I see people complaining about their work and some times their first jobs

fairly often on the forums here so I thought I would share my first work experience.

just to show that what you are doing might not be so very awful.

my first 'real job' was at a worm farm

when you buy a tub of worms for fishing remember someone picked them out

of the horse or cow manure and counted out 50 to a box.

also you have to make sure not to disturb the worms who are connected by slime

they are 'mating'

Then I advanced to a chicken ranch and moved from handling horse manure to

shoveling chicken crap. what a huge promotion

speaking of jobs Americans are not willing to do

Did anyone else pick tomatos during the summer?

that is back breaking work and the pay is not that good but some times

there isn't much else available.

Farm work has never been a high paying job...did spend half year helping

with chores for a farmer in between real jobs...you get fed and what ever he can pay

but they don't have a lot of cash on hand. The full time hand that lived

on the place would walk to Trowbridge two weekends a month to have a few beers.

THEN I finally got a real job that paid a decent wage as a janitor.

that was my first real job.

I won't say when this all was.

Trowbridge now has about 200 people - at the time there was just one building

The title of the series is the Aggie Arcade.

In my first video I play the beta for Papers Please, an upcoming indie game that puts players in the shoes of an immigration inspector. It's surprisingly fun and I can't wait to try the full game out.

By the way, something I learned while recording this first video: talking into a mic with no one on the other end is weird! Just something to get used to I guess, heh.

Hope you guys enjoy it!

Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning is an amazing action RPG and worth every penny. From superb graphic design to fluid gameplay mechanics, it offers a vast amount of content.

There are tons of sidequests, and much like the Elder Scroll series, there are also a variety of factions which you can join while (or after) you work on the main quest. The premisse is interesting; you start the game "walking from the dead" and soon discover that you are the only person who can actually change his/her Fate. In the world of Amalur, every person, every event is pre-determined to end in a specific manner, and there are even certain people called Fate Weavers who can "read" your Fate, seeing what you are destined to do, how you are supposed to die, and etc. However, you soon start traveling through the world, and people realize your actions are actually affecting and changing the outcome of events that were once, "set in stone." Unfortunately, I believe the storyline fell short throughout the game; I felt like the dialogues and characters involved in the main quest were somewhat superficial and the story lacked depth.

At any rate, this Fate ties down to the very character creation and development process. You have a few basic "Fates", or as the game calls it, "Destinies", which are cards that will power up your character in a specific direction. You will have a card "Rogue", in which you can develop it further by leveling up and unlock the card "Scout", which will grant you more skill points and ability points to spend either on your "Finesse" map or, if you decide to improve the other two areas "Might" or "Sorcery", possibly unlocking different cards such as the hybrid "Disciple", a "mage-rogue" mixture. Overall, the system is very flexible and fun to mess around with; rpg gamers will definitely enjoy leveling up their character and crafting to their needs.

The gameplay is so much fun! My character was primarily a Mage build, and I had spent a lot of points on the Chackram, which I loved using in conjuction with my magic (not to mention juggling enemies around with it.) It's a combat system that made me feel powerful and always rewarding me with tons of loot. There are many options for the 3 main abilities and they provide quite a few combos. Leveling up is not a chore; the combat is very smooth and fast. A few bosses here and there might give a bit more of a challenge, but overal I found the game to be pretty decent in difficulty. There's also a Hard Mode for those wanting a bit more challenge.

The visuals in this RPG are insanely beautiful. I never got bored at looking at the scenery and environments. The dungeons were fresh and different from one another, even if all of them (or better yet, the entire game) is very colorful. Unlike the Elder Scrolls series, which devides each game to a specific region in Tamriel, Amalur provides the entire world at your hands, even if not in the same huge scale of the TES. But to me, the ability to be able to explore all different areas in one game was much more to my liking, because the regions vary so much (be it in the overall feeling or aesthetics that it shows.) I thought the characters were very vivid and lively, and the monsters also varied in shapes and forms a lot, as well as battle manouvers. The art design in the game is trully something to be looked at, and I actually enjoyed seeing the loading screens artwork, so beautiful they were.

On the background of it all, there lies the soundtrack and sound effects. It's all orchestrated, and gives you that "fantasy world" sense of exploration and wonder. The music is soothing when it needs to be, and engaging when it needs to pump me up for an epic battle. It made my travels in Amalur much more enjoyable.

I thought that, for a first game in a series (the next one, set in the same world is supposed to be an MMO), this game is a great achievement for 38 Studios and Big Huge Games. I didn't like their partnership with EA in publishing this game (there is even a game breaking bug unfortunately, but so far no patch has been released. At the same time, EA has already put out 2 DLCs, so why is this not being addressed?), and I hope they don't on their next. Browsing their forums, it's clear that the developers want to do things right, but are impeded by bureaucracy from EA. I also hope that when I they are done with the MMO, they can start working on a single player sequel, maybe with a more indepth main storyline and more dialogue choices. This is a must for any TES fans out there, and for fans of action RPGs in general who love a good combat system experience and loot.

