TV integration?  THAT'S A PROBLEM!

Instead of getting excited for the upcoming Xbox, I see a console that is no longer a box.  The box cannot exist without about 300,000 other boxes called servers spread throughout the world.  MS has put so much of an emphasis on the Cloud that they've spent hundreds of millions improving their networks.  The next XBox isn't what you buy at the store; it's what you pay per month.  Quite frankly, you cannot enjoy the Xbox One without an always online credit card connection.  At least that's the impression I got.

Oh, and of course, there's the reports about the always online crap and the used games fees again.

http://kotaku.com/xbox-one-does-require-internet-connection-cant-play-o-509164109

http://www.gamespot.com//news/xbox-one-has-preowned-fee-report-6408671?fb_ref=rec_features

(According to Xbox Support's Twitter, the GS article is false https://twitter.com/XboxSupport3/status/336937800702238722)

Obviously, MS wouldn't be spending any of their unveiling time denying or confirming these reports.  We probably won't receive official confirmation until E3, but damned if what I've heard isn't damning.

As for the next Kinect, I don't want it.  I made the big mistake buying one back in 2010, which is still sitting in its box.  The problem is, I simply don't have the room for it.  I won't have the room for Kinect 2.0.  Same goes with Illumiroom.  Why push something so hard that can't be enjoyed by everyone?  Push more games.  All you need for games is a TV and a controller.  Don't keep pushing Smartglass. Don't keep pushing Kinect.  Push games.  PUSH GAMES!

This is embarrassing. This is MS at its most embarrassing, and I'm talking more embarrassing than Kinectimals.  More embarrassing than Usher Raymond.  It's so embarrassing, it makes me embarrassed just to know that I own an Xbox 360. It is appauling to see a company who practically bullied their way into the industry full of people who felt they had no business being there and shut them up by bringing freaking gamesm into shifting so much into social and media integration and focusing on games as an afterthought (turning Rare into a shovelware Kinect developer is reprehensible).  Yeah, Sony's doing more social things too, but they're actually doing it alongside games.

All this XBL and Cloud fluff.  All this Kinect.  All this SmartGlass.  These futuristic integrations because we're too lazy to look for a freaking remote.  It's so god damned unnecessary, and MS will have one helluva time convincing me that I need to buy their machine.  It doesn't matter at this point now.  I'm so done with MS that I don't care how many new exclusives they release, it's not worth putting up with all the MS BS that comes with it.  Oh, and what the hell is with the name?  Xbox One?  The first Xbox was the Xbox One.  Is MS so inept that they forgot how to count?

Yeah, you can bash the Wii U all you want, but it's more of a gaming console than the Xbox One will ever be.  Don't agree?

Bioshock Infinite vs Skyrim

Bioshock Infinite is this years Skyrim: Flawed in just about all design, but completely forgivable due to its overwhelming atmosphere.

Bioshock Infinite vs Spec Ops The Line

Bioshock Infinite is exactly what Spec Ops: The Line wouldve been if its game elements wouldve worked. Instagram filters and chained shooting galleries of a bland shooter that relies mostly on a storyline with an immense twist.

Bioshock Infinite vs Twilight

Bioshock Infinite is like the Twilight series, minus the scruples: Its third act becomes as convoluted and incredible as Bella becoming impregnated by a vampire baby that wants to eat her from the womb.

Bioshock Infinite vs Proteus

Bioshock Infinite is what Proteus wouldve been if they had forced traditional gameplay elements in it: Simply being present in its universe is more consequential than any other, lesser element of the game.

Bioshock Infinite vs Far Cry 3

Bioshock Infinite is Far Cry 3 with opposite priorities: A gorgeous shooter with unnecessary ultra-violence that is accepted because of the overall products excellence.

Bioshock Infinite

There are bound to be a few more succinct comparisons to be made in a snappy one-liner. If you have one, feel free to leave a comment!

I started when Burning crusade launched.  I thought after they introduced a whole new world that this is how it would be for every expantion, whole new worlds that got bigger.  I loved to just travel around though hated the old Final Fantasy style walk-through and fight every few seconds though at least there is in some places a road that allowed you to avoid some fighting, and later flying mount was great.

I was wrong and after a while WOW became stale, with the same mission types same battles, same kinds of bosses.

I would LOVE for Blizzard to come out with a REMAKE of WOW for the PS3 and XboxI. Here are some suggestions so it will be DIFFERENT than WOW for PC.

