It's story is quite good and unique and in-depth.Basically in it's story you play as a character named Jack who finds a hidden city at the bottom of the ocean, the city's name is Rapture and it's supposed to be a place where science is free to flourish without religion getting in the way and a place free from political oppression.Something disastrous happened in Rapture and now it's infested with creepy-looking and psychotic genetically mutated humans that will attack you on sight and there's very few 'normal' people left and there's a lot more to your character,Rapture and the story than this but I will let you discover it for yourself but the story is quite good.

The atmosphere inside Rapture is incredible,I love how when you walk past glass areas you'll see the ocean surrounding it and it creates an atmospheric blue all around you and Rapture is quite detailed in how it has recreational areas and science areas and even commerical areas so you can imagine people living there.

bioshock-rapture-underwater-city.jpg

BioShock Image

The gunplay is surprisingly satisfying, the aiming mechanics and character movements feel fluid and fast and combine that with a good story and great atmosphere and a bit of psychological horror it makes for a great experience.

If the experience holds up till the end I might pick up Bioshock 2.

I haven't posted my Shadow Hearts Covenant review but I will soon, because I am hoping to get a reviewer of the month award for May(I recieved one for March for my Flower review and one in April for my Another Code R review and hopefully my Shadow Hearts Covenant review or my Bioshock review will be good enough for such an award,I still haven't received an emblem for reviewer of the months even though Gamespot said they would give out emblems for people choosen for reviewer of the month but I understand Gamespot staff are busy right now and probably emotionally distracted since Jody is leaving.

That's all for now.

And I havent been active since then to only post that blog but for the people who are wondering is Kid_Black_Star still alive? Yes I am. A lot of drama and less gaming Im afraid; which was one of the main reasons my progress has come to a temporary halt no females, no gaming, just real life problems that snuck in and cradled me into despair and treachery. So to those wondering Im fine things are getting better. My uncle passed away on Friday May 17, 2013 at 10:30 PM I was the last one to see him before his fight against cancer was a loss cause. He was 49 and the doctors said at his old age and fighting for twenty years it might be the end of what may seem like a second chance. It hurts but it has been the main reason why I havent been blogging or anything. So for your time for reading this I say thank you. But, real life everything is fine. Just been really sad about my Uncle for the past three months.

Terraria-steam-wiki.png.jpg

The game is currently less than a cup of overpriced coffee (3.39) and worth every penny! We'll make a server and dig down to the depths to see if we can enter hard mode!

The deal is only going until 4:00 PM PST today.£

To sweeten the deal if we can get 50 people to sign up and participate in this two part game night I will make us an emblem.

MadElk will be assisting with the server, I will be posting details about how to join later this evening. Unless of course he decides to grace us with his presence and inform us in the comments.£

We'll be using a chatzy room for communication up until the event happens, then we'll be moving to a group steam chat.£

I was there for at least a good 2 hours, they even had God of War playable on other PS3 consoles and of course free doughnuts from Krispy Kreames. And a fun fact is that this week is National Doughnut Week which was even better along with free Sprite and Dr Pepper. I wasn't allowed to take any photos or videos on its gameplay but did take down some notes, in fact the demo was from GameStop so its likely thats where the demo came from to begin there was at least 5 PS3 consoles that had the playable demo up.

Like the Uncharted series you'll get the idea that it borrows some of the gameplay elements likes its 3rd-person gameplay and its button mashing when it comes to lift large objects or encountering certain enemies. If you've been watching The Walking Dead series or played a few stealth games you might get the idea why Naughty Dog wanted to make this game in the first place, you are sneaking around enemies called Infected which are like zombies or walkers whichever one you want to call them. Using the left analog stick to move and the right analog stick to use your torch, circle was to crouch down small areas and sneaking pass enemies, you can use the L2 and R2 to throw objects or throw them at a far away distant because noise can attach their attention.