Fri, 23 Mar 2012 09:25:26 -0700 DR-ZMBK writes: So overrated "over-hyped" (3 of 3) http://www.gamespot.com/users/DR-ZMBK/show_blog_entry.php?topic_id=m-100-25977370 Hi everyone,

I wanted to write about this subject last week, but I had so much work to do on my Master's research.

I know that this subject will cause a lot of controversy. Please remember that this is my opinion, you may like and you may not, either way let me know what you think.

There are a few games and franchises, which I think are overrated or over-hyped. I am going to list them alphabetically and will state my reasons as well.

1- Bayonetta: Totally overrated. Weak story, poor graphics, and ugly voice acting. The action in this game is so fast that sometimes I had no idea what was happening on the screen. I didn't like it at all.

2- Brutal Legend: Poor graphics, tedious gameplay, annoying sound track and an unbelievable story. Totally overrated.

3- Call of Duty (franchise): Don't get me wrong, I loved Modern Warfare when it first came out, but since then, every call of duty is the same. The same engine, the same mechanics and even the same plot over and over. What bothers me the most, is that reviewers use COD as a standard for comparison. Every FPS is compared to COD in some way, and every time COD has to win. I am telling you COD is not even that good. Many FPSs were underrated because of it, andthat is wrong. I know the game has a massive multiplayer mode, but that's it. Battlefield and Medal of honor are better franchises in my opinion.

4- Dead Rising (franchise): Poor concept, repetitive gameplay. You kill zombies and save civilians. That's it. Overrated.

5- God of War (franchise): This franchise is so overrated and over-hyped. I know, I know, God of War III was a technical achievement; the graphics, the scale, but that's it. The other games in the franchise are the same, the only difference is the boss encounters. Why would reviewers compare every action game to GOW, I have no clue. Why is it considered as a standard, I have no clue either. In my opinion Castlevania: Lords of Shadow, and Dante's inferno were better than GOW3. Both were compared to GOD3 and then underrated.

6- Prototype: Where do I start? I don't think this game belonged to this generation of consoles. It should have been released on the PS2 and the XBOX. The concept of the game is very good, but it was delivered poorly. Graphics belong to the past generation, gameplay is tedious and confusing. What really bothers me is that inFAMOUS was compared to it in many reviews, while there is a huge difference between both games.

I would like to continue, there are many gmes that I would like to mention but Idon't wantthe blog to be long and boring. If you liked this blog and would like to read more about overrated games, please let me know.

Please remember, this is my opinion. Some of you will agree, many will not. Either way, please let me know what you think and why?

Are there any overrated "over-hyped" games that you would add to this list?

Thank you for reading.

Peace!

I'm still not sure what I'll be doing tonight, but there will be candy involved. Whether I'll be passing it out or eating it at a friend's house has yet to be determined. We bought some candy to pass out, but it turns out everyone else has other plans, and I don't really want to pass out candy alone...in this neighborhood. We didn't even get any decorations, and I have no costume. So, yeah, maybe I'll go to a friend's house.

I finished playing Dead Island a few days ago. The game wasn't very good, it reminded me of Left4Dead. It was fun for a while, but the weapons didn't last long, some of the enemies were rather ridiculously strong, and the story wasn't very great. There didn't really seem to be any reason to do the sidequests, other than for a little experience. I actually completed a mission for one of the people and they never even gave me my reward! But it was fun to hack away at zombies with my machete. Good ol' machete. I would have used the guns more often, but the price for upgrading them was outrageous! And I lost a ton of money by dying so often. Anyway, I plan on playing Red Dead Redemption next, I hear that was a good game.

I've noticed that more often than not, when one of us picks up a new toy, we can't wait to show it off to someone we work with. For that reason, when a Staff Sergeant got bored with his Kinect while waiting for Star Wars to come out, he asked if I wanted to borrow it. I've been eager to get my hands on a Kinect ever since I first heard of Project Natal, but wasn't impressed by the look of such games as Adventures, Kinectanimals, etc. My main thought was, "Man, kind of disappointing," but I can see why this would appeal to kids. However, my Staff Sergeant outranks me, so he convinced me to at least give it a try.

I'm glad he did! The Kinect takes the Wii and pretty much kicks the stuffing out of it. My nine-year-old daughter used to like the Wii until she realized that she had to be at a perfect angle in order to use it. With the Kinect, all she has to do is be near the screen! And the games are way too fun. I've played with the Fun Labs entries Kinect Me and Googly Eyes, animating a couple stuffed toys that the girls have so that I can put on a brief puppet show. And Adventures has been way too addictive! Finally, a game my wife and I can both play that also is extremely active! The final game I've tested is Dance Centralwhich is probably Harmonix's best rhythm entry to date.

I'll share more about these later, but my initial impression is that I have to get my hands on my own Kinect before my Staff Sergeant asks for his back!
