scope and sound suppressor). The sniper rifle was usually always the first weapon I would use before attacking outposts. Eliminate the enemy silently, then try to get to the alarms to disable them. If I couldn't get to them, then I would snipe them and then the rest of the enemy. Occassionally, things wouldn't go to plan and s*** whould hit the fan. Which wasn't a problem. I would just pull out the shotgun or the other weapons in my arsenal, and get busy. There was never a situation where I felt frustrated in this game. If I died, I knew it was because I had messed up.

Great environment in this game. The jungles, beaches, and ocean just looked great. And dealing with the wildlife could bring unexpected situations. Case in point, I was swimming to get behind this outpost so I could attack from the portside, and damn alligator got ahold of me and I ended up having to stab his ass to death. That was the awesome thing about traveling by foot. You could be sitting in the bushes doing recon on an outpost and then blam! A damn tiger would try to make you breakfast! That unpredictability of the game in that aspect was just exciting.

I'm not a fan of FPSs, but FPSs with RPG elements I am a fan of. This is one of those games you shouldn't miss. Like I said, the story is decent, but interesting enough to keep you involved (especially with the way the villains are presented, Hoyt and Vaas are great). It is the gameplay that will keep you coming back. I'd easily give this game a 9.0. I fully recommend it.
