If you've seen the covers, you'd probably think of it as just eye candy, but even with art like this:

:Grimm Fairy Tales 1.jpg

Grimm Fairy Tales is not risque re-imagings of old fairy tales. Yes, Red Riding Hood looks sexy, but the actual stories are darker and closer to the original versions than any bedtime story or Disney movie. Each issue features a frame story and the grim fairy tale depicted on the cover. The frame story shows the setup in the modern world and focuses on Sela Mathers, a woman who tries to help people by telling them the stories and purveying a message within that is meant to help change their lives for the better.

Firstly my own reaction to the news in it's uncut unedited form http://youtu.be/lGiMoojE8V4

So I'm sitting at my PC desk I have Gamespot's live coverage of the Microsoft conference streaming not much is exciting me. Suddenly the screen glows a green hue and the letters KI are formed this is when I knew Killer Instinct was set to return. We were treated to a short 30 second trailer however just seeing those letters was enough to send me into a crazy frenzy screaming It can't be true the neighbors must think I'm a lunatic by now. I cared little surrounding their opinions of me however as the game I've waited nearly 20 years for is finally getting it's well deserved release.....on the Xbox One

My initial excitement slowly turned to dread as I realized the game was an exclusive on MS's new console. My thoughts turned to money, was I seriously going to spend more than  500 (console, game plus another controller) to enjoy an experience 20 years in the making? Damn right you are, says my inner 14 year old self, you gotta be joking says my 30 year old hardcore gamer pychy. To make matters incredibly worse the more I saw of the game the more I wanted to get my hands on it. Every new KI related video made me hunger more for it, and unquenchable thirst that simply would not be ignored.

Delving deeper into the core mechanics the developers Double Helix are really pushing to make it tournament worthy and casually appealing. Punishing turtle like play and balancing out the combo breaker system is pleasing to the ears of the hardcore tournament player. However alternate colors and costumes plus a comprehensive 1 player experience promise joys to the casual onlooker. The game certainly looks the par too with fully destructible stages fats flowing combat all in beautiful 1080p 60 fps.

At the moment I am in two minds as to what I should do, I love KI and the new game looks amazing however can I really spend that amount of money for one game? What would you guys do given the circumstances?

If you take a look around you'll see a new profile picture, profile banner, a new blog header, a new signature on fourm posts, and changed my name to show up as purple on fourm posts.

I thought it was cool, something blog worthy because it's been so long. But yeah, Operation: Phoenix is my Machinima series taking place in Halo 4, after the end of the game, story spoilers for Halo 4 will be partially involved.

But hey its coming soon, if you want you can check out the trailer and be wary of the first episode coming out sometime next week. That link will be to my YouTube Channel.

Since Sony is going to possibly announce the PS4 this Wednesday and I hear about 720 rumors I might as well talk about them.

PS4 to have streaming for PS3 games

Looks like PS4 will allow you to play PS3 games after all...through streaming. You need to be online at all times to play PS3 games on it. Might as well own a PS3 in that case for full control and avoid connection issues though it's more convenient to play them on PS4.

PS4 might have a screen on controller

There have been prototypes of the PS4 controller to have a screen on it. I wouldn't mind it as long as it's done well.

PS4 to be 400 bucks

I'm fine with that, though I don't buy consoles at launch, only later.

PS4 to make you pay an online pass when buying used games

Eh, as long as I can play the game used...

720 to have 500GB hard drive, Blu Ray and Kinect

I'm fine with the 1st 2 but they need to improve Kinect for games, Kinect is mainly a success in sales, not in high quality games though.

720 to block used games

Probably the most insane rumor of them all. I don't see it happening and if they go for it I would be shocked. There's so many things wrong with it, like:

Can't find that rare game new since used copies don't exist

Makes renting games impossible with not enough copies

This will make it so games won't drop as fast, longer to wait to get that game you want for a reasonable price

Allows devs to exploit their practices

Killing the used game market

Yeah I don't see this happening. Can't wait until Wednesday though!

Decided that my relationship with university is a very....peculiar one...so until I know for sure if it's something I want to fully pursue I'm trying to pursue entering the work force to see if that's the right option for me. Though I am 24 years old now, I still haven't found exactly what I want out of yes. Yes i love to write, play music, design, etc...but I don't know what Id like to pursue ads a career...maybe I can find something where I don't need a BA or an MBA...who knows but I'm willing to find out.

I have blogged in the past about working with the OVR (Office of vocation rehabiliation) and have a counselor I regularly meet with to discuss this. She signed me up for the POWRR program, which, essentially is a program designed specifically for those with disabilities to get entry level (or higher) position at any UPMC facility (for those of you who dont know, UPMC is a worldwide healthcare system, who specialize in hospitals, health insurance and so on). All I had to do with partake in three seminars and i became "POWRR certified" which meant that when I apply for a job at UPMC, they will look at my application to see i have that certification and it willl help my chances.