You can use guns too but your limited to ammo, but you can pick up random items which will be scattered around various places and you can make your own weapons and first-aid kits. Certain objects are quite handy to have like a sharp knife or a plank of wood which is great to sneak around and attacking them from behind, if you hold the R2 button you can listen to their sounds and movements to know where they are heading. The health bar is a little similar to Uncharted which I've just mentioned but if your surrounded by enemies you not going to have a chance to defeat them all and will end up being out numbered and eaten alive.

lastofus.jpg

As always Naughty Dog have always created some of the best games for the Playstation, the graphics for The Last of Us look really impressive to look at in a End of the World type of game in a ruined city. I was curious to know if there would be any Easter Eggs in the full game and I did talk about this to a few people like what if a Precursor Orb was added in from the Jak and Daxter series or if not a movie poster of Uncharted pops up in the city. Or even better a Crash Bandicoot toy in a childs bedroom that would be even funnier, its likely that the demo will soon appear on the Playstation Store sooner or later before the game is released, but it was worth the play and likely be worth the purchase when the full game is released next month.

At the end of the event I've managed to get some free posters one for myself and the other 2 for anyone else-

Hope you've enjoyed reading this blog

Between all of this, finishing up my first college semester, working my part-time job, and all my other daily activities that you probably don't care about, I've been a bit busy. Only now have I truly had the time to blog in the past two weeks (and even now I'm procrastinating about mowing my backyard lawn). Anyway, here's kind of an update:

Recent Purchases/Mini-Reviews

- Bourne Trilogy DVD Collection - Saw the excellent Bourne tirilogy, decided to add it to my library of movies that I own. Overall, the original trilogy is fantastic. It's a smart action thriller that only gets better with every installment. Bourne Legacy is quite good in my opinion, but it doesn't touch the Matt Damon trilogy.

- Lawless blu-ray - Lawless was one of my favorite 2012 movies. The all-star cast did a great job and the story was well told and emotional. For a shocking $6 price, I just had to pick it up.

- The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey - I hate that it was compared to Lord of the Rings. It has an entirely different feel to it for a reason, The Hobbit, to me, has always been more of a light-hearted adventure while LOTR is a dark epic of battles, both physically and emotionally. Picked it up for a decent $12 price.

- Django Unchained steelcase blu-ray - In my opinion, Django Unchained should have won Best Picture at the Academy Awards. It's truly an amazing movie that adds to Tarantino's collection of masterpieces. Its story is carefully told, it's brilliantly acted, it has excellent action; the entire movie is powerful. Christoph Waltz deserves his Oscar, but I think that Leonardo DiCaprio and Samuel L. Jackson did just as good with their roles, if not better. An excellent blu-ray with a badass limited edition steelcase. 5/5

- Kid Cudi - Indicud - Kid Cudi is my favorite artist today. His Man on the Moon albums helped me through a very tough time in my life. I consider them both masterpieces while his WZRD album from last year was altogether decent with a few great songs and a slew of boring songs alongside them. WZRD was pretty good, but it lacked that style that only Kid Cudi has. Indicud brings that back in full force and offers some of his best songs yet. The album shows off his maturity as an artist while having a lot of fun along the way. It's an upbeat album without any radio hits, which I think is perfect. Featured artists such as kendrick Lamar, Michael Bolton (yes, that one), A$ap Rocky, RZA, Too $hort, King Chip, and Haim fit right in and make the album better. If you are a fan of Kid Cudi, it has all you could ask for. 5/5

- Mass Effect Trilogy - I was about two hours away from beating Mass Effect 2 before my PlayStation 3's data crashed last April, leaving me with only save files of games I played four months ago from then. That meant that my Mass Effect 2, Jak Collection, Sly 1 & 2, some Fallout 3, and a lot of Fallout New Vegas were gone. While I was done with Jak & Sly and the Fallout data was easily replayed, losing my Mass Effect 2 data hurt. I refused to start again and sold it. It was certainly one of my favorite PS3 games and I knew that if I were to replay it instantly, it would lose its appeal. When the Mass Effect trilogy was announced, I was already knee deep in some games (AC3, Madden 13, & FC3) and decided to put it on the back burner. Well, now I own the trilogy and I am currently playing Mass Effect 1 for the first time. For $40, it was a great purchase, especially with the awesome packaging.

- Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon - I also finally bought Luigi's Mansion 2 over the weekend. I enjoyed the first game ages ago and my 3DS needed some love. Haven't started it yet.

- Scooby-Doo: Night of 100 Frights - Just when I thought that I was done spending money for a while, I decided to stop at a yard sale on my way home from college (always a great place to find cheap retro games). I came across a PS2 game that I adored a decade ago growing up: Scooby-Doo: Night of 100 Frights. My PS2 still works so I paid $2 for it. I have fond memories of it and figured I'd have some nostalgic fun. I dug up my old PS2 and sure enough, the game works. Didn't play too much, don't know if I will. Some things are better left as memories after all.

- Dragon Ball Z: Lord Slug - Speaking of nostalgia, I'm five seasons and five movies in on collecting and re-watching my childhood's favorite anime series, Dragon Ball Z. Lord Slug is the fourth DBZ movie out of thirteen, and is the second last movie in the five-pack that I bought months back. It's always been my second favorite DBZ movie behind Cooler's Revenge. It has classic DBZ action, a good selection of characters, and Lord Slug makes for a great villain. 4/5

- Ice Age 4: Continental Drift - The Ice Age series has dropped in terms of quality since Ice Age 2: The Meltdown. Ice Age 4 is no exception, it's the worst Ice Age movie yet. There are far too many characters and not enough laughs. The best thing about the first one was the chemistry between Diego, Sid, and Manny. Since then, more characters have been added to a point where the focus is thrown off of them. I found the latest Ice Age boring, off-paced, and just not funny. Not even the Scrat shorts were funny. The animation is well done and the guest stars are somewhat fun, other than that, I hated Ice Age 4 and I can't imagine how a family could find it fun. 2/5

- Argo - I found it entertaining, suspenseful, well made, but also forgettable. Is it good movie that I recommend? Certainly. Is it Best Picture material? No. 4/5

- Zero Dark Thirty - The first third of the movie? Intriguing. The second third? Boring. The final third? Excellent. 4/5

- Iron Man - My favorite movie from the Avengers chronology. RDJ was born to play Tony Stark while the supporting cast of Terrance Howard, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Jeff Bridges is quite excellent. I liked how it was more realistic science fiction than fantasy the first time around. It had a serious tone that was relieved by humor at all the right moments. 5/5

- The Avengers - While the story is generic and filled with plot holes, it's still a fun, exciting blockbuster that made history by combining characters from multiple movies. The writing was good, all of the jokes hit, the action was well done, and the fact that we actually got to see Iron Man, Thor, Captain America, Hulk, Hawkeye, Black Widow, Nick Fury, and Loki in the same awesome movie was surreal. I have issues with The Avengers, but they are all voided by its awesomeness. 5/5

- Iron Man 3 - I enjoyed Iron Man 3 and thought it was really good, but I also thought that it could have been so much better. The action was amazing and the jokes were lol-worthy, but the story, pace, timing, and use of talent were all questionable. I'm not going to spoil anything, but I do wish that the infamous plot twist wasn't so. I also wish that it somehow tied into The Avengers. Don't get me wrong though, it was a total crowd pleaser. 4/5

- Inglorious Basterds - Not Tarantino's best, but it is a very well made movie with strong performances across the stellar cast. 4/5

- L.A. Confidential - Why did it take me this long to watch this masterpiece of a movie?! Loved everything about it. 5/5

- The Campaign - What a missed opportunity. Will Ferrell and Zach Galifianakis (?) star as rivals in an election and this was the best they could come up with? All of the laughs were spoiled in promotion and the ending was oddly feel good. 2/5

- LEGO Harry Potter Years 5-7 - Finally finished up the last year a couple of weeks ago. While I enjoyed Years 1-4 more, Years 5-7 still offers a lot of content that leaves both kids and Potter fans with much to enjoy. As with Years 1-4 though, the story would be impossible to follow along with for people who haven't read the books or watched the movies. The later years' much darker tone also raises some questions as well. Don't expect the series best moment, Snape's Tears, at all. Still, the game is great for kids and Potter fans alike. 8.0/10

- Bioshock Infinite - The combat is fun, the level design is perfect, the environment is interesting to explore, and the story is one of the best that I've experienced in any form of media. Many moments stick out to make it the best game I've played since 2011's Batman: Arkham City. 9.5/10.

- Grand Theft Auto IV - I know I'm not going to be popular by saying this, but I think that GTA IV is the most overrated game of this generation. I didn't really enjoy it (it took me two years to beat, nothing kept me coming back to it). It lacks the fun of the PS2 classics, it has awful controls when not locked on, Liberty City was dull, and the graphics are ugly. There were countless things that pissed me off about it. While I enjoyed the story and voice over work, I just didn't find it any fun. I'm really hoping that GTA V brings the fun back with controls that match its ambitious mission structure. 10/10 Gamespot? Really? 7.0/10

-----------------------------------------------

I pre-ordered Kingdom Hearts 1.5 Remix HD Collection, Beyond: Two Souls, and Grand Theft Auto V as well. Off to play some more Mass Effect, loving it. Thanks for reading and please comment

- Dylan

How it began, GameSpot contacted me to ask if I knew of any competitive£Unreal Tournament gamers for E3 2005. I provided a solid professional gamer and it didn't take long for them to offer a community manager position for the GameCenter service that allowed you to build your own game servers. I've pretty much done everything at GameSpot, from a daily show to stage show assistance but one area I never touched is reviews, and for good reason! (Obviously) new Pokemon. One of them being a martial arts panda bear named Pancham. There has to be some Mythological or Literary story on fighting panda bears, considering prior to this, Ling Xiaoyu has a pet Panda in Tekken, Jack Black has voiced a Panda named Po (with Angelina Jolie, Jackie Chan, David Cross, Lucy Liu, and Seth Rogen voicing as animals based on various kung-fu animal forms, Dustin Hoffman being their master) in Kung Fu Panda, and Blizzard made the Pandarians in World of Warcraft. Now Pokemon is jumping in on this.

Trainer customization. Though what's seen so far looks like nothing more than swapping skin tones and hair colors, it's a start. After playing Pokemon Battle Revolution, I have wondered why Game Freak hasn't adapted to character customizations in their main Pokemon games, considering most playable Pokemon trainers have little to no personality but still allow customizations to your Pokemon team, I think customizing trainers should be there to add more character based on how the Player feels.

Still eagerly seeing how this turns out. Still should get a 3DS so I can play it (preferably an XL for more battery life).

It's sunny outside, there's baseball on the TV and I'm on a laptop trying my best to sum up what fu7ked up set of events landed me here. I'm also reminding myself of how bad I am at creative writing.

I arrived in San Francisco yesterday where I'm staying for about a month to work alongside the US video team in the run-up to E3. Back in 2005 when I used to stay up until midnight to watch On The Spot, I dreamed of another life where I could work in the GameSpot HQ, and be as good at talking about games as the people inside that 640 x 480 frame. I'm not sure if ever really thought it was a possibility. In fact, I'm sure it was just a pipe dream.

Would you employ this man?
Would you employ this man?

I'm sitting here, thinking about the past five years of work to get here, and the only emotion I have to describe this situation is bafflement. I am fu7king baffled that I am sitting here.

I'm baffled that that super-green, idiot kid managed to get this done. I'm baffled that all those people took a risk with me and gave me opportunities. I'm baffled that my fianc£ moved to the UK with me so I could try get a job in the industry, and then allowed me to live in a different country for another two years once I did. I'm baffled that anybody watches my videos at all. That my Irish accent carries, that my opinion of games matters, that my jokes are funny. I'm baffled that my professional heroes, the men and women who inspired me to try this line of work, actually know who the hell I am. And that some of them even like me?!

But the most baffling part is that I'm not even the least bit anxious about tomorrow. I've been waiting years to work with the people inside that building, and sitting here with the baseball on, and the sun outside - it's like some strange version of Christmas Eve. Where on Christmas Day you work like a horse to collaborate with talented people and create amazing videos about video games. I cannot wait.