  1. Instead of just different Realms on different servers with different names.  Why not have people's progression and new updates and expansion pacts on different servers.
  • People would start out in WOW levels 1-29 when they reached lvl 30 they would have to move to a new group of servers for level 30- 59
  • Each group would have a time table thus events in each server would have a beginning middle and end.
  1. for those who did not complete to lvl 30 would chose another server that would star or already started.
  2. for those who have gone to level 30 they would move on to a new set of servers.  depending on the outcome of what happened in the previous servers there would be several servers to chose from.

Quest would take on new meaning as time passes, and quest have an effect on the world around.

  • Smaller basses and camps/outpost could change hands, or be destroyed.
  • dungeons could be beaten and closed.
  • keep NPCs could die and quest changed to other NPCs or stopped.
  • Dungeons NPCs and all NPCs would also gain in skill, level as time progressed. The NPCs would grow in number (unless killed) in a timely fashion and gain foot holds outside their area of control. There will always be a minimum number of NPCs around the area as is now, but left unchecked they will quickly grow in numbers and take over larger areas.

LIMITS

  • A TIME limit would be in effect.  The amount of time that people can play per charter wold be limited to X amount of hours per week.
  • Limited total Number of charters per account.
  • Limited Number of same faction charters per realm
  • Only one faction per server/realm and they may not go later on to same server/realm

Guilds will play a more important roll in their faction and on the land.

  • guilds could build a outpost, that can turn into several levels before becoming a huge castle.
  • Guilds and all Players can help any City, by buying from that city. Its wealth can grow due to number of NPCs in the city which is  direct result from how many quest are completed and how much buying and selling happens in the city.
  •

Factions would now be up to 5 or more. Alliance, Horde, Neutral  Burning Legion (several different groups), Undead (Lich King, Savantas, separate group, Death Knights) Dragonflights.

  • factions against another faction can fight faction to faction just like now in PVP battle grounds,  While larger battles could have allies join with each other and fight other allied groups.
  • ...

New skills,  the limited attack and defend of players needs to be changed.

  • New classes, and added abilites to the classes.
    1. Summoner, ability to summon different creatures to attack or defend
    2. Buffer- defense or offence uses huge library of buffs to aid players or to lower enemies abilities.  (this would mean that charters that buff would lose such abilities)
  • changes to classes would indlude
  1. some classes able to shoot from far away
  2. different classes of mages or add sorcerer.   the difference would be in strength/distance. The farther they spell the weake the damage.  Added local teleport, and multi clones. have objects hurl at target, reflect spells, deflect incoming objects.
  3. Hunters need more traping skills or split into hunters and trapers.

Just a kid who spent his time after school on one of two things: PS3 games or Gamespot.

It was summer here in my country, and I had nothing to do. Thankfully, I found out about GS Unions at the right time: when the community was thriving. I immediately found a way to open my own union and spend my time writing articles, posting threads, inviting people and talking to my officers. Was it a success? Well, no. A few months in, I gave up because activity wasn't at the level I expected it to be. There were only about five to ten people visiting the union. So I left without anyone complaining.

After a few years I gave it one more shot, just because I was that passionate a PS3 gamer. I came with the idea of inviting lots of people from the PS3 forums, because they surely owned a PS3 or at least were interested in it. It was a success and activity was sky high.

I remember some of my partners from ChrisPperson all the way to JasonDarksavior and how they were instrumental to the union's success all those active years. Could you believe we once had a Twitter account with over 150 followers and a YouTube account with over 4500 views? And we were going to break the 2000-member barrier. This is one of the reasons why I came back again after the union's second death.

I left last year I think because I felt burnt out. I couldn't keep up with school and it hit me that I would earn nothing from being this aggressive in managing PS3FC. And so I left again, but this time, I assigned a replacement for my position.

Fast forward to now and things have changed big time. My parents found out about the iAcademy here in the Philippines. And it's the first in Asia to offer a Game Design and Development Course in College. I passed the entrance exam and now I know that I have enough time to manage PS3FC not like before (too much effort) but in a better way for myself and the union in the long-term.

Now the union that I created when I was twelve has a third life. And I want it to be its best. I guarantee you it will be the last. PS3FC now has daily news from yours truly. And I have some other plans for the near future. Care to join me at PS3FC?

Fri, 13 Jan 2012 23:29:31 -0800 MAILER_DAEMON writes: A new blog? Madness, treachery, or maybe just... time. http://www.gamespot.com/users/MAILER_DAEMON/show_blog_entry.php?topic_id=m-100-25969100 I think the funniest thing I noticed in my time off is that some people still talked to me as though I was a mod; either wanting my help with stuff via PM or getting blamed for some heinous injustice. Even asked at one point to put my $.02 in a thread in the mod boards; they'd forgotten that I couldn't at the time. In any case, I'm back now; I started back right when a lot was suddenly changing, and I still don't know what the heck is going on really. I'm just kinda learning as I go for most of this, as are the rest of the mods it seems... I half-expect Staff to make an "example" of me at some point on a whim. >_>

So why did I step down for a few months and basically vanish from GS? Several of you know that I've been pursuing my Master of Arts in Biblical Studies for a few years now, but last November I re-took my area exams - the written and oral portions, and they looked me right in the eye as I sat at that table and they told me I passed. The exams serve as a sort of capstone; you take them or you write a thesis, and passing the exams or successfully defending your thesis is the last thing you take/do before getting the degree Happy day, yes it was, but it wouldn't last. A few days later I get a call saying that I was missing a class on my transcript, which had already been addressed by a previous head of the dept. After they got my message, another problem rose up - going through my transcript, they found two classes showing up as F's. Shame on them for not finding this after clearing me to take the exams twice; shame on me for not checking my grades myself to make sure that the professors had changed those two incompletes. >_>

So a few weeks after that gets taken care of, a few other problems rose up, eventually leading to them telling me that the office of Academic Affairs was putting a hold on my graduation due to GPA still not being high enough with the grade changes, but the head of the department and dean appealed on my behalf, saying that I shouldn't be punished for problems on their end (basically, 4 heads of the department, two of them interim, over the course of 4 years, with me getting cleared twice to take the exams, but there were two years that this could have been brought up, and they felt like it wouldn't be fair to me to have the rug yanked from under me b/c of their mistake). Unfortunately, the higher ups didn't agree, so I get a call a week and a half before all of this telling me that they're not letting me graduate and I should be prepared to take more classes. What do I learn from this? Verify what someone tells you, even if they're an authority figure that you should be able to take at their word. I'm not bitter toward the people that fought for me, but it tells me that I need to stay on top of things.

By the week of graduation I'm reading to make a formal appeal myself directly to the VP of Academic Affairs, but I got an e-mail later saying that they'd reviewed my situation and decided to let me graduate... this was 4 days before graduation day. Won't lie, it was one of the most emotionally trying times I've ever dealt with, to be at such a high at finally finishing only to be told that it wasn't good enough, then having a month of hell and not knowing before being told no, then suddenly told yes. I walked on Saturday the 17th of December 2011, getting a scarlet Master's hood and my degree, the whole time wondering if they were going to either pull me aside and tell me to go home or find some excuse later to say that the degree is invalid, but I've been assured by everyone that once they give you that paper, it's final. Such are the times that try men's souls... I think I'd be here now completely broken if I hadn't chosen to let myself feel everything that I'd been holding back these last few months.

On top of all of that, my grandfather, who was helping me study by discussing my exam material with me, suddenly died of a heart attack after an ulcer sent him to the hospital just days before. He was a brilliant man who was in med school by the age of 18 and was a medical doctor in his 20's. He practiced medicine for over 60 years, up to the week before God took him home at the age of 85. He wanted to see me graduate so badly; I'm the first of his grandchildren to pursue post-graduate education, and though I may not be a doctor like him, I still plan to pursue a Ph. D someday, which he was also highly encouraging about. I learned so much from him in these last 5 years, like my family history that traces its origins back to the age of the Norman Invasion in England (I even have a family crest that I never knew about) and the early Virginia settlers in the days of the American colonies. Even after his passing, looking through this Korean War vet's old pictures revealed that his father, my great-grandfather, was a WWI doughboy, when before all I knew was that he was the head of the school board in my hometown back in the day (fun fact re. Korean War - my cousin's husband is from South Korea, and when they were still dating and she introduced him to our grandfather, he mentioned that he'd fought in the war, and the reply was "thank you." As you can imagine, the air changed tremendously after that ).