The seminars weren't bad...they just made me uncomfortable. A lot of people signed up for this program and ALL of them have had job experience..whereas I haven't. I never had a job due to a lot of reasons..one of the biggest being I wasn't sure what I could handle or what I wanted to do. So many of the people there had elaborate degrees and tons of work experience and there I was...with absolutely nothing. But as long as I can get a job, which will eventually build into a prospective career than it'll all be worth it. As of yesterday I got my certification..so the job hunt begins.

I worked with my counselor on filling out a resume now I just need references and to fill out the extensive job application and I'm golden...really hoping I find something I can handle/that I enjoy doing. But right now it's uncertain what will happen...I just have to keep trying. I won't lie, this is all a bit overwhelming but a lot of things in life are. I just have to give it my absolute best and hope for as much.

I'll more than likely start working part time but I'd rather ease into it than dive head first 100%. A little worried if I do work part time though for a few reasons..getting there (The hospital is within walking distance but if it's really treacherous outside it might be difficult...especially if I work a shift that ends later) and I might have to work weekends...and my weekends are usually booked due to my band and my girlfriend (only see her about once a week now) but it's something Im sure I can look out.

Things are changing...it's scary but it's a good change, I think.

UP THE IRONS!

I've personally seen this a lot but it doesn't usually bother me unless its a huge spread (exp: I give something a 9.0 and others give it a 4.0); this difference could be different expectations for the game, not liking the genre, believing the graphics to be subpar, etc. Then theres games that most of the general gaming public will view as near perfect such as FF7, The Legend of Zelda, GoldenEye, Super Mario Brothers, Mario 64, etc. This last group of games is the group I found that the issue of retroactive game reviews really appeared, where a few are using todays standards to review a game of the past.  I have seen people who just played these games and they complain about how horribly they are:  "The graphics are horrible, how could people like it", "the storyline is predictable", "the game is repetitive".  Thats true about all those facts but if you played a game like Super Mario Brothers 1,2 or 3 when it was new you didn't know storylines could be much more involved, or that graphics could be better.

I don't think its fair to use todays standards on a game of yesteryear because almost none would qualify as a good game; it'd be like judging some of the greatest muscle cars of the 60/70's as being poor cars because the mpg was low, there was no AC in many, no stereo or some only had am/fm, no power steering. View from nowadays standpoints, they would seem dated but viewed from then, they were amazing.  This brings up my annoyance when I see a rating of 6.0 for games that you knew were awesome years ago but someone just tried it and hated it because that 'insert any console' game has horrible blocky graphics by todays standards.  I don't think there's any way to fix this issue but it does both me and I almost wish there was a rating section for "I just tried this game 10+yrs after release date" and their ratings don't affect the games overall user rating. Would you rate Citizen Kane a 1 star because you knew the ending, the resolution sucks, its in black and white the technical effects are old and its not innovative (from todays standpoints, it was then)?  No.  Hopefully you would put those into perspective when watching and rating and it should be done with videogames too.

So many games I've played since I was last here, so little time to cover them all. So I'm just going to say Pokemon Black is awesome and I can't wait for Black 2. That's all for now.

Later.

Black ops is much easier to play less frustating except 2nd chance and mw3 what the hell is the point of death streaks your not suppose to reward ppl for dying you should punish them; idk this is just my opinion but still i feel black ops is a better game and treyarch does a better job than infinity ward simple.

Now that E3 is over and I only have half a million things to do (as opposed to the usual one million) I figured I'd take some time out and write up a little bit about what I've been up to.

Some of you may have seen me lurking around on the forums, or in some of our chat rooms, or even in the occasional group photo, so obviously I'm still working at GameSpot. I've simply transitioned behind the curtain, so to speak.

Though many people probably thought I was an editor, I've never actually been part of that team. I was a site producer--basically the guy who made sure that you all were able to easily find the content the actual edit team produced by setting up promotion for it. I love to play games and I love to write, and thanks to both I was able to contribute to one of my favorite websites, which was literally a dream come true. Since last year, however, I've taken my talents and worked to contribute in a completely different way.

Since last April, I've been a product manager at GameSpot, and my area of focus is content. What that means is that it's my job to help create and improve the user experiences that everyone here from users to editors interact with and enjoy. I manage the production of recurring events such as our annual E3 page, new site feature requests, and more. I also worked on the homepage and site navigation redesign, and am working on tons of more exciting things for the coming year that I can't quite discuss just yet.

To be sure, I miss writing for GameSpot, and I'll always have Alex Navarro to thank for that because he's the one who gave me my first chance. Never did I think that I'd get to review games like Bayonetta and Dead Space or the remakes of two of my favorite games, Final Fantasy IV and Chrono Trigger.

I am still deciding how best to use this blog, but stay tuned. In the meantime, here's a great thing:
