These are the first video game reviews I've written for Gamespot in years. I was never proud of my reviewing style back then but I feel it has improved heavily since. I hope you take the time to give them a look.

http://uk.gamespot.com/manhunt/user-reviews/810602/

http://uk.gamespot.com/manhunt-2/user-reviews/810610/

I must warn you these are long reviews. I feel as though I have to really go into detail whenever I review games and movies. You don't have to read all the way through though I'd appreciate a like at least. As for the games themselves, great overall but very gritty and violent, definitely ones to be kept away from the kiddies. Manhunt 1 is the superior game in my opinion though I still enjoyed Manhunt 2 alot despite what many say. Enjoy.

He didn't pull me from a burning building or rescue me from a frozen lake. But when I was suffering from a depression that had me constantly on the brink of suicide, he was the man who kept me on this side of the abyss.

He was my therapist, but that word is so clinical, and doesn't accurately describe who Dan was to me. Friend? Yes, even though I usually only saw him in the confines of the office of a mental health clinic in Warren, PA. Father figure is more accurate, I suppose, but whatever you call him, he was the one that convinced me that life was worth living. His office was the safest place on the planet. It was there that I felt most vulnerable, and most cared for. He is the reason I am still here today, rather than a memory, or at very least, rather than a human husk, withering away in a hospital for the remainder of my days.

He shared with me stories that a professional therapist shouldn't generally be sharing with his patient, and yet it was exactly the right thing to do in my case. I would record myself playing Christmas music on cassette tape and give it to him as a Christmas gift. I went to a church where he was a guest pastor one Sunday and marveled that this man could radiate such kindness and generosity. I read about his exploits with his boy scout troop, and wondered if those young men knew how fortunate they were that someone like Dan could be in their lives.

I also know that Dan was an imperfect man. But I wasn't prepared to discover that several weeks ago, this man responsible for me being here to share this story today went missing. Vanished from his house, his wallet and keys left behind. No note, no goodbye to his wife Penny, no sign of a break in, no indication that something was wrong. He was simply gone.

The police have searched, and the Conewango Creek and local branch of the Allegheny River have been scoured. No one knows if Dan, at the age of 69, wandered off to take his own life, or fell into the river and was washed away. Perhaps he was discontent and troubled, and decided to travel where he couldn't be found and live out his last days in peace. Perhaps he simply went for a walk to some unknown place and suffered a heart attack, and hasn't been found in spite of the exhaustive search.

But it doesn't seem that Dan is coming back.

The last time I talked to Dan was a few years ago. He sent me an email entitled "The real story...for those with a warped sense of humor." It was a typical viral email that people might send, this one with pictures of fairy tale princesses as they might have ended up. Snow White with her several babies and a good-for-nothing prince sitting in front of the TV. An obese Little Red Riding Hood wandering through the forest, sipping on a Big Gulp and carrying a basket full of bread. It certainly wasn't the most socially sensitive communication, but it's what I have.

I love you Dan. I hope that you are close to God now.

Edit: My mom shared this YouTube link with me of Dan leading vespers in 2012. http://youtu.be/dmVaCIoxeI0

As you can all see I am back and swinging on the good ol gamespot.com. Our soapbox team is back up and I could not be anymore happy to hear such news. Expect me to post a lot more editorials, well mostly editorials, and some goofy updates to fill you in on my eventful life. For now I will fill you in a little bit of my life. I have literally just been going to concerts and playing video games, honestly that is it. BIG NEWS, in my life is that I am preparing myself for college! I have begun applying to schools and I hope to be attending Bowling Green University next fall as a Falcon! I am entering their Journalism program and I hope I can expand my literary knowledge and AP writing skills and write on the topic of Video Games as a free-lancer or a staff writer for Gamespot itself! That is honestly my only dream to be apart of the Gamespot.com staff.

But now back to my blog! This is on how I review games, seeing as I am now going to be reviewing more games as well, its time I set the foundation for how I review. I have realized how important scores are to people and it is quite sad. They believe any game that gets a 6.5/10 is atrocious when really that is above average? Here is my syllabus and my standards for how I review games because honestly it is nothing how many people do.

1-3 Scores: Abysmal/Terrible/Why would you make this?

Sometimes games just go wrong, either the developer messed up or the Publisher pushed to hard to have a game be created and that lead to a medicore title. But sometimes games are just so bad you wonder why they even made it, that is what my scored games 1-3 represent. Almost laughable, these games are the worst of the worst. I would not even wipe my backside with the discs they are on. Lackluster gameplay, no story, linear and all around half-assed.

3-5: Bad/Lackluster/Very Unpolished:

Now lets get this out of the way, games rated 3-5 are bad, but that does not mean they are not playable. These are games I would still play and possible enjoy slightly, but as a game, it is just not up to the average par. Games like Duke Nukem Forever, I gave it a 4.5/10. I actually enjoyed it, amazing huh? But lets be honest, that game was terrible as a whole. Its how the gameplay adds up, the story, its ambitions before its released and its hype. The aesthetics of the game need to be good and frankly, these games do not reach the bar.

6-7: Good/Worth a Look/Fun

A game to be in this category is good, these games are your Wow this looks good! I will get it off Gamefly! kind of games. They are worth the look and ultimately pretty good games. They display decent gameplay, sometimes a good to phenomenal story and have the core mechanics of a good game. These games are average to slightly above average and generally symbolize a good game. Any game in this rating zone (in my opinion) should be honored.

8-9: Great/Fantastic/Worth Every Penny/DO NOT MISS DEEZ FRAGGIN GAMES!
To some 8 ratings are really not that good and 9 is the best, for me that is not the case. I think any game that reaches this rating is amazing, it is not easy for a game to hit my 8-9 mark at all. These games have near perfect gameplay, fantastic stories and solid core mechanics that games need to be successful. Many games get put in this category for professional reviewers which in my opinion makes these magazines and sites unprofessional as they hand them out like plastic trophies at a Rec Center baseball league. I treat games in this rating category as Gold Medalists and ultimately give these games heavy praise. Most of my favorite games are in this Category.

10: Perfect...there is nothing else to say.

Tens are rare, they are the rarest of all ratings I give. To earn a 10 you do not simply have to be good or great and just breeze in for a ten, no, you need to be flawless. Games that earn tens from me have flawless gameplay and I mean very very very very little to no hiccups, decent to great graphics, a good story to a phenomenal one and it needs to be overall created with flair and imagination. I have only had two games fall in this category ever and even then that is a lot of games. I DO NOT GIVE THESE OUT OFTEN AT ALL.

------------------------------------------------------------------------

There you have it! Now remember these guidelines when reading my reviews

-Ryan

Fri, 23 Mar 2012 09:25:26 -0700 DR-ZMBK writes: So overrated "over-hyped" (3 of 3) http://www.gamespot.com/users/DR-ZMBK/show_blog_entry.php?topic_id=m-100-25977370 Hi everyone,

I wanted to write about this subject last week, but I had so much work to do on my Master's research.

I know that this subject will cause a lot of controversy. Please remember that this is my opinion, you may like and you may not, either way let me know what you think.

There are a few games and franchises, which I think are overrated or over-hyped. I am going to list them alphabetically and will state my reasons as well.

1- Bayonetta: Totally overrated. Weak story, poor graphics, and ugly voice acting. The action in this game is so fast that sometimes I had no idea what was happening on the screen. I didn't like it at all.

2- Brutal Legend: Poor graphics, tedious gameplay, annoying sound track and an unbelievable story. Totally overrated.

3- Call of Duty (franchise): Don't get me wrong, I loved Modern Warfare when it first came out, but since then, every call of duty is the same. The same engine, the same mechanics and even the same plot over and over. What bothers me the most, is that reviewers use COD as a standard for comparison. Every FPS is compared to COD in some way, and every time COD has to win. I am telling you COD is not even that good. Many FPSs were underrated because of it, andthat is wrong. I know the game has a massive multiplayer mode, but that's it. Battlefield and Medal of honor are better franchises in my opinion.