Before posting this, I just spent a few minutes reading my old blogs and I spotted something. Tomorrow, the first day I walk into that office, is 3 hours shy of being exactly 7 years from my first blog post on GameSpot.

Sites like Polygon and Kotaku are frowning upon the gory aspects of the games combat. Since Infinite released Ive seen a growing amount of people on Twitter complaining about how reliant the game is on you not simply shooting dudes but cooking them alive, unleashing flesh eating ravens, and electrocuting them until their heads blow off. I think a lot of our gaming community is growing war weary of violent games.

At first I snickered at these comments, it seemed to me that is just folks finding something to bitch about for the sake of doing so. For lack of better phrasing, I wanted to sweep this issue under the rug, think everyone is just a giant vagina and move on with my life. Yet after playing through£Tomb Raider£and Bioshock Infinite I find myself crossing the fence. Videogames have a massive creativity issue right now.

Right now I share the same complaints as a lot of you probably have. It doesnt make sense why£Lara£is mowing down dudes by the dozen. I mean, how many of those guys are on that island? Thats what turned me off to the game. Why cant we have engagements against one or two guys but make those engagements more enticing?£Heavy Rain£has the player kill less than a handful of people and those were powerful moments. Im no game developer. I dont know how you solve this issue. I saw an article about Infinite asking why it couldnt just be a puzzle game. However, thats equally stupid. How many times in your life have you opened a door by solving a rubix cube?

2303203-gun.jpgThe Walking Dead's few instances of violence were powerful.

I want the combat to remain but have it be more meaningful. Take£The Walking Dead£for example. That game was fantastic because you werent killing thousands of zombies. Every violent encounter in that game mattered. There was a high level of tension anytime you were thrown into a fight with the undead or even another human because the player never became desensitized to violence. The moments that stuck with me from The Walking Dead were scenes such as£Lee£and£Clementine£bonding or the suicide at the end of the first episode. Thankfully TellTale didnt feel the need to throw in a dumb action scene with Lee getting behind a .50 cal.

The issue seems to be that narrative in games is growing faster than the videogame part.£Columbia£is a fully realized place with a rich back history and breath-taking aesthetics. Infinite sets itself to be a super serious game tackling powerful issues and even being one of the first games to examine religions place in society. I took Infinite very seriously whenever it was time for the plot to develop. Then unfortunately, I walked out a door and into some massive war against me. Its jarring that such a cartoonish level of violence coexists with such serious subject matter. Hysterically the people in the slums opened fire on me for walking too close to their merchandise. The one time the game seemed to break away from fighting, theres an unexplained contrivance forcing the player to engage what are supposed to be allies.

I tolerated it because the combat is fun in Bioshock Infinite and Tomb Raider. Laras bow is one of the most satisfying weapons Ive used in a game in a long time. The juxtaposition of the videogame part doesnt match the maturity of the narrative. This didnt matter with older games because the plot was just an excuse to get into another room full of dudes to murder. But enemies cant be treated like targets anymore. Lara is a struggling survivor and like Booker is merely defending herself. Games are at the point where the plot is the game and thats making the shooting guys element feel dumb.

Dont ditch the combat and make games strictly an interactive story. At that point I might as well get into movies or books. However, the days of facing waves of nameless enemies have to go. Videogames have evolved beyond needing that. Its time to grow up. I still want my mindless Gears of Wars and Call of Dutys but when a developer wants to make a serious commitment to communicating a message or story, they cant follow the path of the mindless shooter.

Perhaps this is just an audience issue. Do people like you and me just want something from games the masses don't? I'm sure there are plenty of folks that bought Bioshock Infinite not giving a rat's ass about the plot, Elizabeth, or even the setting.£Average Joe that shops at GameStop has a specific idea of what a videogame is and doesn't think about what they actually are or can be. But I'm also the kind of guy that paid to see Evil Dead (and loved it) instead of going to the Shakespeare playing downtown.