Losing a family member/loved one never comes at an ok time, but I never had the chance to fully grieve the way I needed do. Only one friend offered to stand beside me during the graveside and let me cry, and between work and studying for the exams, I didn't really get to have any down time (I only found out afterward that I could have used up to 3 days of bereavement time...). I knew for days leading up to graduation that with all that's happened over the last few years, the success of getting the degree could either cause me to become extremely bitter or broken, and if emotions popped up at any point during this, I needed to just let it happen. So after church the night of my graduation (lets me sleep in on Sundays ), the manliest tears flowed forth - all the mourning that didn't get finished, the emotions that had been building over the last few years of the grad school ordeal, the month of hellish unknown, being told that the last 4 years of your life had been wasted, then being told that it was all going forward anyway - the battle was over, and at least for a time, I'd be allowed to let the guard down completely.

I can't remember the last time I've actually looked forward to my future without feeling like something was unfinished or that I had regrets. Even now, as I need to find a teaching job for the fall and a second job to supplement my income over the next few months, I feel more fulfilled, as though what I've had to deal with turned into a story of endurance and perseverance to show that the worst can happen but you can still come out of it successful. Even in humility, it's ok to reflect and accept success once in a while, though it should be a stepping stone for future successes rather than one to rest on, especially at the age of 28. For a time I looked at the paper thinking that it was illegitimate due to how I came to get it, but one thing overrides it all - when I wrote nearly 11 pages single spaced in the span of 6 hours to take those written exams, my three professors looked at them and told me I could take the oral follow-ups. After an hour and a half of being asked all kinds of questions by two men with Ph.Ds from The University of St. Andrews and Durham University, respectively, and one with a Th.D from Union Theological, and at the end of all that they conferred and told me that I demonstrated Master's-level proficiency. In the end, it's what you can do with what you learned, not just that you can say you learned stuff, which is the whole point of taking area exams or writing a thesis - it's a practical step that you don't take if you're just trying to get a grade in a classroom.

So what's next?

As I said earlier, I'm looking for a teaching job, preferrably at the college level, and since my hours at the bookstore are being cut a bit due to the Christmas season ending, I need to get something else to help make enough money to live and still pay bills. Maybe save a bit while I'm at it? Down the line I'm wanting to get a Ph.D, but first, work and earn some money, living a bit along the way. Continue to meet and get to know new people, while letting those I care about know how I feel that from time to time - never know when it might be the last; my sole remaining grandparent turned 85 last Wednesday, and we're celebrating her birthday this Sunday. With school out of the way, it's time to bring a lot of things together and get in shape like never before, and maybe refresh or learn a foreign language while I'm at it - I still want to see Europe, whether it be a long vacation, an internship, or maybe even future studies.

Oh yeah, I'm testing for my second degree black belt in Iaido next month. No sense stopping that just because some people on the internet think I have mental issues for studying the sword and learning how to train my body to do stuff.

Sadly, the last one was in2007and since then there hasn't been a new one.

It's time for a renaissance however! The Union Awards are back, although we need help from everybody to make this as successful as previous years.Hereis the link to the thread where this is being worked upon, we're looking for volunteers and people to help spread this throughout all the unions in gamespot. We want to make this as unbiased as possible and have as many people as possible from the community involved in this project. Let's raise awareness for unions and honor those who've been successful!

Help us bring back the Union Awards by copying this and posting this in your blogs and unions!

Tue, 29 Jun 2010 07:01:32 -0700 MystikFollower writes: My first Entry. I realized I'm Agnostic yesterday. I'm so relieved. http://www.gamespot.com/users/MystikFollower/show_blog_entry.php?topic_id=m-100-25840547 Well, I've never actually posted a blog on GS before, so this should be rather interesting. I doubt anyone will actually read it anyways, so no harm no foul. I can pretty much write anything. The only people that even have a glimmering chance of reading this wonderful loaf of words would be OT, since that is the only forum I post on. Anyways, on to the point of this blog entry.

Many people have known for awhile that my spiritual beliefs we're basically Christian/New Age/Buddhist beliefs (quite a mindful I'm sure you can realize), and for the past 6 months I've been doing near constant study of many different belief systems and ideas about what this "God" thing might actually be. I've read the entire Conversations with God series which claims to be a contemporary message from God, basically a New Bible. The concepts in it, I had to admit, made far more sense than anything I had ever gleamed from the Bible. I believe in Jesus, and what he did for us, but I still don't accept many aspects of Christian faith and the Bible it is based on.

The CwG series is basically all the New Age beliefs wrapped up in a tender cover of Christian and Jewish influence. It claims to be from a God that does not Judge, and does not condemn, and lives in an absolute state (meaning the Totality of all existence, Unmanifested), that is completely incomprehensible to our limited perspective. It is the One Consciousness, according to these books, that drives the entire Universe, and all of form. Everything is basically this same thing, in different energy forms and vibrational frequencies.