4- Dead Rising (franchise): Poor concept, repetitive gameplay. You kill zombies and save civilians. That's it. Overrated.

5- God of War (franchise): This franchise is so overrated and over-hyped. I know, I know, God of War III was a technical achievement; the graphics, the scale, but that's it. The other games in the franchise are the same, the only difference is the boss encounters. Why would reviewers compare every action game to GOW, I have no clue. Why is it considered as a standard, I have no clue either. In my opinion Castlevania: Lords of Shadow, and Dante's inferno were better than GOW3. Both were compared to GOD3 and then underrated.

6- Prototype: Where do I start? I don't think this game belonged to this generation of consoles. It should have been released on the PS2 and the XBOX. The concept of the game is very good, but it was delivered poorly. Graphics belong to the past generation, gameplay is tedious and confusing. What really bothers me is that inFAMOUS was compared to it in many reviews, while there is a huge difference between both games.

I would like to continue, there are many gmes that I would like to mention but Idon't wantthe blog to be long and boring. If you liked this blog and would like to read more about overrated games, please let me know.

Please remember, this is my opinion. Some of you will agree, many will not. Either way, please let me know what you think and why?

Are there any overrated "over-hyped" games that you would add to this list?

Thank you for reading.

Peace!

The bios of these characters hints at the possibility that the story is centered around a revolution. Many of the characters have some type of involvement in politics. It's still not clear who the main character is, where the location is, or if it is even a GTA game itself. But I can see that it will have something to do with a large conspiracy and let's hope rockstar can have something to show before I can't take it anymore and go on a shooting spree. In Liberty City, of course. Remember, you heard it here first. March 31, 2011.

Unfortunately, I don't see a change in this, it's really impossible to take care of updated blog here, but I'm not going to delete my account or nothing like this. I guess some topics and blogs can be writted be me sometimes, like this time

I'm certain about one thing... one posts is too short to talk about everything that happened with me in this time of my ausence, but I'll try. Let's begin...

In the moment that I writted my last blog, I was dealing with a channel of TV here in Brazil (I'll not make drama, direct in the point ) called Multishow, we did a contract and I they gave me a chance to star one TV show called "Ser  Que Faz Sentido" based on the name of my youtube channel 'N o Faz Sentido'. In this sitcom I play myself (Yes, myself Felipe) a guy that searchs to be an Actor, and crazy things happens everytime wiht him (oh wait, not with him, with ME xD) That's it, I already recorded the first season of the Show, 15 episodes with 15 minutes each. And that's it all my busy in these days...

Here's a chapter of my TV show... watch at least the 6:02

image001

image002

With this images and the video you realize that my TV show is very "normal" right

I finished all the recordings but events and some other things took my time, I can't do anything to evade this...

About the Christimas and the New Year... I really sorry to not pick a time and wish Merry Christimas and Happy Neew Year to you all, really sorry for that... the case is, I was in Paris, so the last thing that I see in that local is Internet, I was of vacation of all

image003

Moulin Rouge

Anyway, if still valid my Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to You All (late but done).

Another point is, a lot of people are asking to me here in my inbox about the flood in Rio de Janeiro, my city, friends, unfortunately a lot of people falled with this disater, the state of calamity are declared here... fortunately, Me and family and friends are okay, our houses aren't in risk areas. But i felt sad for the people here. Thaks to all that asked and remembered me, even I far from here (I talk about GS) for a long long time... really my Thanks! Again, it's everything okay with me.

And that's it, I wish i could talk more her, I have things to talk, but it's best to leave to another updade right...

Oh, and my gaming life it's okay... I'm not a traitor od the games

Thanks for the read, I don't know when I'm back, but this is not a goodbye

Civilization V

Sid Meier's Civilization V Boxshot

RUSE

R.U.S.E. Boxshot

My thoughts on two very different strategy games, please comment after reading your thoughts on each game and argument if you agree with my reviews or not.

Also I am very tired since I have been playing both these games incessantly, especially Civ V, I'd like to remind everybody that the release date for two really influential games of this year is coming

ASSASSIN'S CREED : BROTHERHOOD

CALL OF DUTY : BLACK OPS

Black Ops Thoughts:

Browsing some Youtube channels such as Machinima or NextGenTactics, I have seen that Black Ops is turning out to be a fine project, it seemingly has no flaws and from the gameplay videos I saw the purchasing system will be really innovative as players can decide what to buy and unlock and when. Also I am really hyped about the new wager matches game modes, which are:

Gun Game

Sticks and Stones

One in the Chamber

The one with the gun rotation( dont know the name)

And I think there was another, anyway to practice for these games, specially for Gun Game, I have taken the idea from and NGT director GUNNS4HIRE to play MW2 with a ****called litterbug, meaning that each time you kill someone uou must pick up their weapon and continue the cycle until you win. This will help the player gain finesse with every weapon available for use in the game.

Finally I would like everyone to put up their thought about how the multiplayer aspect of DEAD SPACE 2 will be and how will EA keep it from being broken or even monotonous.

In other news I just sold my PSP Go, It's a pain not being able to play Patapon 3 and God of War: Ghost of Sparta, but at least I got rid of it.

Final Fantasy Versus 13 Xbox 360 job listing appeared, which led to many speculation that the game is coming to the Xbox 360, but then the job listing did use "or" rather than "and" and isn't battle planning and level design planning done the same on both consoles, and besides what does battle planning and level design planning have to do with a particular console. Have not square Enix lost enough momentum with Final Fantasy already: Final Fantasy XIV is purely broken, Final Fantasy: the 4 heroes of light didn't deliver, and Final Fantasy XIII was in my opinion was a fantastic role-playing game in it's own right but does not compare to previous installments, and If Versus is ported to the Xbox 360,will not the game be held back by the Xbox 360's storage limitation.

Anyways here are my most anticipated of the current generation consoles:

10. Call of Duty: Black ops

9. Infamous 2

8. Gears of War 3

7. Final Fantasy XIV (I am hoping for enhancements in the PlayStation 3 Version)

6. Team ico Collection

5. Killzone 3

4. Little Big Planet 2

3. Metal Gear Solid: Rising

2. The Last Guardian

1. Final Fantasy Versus XIII

I have finished my first PS3 game. I did buy some other games first but decided to buy a BRAND new one and see how it went. My choice was Castlevania : Lords of Shadow which I bought to burn some of my spare time until New Vegas came out. I completed it and have posted a review here. Have been unhappy with some of my other reviews, which I felt were a bit rushed so I spent a good deal of time writing this one and I am happy with it.

Overall I really enjoyed the game, which is just my type of game...so go out and get it if you have been thinking about it!

In other news, a game I have been waiting for a while to get is about to be released. New Vegas, ever heard of it? . The lucky North American continent is getting it first but hopefully my local dealer (sounds like drugs or something), keeps his word and lets me know when it comes in. So hopefully I can have it a day or two early . I hope all the lucky people who get it at midnight and beyond really enjoy it!

Bad news on the New Vegas front, the first DLC, released around Jesus Day, will be Xbox exclusive. Basically meaning PS3 owners will have to wait a while because its obviously going to be a timed exclusive like with Fallout 3. Options? Play the game, forget about the DLC, when a GOTY edition is announced, sell the game and buy the GOTY. Or just bide your time and wait for the DLC!

I have also started Assassins Creed II again for the PS3, got 1000g on it for the Xbox...showing I enjoyed it a bit. Picked it up for a few  s last week pre owned, so I have been enjoying running through this great game again.

Anyway, another series of blogs will be starting soon, wouldnt mind hearing some ideas!