To be honest, those beliefs made so much sense that I completely adopted them into my personal belief system, and decided to find a way to reconcile those beliefs with my belief in Jesus Christ. It was difficult to do, since as you know, every faith is rather different in ideology, while still retaining the core teachings of "Love" and "Compassion". But life in recent months has not been an easy feat, and I've called into question many of my supposed new beliefs. Even my beliefs in Jesus. I just can't match personal experience to what I've learned. I don't feel God. I don't know God. I can't begin to fathom what God even means. And to be honest, NONE of us can.

God is as undefinable as undefinable gets. Any religion or Bible, any supposedly divinely inspired text, is still being pulled through completely fallible humans who are incapable of truly grasping the Totality of God and what a being such as that's Purpose and drive would be. I've been in literal turmoil for the past month, trying to figure out this puzzle, crying out to God to just speak to me. Let me know he's there. Just one hello. Just so I know, I'm not completely alone in this vast horrifically dangerous Universe. That there is a meaning to this, a purpose to everything. That it's all leading somewhere, and that all the pain and all the struggle was not for absolutely nothing. That's why I've become Agnostic. I've decided that whatever God is, whatever the afterlife is, I'll never understand it or know it, until I die. And if there's nothing, then no harm no foul, but that still just makes life pointless. \

Honestly, making that decision was rather freeing for me, and alleviated some of my stress and worry. It's nice to know that whatever is going to happen, will happen. If it was for something, I'll be free, but there's no point keeping myself in turmoil Now over that. I'll spend my entire life searching, and never find the understanding I'm looking for and then I'll die somehow, having wasted a lifetime of experiences on pondering God and existence and things that unknowable for our Limited experience. Life is a serious of sensory perceptive experiences, that's all. Some rather enjoyable, some rather awful for our Egos, but I think I need to focus more on the Now and those experiences that I'm having cause that's all that really matters at any time. Anyways, I think I've rambled on enough that even if someone reads this, they would have stopped by now. Thank you for reading, voices in my head.

For you see my grandfather and I were never close and in fact never spoke. So while the rest of the family is in mourning I'm feeling subtly out of place as this hasn't made a significant impact on me emotionally. I'm sure I'll have my time of mourning at his funeral and even as heartless as I may sound it's no different to me than for a stranger to die. Call me a heartless bastard but it just doesn't bother me. My granfather has been in bad health for a little over 15 years, and to be honest I'm surprised that he's made it this long. I don't mean to sound disrespectful, but when it's time to go it's time to go and I've embraced this hard fact and did so many years ago. I should also add that my grandfather didn't want much to do with me (just to help you understand a little better my situation), but over the years it became a mutual feeling.

To be honest I feel more for my mother, and father then I do my grandfather.

Anyways I'm finding comfort in peeling back some bandit wig on Borderlands and I've some to realise that gaming is one hell of an emotional outlet. Anger, sorrow, loneliness... no matter the feeling gaming is there for you. Immersing yourself into a work of fiction and releasing a bit of emotional distraught to help weather the storm that of reality. So... Have you ever found yourself in a similar situation comforting yourself through gaming?

Please feel free to share your thoughts.

I'm now in my third year of college. After trying to switch to biomed engineering, I went back to my original bio major and pre-med track. Of course, now my schedule sucks. I left school yesterday to study at home, while everybody is partying. Why do I have triple the work compared to all my friends? Oh that's right I want to be a doctor. I guess it'll pay off in the future but now I'm really sick of this ****.

And some people said I'm too young to be a junior in college. I'm 19, but I was born in December so I AM turning 20 this year... just that I'll be 20 for only about a week in 2009 before it's New Year's again.

To finish off, I'm going to NY Anime Festival next weekend so me and my friends will get our nerd on: an ok ending to a crappy month.

Have you seen the new ODST commercial? CHECK IT OUT. Amazing. Now this commercial makes me think what's really going on in the Halo universe that is never really shown in the game. You don't think about how these men and women in the story sacrifice their lives in what seems to be a losing war. The covenant have superior weapons technology and are stronger physically, exluding the grunts. Seeing that the humans have no chance against the covenant; no wonder they look at the Master Chief for hope.

Anyways, what are you're thoughts on the commercial? Do you like it? Does it change your perspective on the war against the covenant? Halo Movie in the future?
